The Blue Mountain Tea Company is a specialty shop in Collingwood, Ontario, offering a wide selection of loose-leaf teas, tea accessories, seminars, and custom gift baskets for special occasions and corporate events.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Eye Candy Design?

We needed to rebrand, specifically to freshen up our logo and create new packaging.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Eye Candy Design provided pouch and box packaging design. The objective was to create new gift boxes and a tea subscription product to get the attention of potential customers and keep current customers engaged with The Blue Mountain Tea Company and its products. The long-term goal was to leverage these design assets to strengthen the brand and create/update other products as well.

Eye Candy Design's work included research and strategy work pertaining to the target market and the competitive landscape. They conceptualized and designed two potential global design systems for sampler pouches that could be reused for future packaging. After that, they customized the chosen global design for a pouch and created labels for wellness and premisampler packs.

Eye Candy Design also assisted in the procurement and dimensions finalization of pouches, boxes, and labels. The team provided up to eight revisions for each pouch and label and delivered printer-ready files on the dieline for label and pouch printing.

We found Eye Candy Design through a referral. We liked their portfolio and the fact that they were a one-woman shop specializing in retail food and beverages.

We worked together from September–December 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Eye Candy Design delivered a professional branding kit, a new logo, and new packaging. The new product we launched, which Eye Candy Design was instrumental in designing the packaging for, has recouped the total cost of the design investment in three months of sales. In my opinion, this is directly linked to the look and clever format of the packaging.

How did Eye Candy Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Eye Candy Design delivered on time and kept me on track with tools on a shared drive, with milestones and deliverables highlighted. I can't stress how helpful this has been as I brainstorm three different tracks, and they can focus me back on the task at hand and work with me to re-prioritize as needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Eye Candy Design listened but wasn't just an order taker, which is what I needed. They brought their subject matter expertise to the table, which gave me the confidence to go along with some things that I was initially resistant to and which I'm ultimately happy with. That doesn't mean they don't take my feedback and incorporate it, but they hold the space to have back and forth with the goal of getting a package that is fresh and eye-catching. Their strong project management skills were terrific for keeping me back to the goal at hand vs. deviating down different paths.
