Materials were sent to us on an ongoing basis for approval. If there was no acceptance, they were returned for improvement. Until a satisfactory final result was achieved.

It provides collection, transport and recycling of waste electrical equipment, batteries and packaging, including financing of the entire system.

We started with a workshop. Then we received the first draft of the script, which we were pleased with. The next stage was storyboarding. We saw first drafts of the pictures. In the end we received the animation.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

The animation is used on YouTube, so it had to be short and engaging from the very first few seconds.

ExplainVisually conducted a workshop with us during which they gathered all the information needed to make our video. Then we received the first version of the script. We did not have any feedback, we were happy with the outcome. So we proceeded to the storyboard. After accepting it the company sent us a ready to use animation just a few days later.

We were assigned a project coordinator who helped us during each step of the production process. We also worked with a script-writer.

We started with filling out a brief. We sent a lot of documents and photos to the company. Based on that they created a script. We had a few meetings and video-calls to get the script and the concept to where we wanted it to be. Then we received a storyboad – we also had a few revision rounds. And next we received the final product.

We worked with a few people. Also a few people from our company were engaged in the project.

I was, at the time of the project, Senior Curriculum Designer at Lead for Impact, a social enterprise that provides transformational leadership services and training to individuals, communities, and organizations.

Lead for Impact hired ExplainVisually for design and preparation of graphics for our workbooks supporting a humanitarian leadership training for UNICEF. The graphics were aimed to illustrate complex processes described in a written form and support participants’ knowledge retention.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I was familiar with the work of ExplainVisually, as I have previously participated in a workshop organized by its founder, Klaudia Tolman. Upon consulting our project with the ExplainVisually team, we were certain that they understand our ideas and vision, and even go beyond them in terms of creativity and potential visual metaphors. The deciding factors were clear, fast and respectful communication, availability, aligned vision, and fair cost evaluation.

Upon initial outreach and introductory conversation, we were provided with a template form with very detailed questions about every possible aspect of the graphics, that clarified our goals and vision to the ExplainVisually team. After submitting the template form, we heard back from the point of contact alongside with the artist, whose style best fitted our type of project. The next stages included drafting and consultation, and final versions and approval, as well as invoicing and payment. The graphics presented several aspects of the training related to complexity theories, negotiation and conflict in fun and easy-to-remember form, using common objects, people and life situations, yet ensuring a clear metaphorical understanding of even the most complicated concepts.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We worked with the Project Coordinator and one of the artists that ExplainVisually has in their team. The initial drafts were posted in Mural, and we could give feedback and see changes made in real time, and we were always notified upon completion of the graphics. The feedback process was smooth and clear, as good as it could be, with mutual understanding and open-mindedness.

The participants of the workshop were highly impressed with the workbooks and visual representations of the difficult concepts discussed during the training. They confirmed it supported their understanding and the learning process.

The project coordinator was easy to communicate with, provided us with all necessary information, was very responsive and proactive, consulted us about any possible changes and adjustments, clarified the timeline and never went past any deadline, frequently being ready some days before.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The company has a very individual approach, which makes the client feel seen, understood, and cared for. The team members that we worked with never rushed anything, took their time to listen to us and get a deep understanding. It feels like a family, value-based company, where everyone knows each other well, and approaches other team members and clients with great respect.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

To be honest, I haven’t noticed any potential areas for improvement, everything went really well and I can only speak positively of our experience with ExplainVisually.
