The Czech Telecommunications Authority was established by the Electronic Communications Act on 1 May 2005 as a central administrative office for the performance of state administration in matters stipulated by law, including market regulation and setting conditions for doing business in the field of electronic communications and postal services. The Office is the legal successor of the Czech Telecommunications Office, which was established as an independent administrative office by the Telecommunications Act on July 1, 2000. The Office is headquartered in Prague. The departments for South Bohemia, West Bohemia, North Bohemia, East Bohemia, South Moravia, and North Moravia are located outside Prague as dislocated workplaces. One of the members of the Council is the chairman of the Council. The members of the Council and its chairman are appointed and dismissed by the government on the proposal of the Minister of Industry and Trade. The term of office of Council members is five years. One member of the Council is appointed each year. A member of the Council is appointed to the position of Chairman of the Council for the remainder of his membership in the Council, but for a maximum period of three years.
