Products developed by us selected in Y-Combinator

For most of the entrepreneurs, technology is an integral part of their startup, but it is not their core area of expertise. Building and managing a tech team is cumbersome, and founders usually end up wasting a lot of time, effort and money.

This is where EngineerBabu comes into the picture.

We are specialized in building MVP (minimum viable product) for startups. Almost 80% of our clients are entrepreneurs who have a rough idea, need fast execution at lower cost and need a quality team which is approachable.

They come to us with an idea, and we help them build their tech infrastructure. In short, we are a startup made to help other startups.

1. Hiring right candidate, it's three-month-long process (Interviews - Filtering - Selection - Notice Period - Joining - Training )

2. Managing Team is a complicated job, for Non-tech founders, it's even harder. Most of the people ended up hiring the wrong team.

3. Fixed Infrastructure cost ( Systems, Rent, Internet etc.). With time, systems become outdated and infra requires maintenance.

4. Hiring full-time team in the USA and Hiring a team in India with same experience has approx. 70% price difference.

5. Monthly fixed salaries ( People were getting appraisal based on months experience rather than enhancement in skills)

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder of AJA Trading & General Services. We provide smart system services. One of the systems we have is a delivery application for home services. We’re now working on a new application for taxi passenger transportation.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with EngineerBabu?

We needed a company to develop a home services mobile application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our home services iOS and Android app. I provided them with everything, including the scope of work and logo we had created. We then started working together on design, where they provided us with multiple options to choose from based on our requirement. In the end, they delivered two apps for iOS and two for Android: A user app and a provider app.

The application currently has 43 different home services it delivers. Users select a service and a time and then confirm the appointment. The application isn’t only to book a service, however. On the provider side, the application will receive notifications and they can accept the order. The provider will develop the service and the customer will get a bill for that amount.

What is the team composition?

There are three people I interact with. I don’t know how many other people are involved, however.

How did you come to work with EngineerBabu?

I found them through online research. We did an analysis on several companies and found that EngineerBabu would add the most value based on our scope of work.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $13,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since August 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app was launched in less than four months, and then they made more updates. They’re now working on the third version, including changes based on market realities. There have been no issues from the user side, provider side, or our admin controls. Whatever issues occur, EngineerBabu takes immediate action and helps us. We are satisfied with the service they provide. We just signed on for another year of maintenance.

How did EngineerBabu perform from a project management standpoint?

The first project manager left the company, but the replacements deal with us in a very professional way. They offer multi-communication channels in case of an emergency, and we can reach out to them at any time. I’m satisfied with their people.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The communication is good. I receive phone calls from the co-founder who gave me his direct contact. This gives me more confidence to continue dealing with this company.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The quality could improve just a little.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure they understand the scope of work completely before you start the job.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the co-founder of 9to5.ai, an employee and candidate matching platform.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with EngineerBabu?

We reached out to EngineerBabu to develop our platform, including the backend and frontend, using the designs provided by another firm.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Using our designs, EngineerBabu developed a platform from scratch. Initially, they took a month to gather requirements, collaborating closely with our team. Then, they moved into the development phase, which took about four months, using Apache to build out the backend and Node.js on the frontend.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a project manager and two developers.

How did you come to work with EngineerBabu?

I believe my business partner had met with them and introduced them to me from there.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested about $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from around December 2018–April 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They did a great job of accurately implementing the designs we provided. Our customers have all been very happy with the platform's functionality and user-friendliness thus far.

How did EngineerBabu perform from a project management standpoint?

We held weekly meetings to go over the progress of development throughout the project, and they shared their screens with us to give us visual examples. While I'm satisfied with the way they managed the project for the most part, I would've appreciated a little more detail in the progress reports they provided regarding what had been completed at that point.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very professional and accommodating, incorporating any changes I requested outside of the scope of work. Unlike other vendors, they didn't make a big deal about change requests or require additional payment.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a little more transparent when it comes to guiding teams lacking knowledge in development projects. We had to ask them to clarify certain things or give us more detailed updates on a few occasions. It would've helped to have more information outside of our weekly status meetings.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They're very professional, timely, and easy to talk to, so keep and open mind and provide a complete scope of work if possible.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the founder of the Buddy application.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire EngineerBabu?

We needed resources to develop a travel app for iOS and Android.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal was to create an app that would benefit all travelers who are fond of exploring new places.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

After proposing our idea to EngineerBabu, we discussed the app with the technical team, and they gave us a quote. We then presented them with a demo and development plan, which their project manager used to establish regular milestones. Once we tested their technical competency, we felt confident that their skills aligned with our needs.

Describe the project in detail.

EngineerBabu developed an iOS/Android app that allows customers to learn more about travel destinations and connect with local guides called buddies.

The app features two modules: a customer side and a buddy side. After registering, customers can view a detailed list of available buddies on the home screen. They can then select a buddy, exchange information, and interact with them (e.g., chat, photo, video).

Buddies must also sign up to act as local guides. They submit their personal details and payment information through the app for an admin to approve. Once they join the buddy network, they’re free to accept or deny guide requests from customers.

Other functionalities include voice messaging, document sharing, and location sharing. EngineerBabu also integrated a payment system along with a rating system so that customers could rate each buddy.

What was the team composition?

They assigned a project manager, two full-stack developers, a tester, an Android/iOS developer, and a database administrator.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

EngineerBabu completed the app with great expertise, and everything is running well. Our product helps people learn about different cities by allowing users to quickly find local guides.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was most impressed by their input and fast replies. Their technical team is hardworking, and they suggested ways to improve our project model to make it more efficient.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the co-founder of Achumen Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a business and technology solution provider. We also develop web-based apps for our clients.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire EngineerBabu?

We needed EngineerBabu to develop a hybrid app. We were market testing a wine industry product called Snozzle.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to launch an app that was compatible with Android and iOS platforms.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

After researching a few mobile app developers, we chose EngineerBabu for the project.

Describe the project in detail.

EngineerBabu developed the hybrid app to have multiple functions, including a wine sommelier’s vocabulary list and the ability to generate a wine profile report. They built a share feature into the platform, as well. After creating the app, they spent one month testing its performance.

What was the team composition?

They provided a business analyst, project manager, web developer, QA analyst, two senior Android developers, and two senior iOS developers.

The market feedback reflects the high-quality of EngineerBabu's work. The final product exceeded what we originally envisioned. We were pleased with the collaboration.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They were available whenever we needed. The business analyst coordinated the development, and their project manager took over in the later stages. The management transitioned seamlessly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They managed our expectations and delivered more than they promised. Additionally, their team was humble and respectful.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I can’t think of any improvements—they’re a great, young team that will learn as they grow.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and founder of Showground. We're a music event discovery application. Our software allows users to browse festivals through an approach that’s not possible on similar apps. The platform also contains tools to help streamline the booking process for artists and venues.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with EngineerBabu?

As the company founder, I started with an idea and some drawings. I needed a qualified development firm to build the app from the ground up.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

EngineerBabu led the app development process every step of the way. Their designers created the software’s frontend interface based on the wireframes I provided. Then, the developers handled all the technical requirements. That included understanding our needs and recommending a framework that could deliver. They built the native application for iOS and Android using Swift and Java, respectively. The backend was built using CodeIgniter and a PHP framework. They helped develop that app’s landing page to coincide with the platform’s launch.

Despite the platform only being an MVP at the moment, they programmed a feature that lets users log in to our software from Facebook, Spotify, or Google. The apps current build is designed for users in the Seattle area that want information regarding upcoming live music events. EngineerBabu implemented GPS features within the app to create an experience tailored toward our specific market. Once the app gets more users and traction, we’ll likely be working together full-time. The platform will need a lot of support in the future.

What is the team composition?

I interacted with the CEO, a director, a project manager, the lead software developer, and a designer. They assigned additional resources as needed.

How did you come to work with EngineerBabu?

While I have a background in managing engineers, my experience doesn’t include software development. So, I considered taking a programming boot camp to get my project off the ground. My research led me to one of EngineerBabu’s blogs. It seemed like they had the resources available to help me, so I contacted them. Our relationship evolved from there.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $47,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The majority of their involvement with us took place from May–October 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve only been live on The App Store for a month, so it’s too early for accurate metrics. I’m working on using the app to build up its database of artists, but it’s a bad time of the year for shows due to all the holidays. Thus far, people have reacted positively to app’s visual design and fluidity.

How did EngineerBabu perform from a project management standpoint?

They use Mantis Bug Tracker to document coding issues and assign QA resources. If anything crashes the app, it immediately reports the problem back to EngineerBabu. Most of the bugs I’ve noticed are a result of trying new approaches and working through potential iterations. The approval process took some time to optimize, but we figured out the best way to handle everything.

Overall, the project manager did a great come keeping the process organized. The whole team was easy to get ahold of and open to collaboration. We used Basecamp to track assignments, but I’d mainly communicate with them via Skype, WhatsApp, or email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate EngineerBabu’s competitive pricing. Considering the design quality they delivered, I can’t believe what I received for the price I paid. They’re a valuable resource, so I hope to continue leveraging them in the future.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At the moment, I can’t say for sure that everything was properly documented. However, I plan to review that with them soon. However, they’re staying involved with the platform, so I’m not worried about a subsequent project handoff.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure to understand the project’s requirements and communicate that to EngineeringBabu. Open lines of communication are especially important when not working with a team side-by-side. To that end, I recommend asking for updates frequently to ensure that miscommunications are kept to a minimum.
