I’m the CTO of 49 mining, analytics & consulting. We’re in the business of sports analytics. Specifically, we offer various software solutions to professional ice hockey organizations and federations, mainly in Europe.

We needed help with some of our processes so we could better our services.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Together with eidos.ai, we worked on a project plan to improve our data collection and entry software and did an initial review of our current work. We then moved on to the first sprint. We’re currently in the middle of the project and plan to work on a few more sprints.

My primary contact is the technical lead, but I also work with the CEO and two developers.

How did you come to work with eidos.ai?

We discovered their profile on Upwork, which showed their experience in sports, algorithms, and similar areas relevant to our project. That was what initially drew us to them. 

We then found their articles on Medium, where they described how they work, gave some insights on their abilities, and even shared some code on GitHub. This was what made us confident that they would be the right partner.

We started working together in January 2021, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’m delighted with our working relationship. This project is quite a difficult challenge that might not get clear results. I didn’t expect them to work on their own and provide a solution after a few months. It’s a collaborative journey — with each iteration, we determine the next best step and how we can improve the pipeline we’re working on. Sometimes we go in the wrong direction, but they’ve been doing an outstanding job overall. 

How did eidos.ai perform from a project management standpoint?

We work using a Scrum-based approach where we break the project down into sprints, and for each iteration, we define the goals together. In terms of communication, they’re very well versed. They present what they’re working on and are transparent regarding the time it took to complete tasks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They work efficiently. The project’s been going well, thanks to eidos.ai.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything they could improve.

Have a good understanding of your goals, set clear guidelines and objectives about the project, and maintain open and transparent communication. Additionally, don’t just rely on their judgment or recommendations.

I'm the CEO, Crezer is an Uruguayan company that integrates ICT solutions, in particular Operations Networks and Electronic Security.

For what projects/services did your company hire eidos.ai?

Some of our security cameras we installed for a client were having trouble with false-alarms due to wild animals. The previous movement detector (Without AI) sent an alarm when anything moved, 99% of the cases were animals instead of intruders.

What were your goals for this project?

So our goal hiring eidos.ai was to create a A.I system that will only detect human movement.

SOLUTION

How did you select eidos.ai?

They are also based on Montevideo and we have a connection in common that facilitated the output of the decision.

Describe the project in detail.

We gave them a representative series of some days of recording of the cameras and they presented us with 3 alternatives for analysis with different algorithms. We chose the most appropriate analysis, that did not miss real alarms and that filtered as many false alarms as possible (no humans detected). And the results were validated with more offline recordings.

What was the team composition?

They were 3, Marcelo as the chief engineer, Gonzalo as the project manager and Enzo the developer.

We’ve engaged them for development services for our product.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Early in the project, we met to provide them with situational awareness. After they had a foundational understanding of the product and our goals, they began development. They used OpenPose, Python, and C#. The work they created had a Unity wrapper. Their initial team didn’t have a ton of experience with Unity, so they hired a few Unity expert resources.

Our first project used 2–3 of their resources. The next few projects relied on 3–4 of their teammates.

I found them on Upwork.

To date, we’ve spent just under $20,000.

Our first project began in August 2020. We have an ongoing relationship.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m happy with their work. After conducting code reviews, the quality of their code has been great. We still need to bring a few things together in terms of hardware and software. We’ll see how everything ends up working together, but the simulations and demos are looking great so far.  

How did eidos.ai perform from a project management standpoint?

We had regular standups, and their communication and English skills were excellent. Whenever we had issues, we communicated quickly over Slack. They were great about raising any issues or concerns that we would discuss in detail in our calls together. 

I asked for weekly demos of their work, which they provided without issue. They’re great at managing themselves and working with executives. I’ve been happy with their ability to discuss both the high-level details as well as code specifics in our work together.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re exceptional problem-solvers. Our project is a bit different than other solutions I’ve seen, and they’re also working with bleeding-edge technology. They’ve been great about working through problems using the very latest technology.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could hire more people to scale and take on larger projects.

Have your requirements nailed down at the start of the project. With nearshore teams, a clear requirements document is especially important.

Please describe your company and your position there.

Learning Sign Language, or “ALdeS”, is a project created in order to support and popularize a language as important as sign language in our country and in the world. For this purpose, we integrate technology into teaching and use the tools that are available to us today, in order to achieve a greater inclusion of people with hearing impairment in their environment.

It is vitally important that people with hearing disabilities can communicate like any other, and although it is a process that has advanced on a large scale in recent years, our intention is to spread the teaching of sign language through the use of Virtual technology in an innovative way: using the webcam of a laptop or desktop PC and using motion detection, the student will be able to interact with the videos presented in the online course.

For what projects/services did your company hire eidos.ai, and what were your goals?

Course objective: First of all, we must be aware of the importance that sign language should have in our country, since its scope is not considered only for people with hearing impairments, who are around 30,000 in Uruguay, but rather for everyone around you.

This would improve the relationship both in personal, work, commercial, etc. The general objective of our proposal is to facilitate the acquisition of the vocabulary and the necessary skills to be able to carry out a communication in LSE in the educational, social and work environment, with the use of technology as a key factor in this purpose.

Specific objectives:

• Introduce a new teaching tool in sign language. This tool can be complementary to the traditional courses that currently exist in different institutes.
• Facilitate the acquisition of sufficient and necessary knowledge in communication in sign language to maintain basic conversations with their families, friends, work or in any situation of daily life.
• Develop motor skills of the hands and facial and body expression.

Eidos is a very renowned company in the field of artificial intelligence in our country and that is why we decided to contact them so that they would be in charge of the development of the platform with everything related to this issue and the detection and processing of movements

The results were excellent and we look forward to working with EIDOS for the remainder of the process.

Fly-Fut is a Spanish company that records soccer games using drone technology. We edit the footage and add audio commentary, and we offer it through an app. We charge customers through a content-as-a-service model, through monthly and yearly subscriptions. I’m a chief product officer in the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Eidos.ai Machine Learning?

We implemented a machine learning model to pre-identify the events of a game so that video editors wouldn’t have to watch them in their entirety.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Eidos.ai developed the whole thing. We have an external machine learning consultant that helps us understand what Eidos.ai is doing. They developed the entire model and took care of testing and deployment.

The machine learning model preselects 30–50 relevant events in a game, such as goals and saves, and puts them in a list, so that the editors only have to watch the events selected by the machine.

What is the team composition?

We started with three people on Eidos’s side, and I believe they’ve hired two more. Gonzalo (Co-Founder) is the project director on their side, Marcelo (Co-Founder) is the senior machine learning specialist, and they have a junior machine learning specialist.

How did you come to work with Eidos.ai Machine Learning?

We found them via Upwork. We talked to multiple people, and we chose Eidos because they’re Spanish speakers, which was a big plus. Also, they’re based in Uruguay, and people there love football. They understood what the problems were going to be, and they made some proposals proactively. They proposed things that had relevance and made sense.

How much have you invested with them?

I had control over the budget during the MVP phase, but it’s gone over to our CTO now. I believe the total cost is in the neighborhood of $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Eidos.ai in February 2020, and the work is ongoing. We’re working with them on automating an entirely different process now. We’ve tackled the highlights part with great results, and we’re tackling the editing of full matches now. We want to make sure that people aren’t cutting the relevant parts of the matches.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve improved the efficiency of the video editing process fivefold. People are taking one fifth as much time to edit videos as they used to. We cut the relevant game pieces into 50-minute videos, and we also provide highlights of the main events.

How did Eidos.ai Machine Learning perform from a project management standpoint?

We talk over Slack when something comes up, and we have weekly checkups. We close sprints every two weeks. Eidos is extremely helpful from a project management standpoint, and they document everything they do. We have our own wiki, and the code is commented perfectly. They track everything they do, and they’re proactive in proposing things.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They don’t have a big data specialist, and we’re facing a challenge with scale now because we’re recording around 2,500 games per month. We’ve just recently hired a cloud architect certified by Google, and he told us that what Eidos was proposing didn’t make sense from an architectural standpoint. Obviously, that had a very big impact on the budget we needed to allocate. Not having a big data specialist might be a problem from a scaling standpoint, but Eidos is very good on the math and machine learning side.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients should set clear KPIs. People from Uruguay and Argentina are famous in Spain for talking a bit too much, and they can derail conversations. We’ve had to rail Eidos’s team to the key points of the conversation at times.

I'm the CTO of Glossy Finish, a youth sports photography company that partners with national organizations to capture memorable moments and enhance event experiences for athletes and their families.

What challenge were you trying to address with eidos.ai?

We needed help with bulk analyzing sports photos for tagging and sorting.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

eidos.ai has developed a proprietary AI inference service capable of analyzing hundreds of thousands of images at scale. Their solution automatically identifies, tags, and groups photos to streamline our internal workflow and significantly improve the customer experience by making it easier for users to find photos of their player.

eidos.ai has delivered a standalone AI inference service exposed through an API. This includes a model-serving API that accepts photo uploads and returns structured metadata, a scalable processing pipeline designed to handle thousands of photos efficiently, and integration support so our platform can reliably send images to the service and conse the returned metadata.

We found them on Upwork. We chose them because of their high ratings and experience in sports photo and video.

What is the status of this engagement?

The initial projects started in October 2023. While the main project was completed in six months, we continue to work with eidos.ai to add features and better the customer experience.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

eidos.ai’s solution has noticeably improved both the accuracy and speed of our photo processing workflow. Since implementing it, we’ve also seen a significant reduction in customer inquiries and complaints about finding their player’s photos or having to sort through large volumes of images.

eidos.ai's project management is great. The team is very communicative and easy to talk with. They've delivered each milestone on time. We communicate via virtual meetings and Slack.
