BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the SVP of product for an analytics firm. We focus on software that delivers analytics for retail, healthcare, restaurants, and hospitality. We help our clients with several business optimization questions, including site optimization and strategic growth planning in terms of market layout.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Dialexa?

We’re a fast-growing company, and we had reached an inflection point from a technological perspective where we hit the limit of our internal expertise and knowledge regarding how to grow to the next level. We wanted to evolve our platform from a UX perspective and a performance and scalability perspective. We hired Dialexa for counsel to help us develop a strategic roadmap for evolving to that next level.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We engaged with Dialexa on several occasions, the largest of which was the strategic consulting engagement. They also assisted us with outsourcing development. We went through exercises with them that included capability mapping to identify our platform capabilities at the time. We then conducted a future state exercise where we brainstormed and painted the vision for our future platform capabilities and merged that into the capabilities map. 

The third phase of the engagement was gap planning, where we looked at the future state and compared it to the current state; we determined all of the elements that would need to happen to reach that future state. During this part of the engagement, we also defined the future state architecture and developed an architectural capability map. 

We went through product disposition exercises where we graded ourselves on our current capabilities and how well we thought we could accomplish some of our future capabilities. We took all of these findings and went through specific use case scenarios that we wanted our users to be able to accomplish. These exercises fed into an ultimate roadmap plan that we defined together for building the future state. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with about eight individuals on the strategic exercise side, including several senior strategy advisors, a lead designer, engagement managers, experts in operational go-to-market strategy, and technical and development strategists. On the outsourcing development side, we worked with front- and backend senior and mid-level developers. 

How did you come to work with Dialexa?

Dialexa was a company we were familiar with in the local market from B2B articles. We had several pre-engagement sessions to determine if they could help guide us. We thought they had the appropriate expertise to help us and decided to move forward. 

How much have you invested with them?

We invested around $2 million with Dialexa. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them between February–August 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The best metric is that the vision we helped paint together has fundamentally shifted our organization's philosophy towards development and our leadership's understanding of our vision and where we’re going. It was a wonderful investment that we made to move forward. 

How did Dialexa perform from a project management standpoint?

They were top-notch in their project management; we were highly impressed with how they organized their teams and how responsive they were. We worked with an engagement manager who was connected to our systems, and they were very professional and worked as a part of our team. Dialexa was prompt and ensured everything was on time. 

We communicated through Microsoft Teams, email, phone calls, and in-person meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of talent that they have is very high and separates them from the competition. Their employees are top-notch experts all the way around. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We wish they had a little bit more of a sense of the culture of our organization; we went through a lot of activities to get to know each other, and we didn’t always feel like that was necessary for our organization.
