Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

We needed a fully local AI inference layer running across a cluster of Mac minis — no cloud, no external APIs. Fordel Studios scoped and built the core system: autodiscovery of nodes, automatic model selection based on each device's available CPU and memory, and installation via a HuggingFace pipeline. Key deliverables included a smart router that distributes inference tasks across nodes, model benchmarking (tokens/sec + evals) to pick the best fit per task type — coding, classification, content generation — and support for chaining models in sequence. They also built out the observability layer for logging and tracing, cluster self-healing with auto-restarts, and a model upgrade path so we can swap in newer versions without downtime.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The system runs across a 12-node Mac mini cluster with full autodiscovery and self-healing, no manual restarts since deployment. Local inference consistently outperforms cloud API response times, eliminating external API dependency entirely. The router correctly routes tasks by type (coding, classification, content generation) across nodes, and the model upgrade path has been exercised successfully with newer model versions.
