We needed help with web development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

CODOTDEV designed and developed a website for us. They handled both the front- and backend development and created a mobile-friendly version.

We worked with the founder, two frontend developers, and one backend developer.

How did you come to work with CODOTDEV?

We came across their founder on LinkedIn and reached out to him. We had several in-depth discussions and found CODOTDEV to be highly qualified.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $40,000–$50,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The engagement lasted from February–July 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The CODOTDEV surpassed our expectations. Although it’s too early to give metrics, their work definitely set us up for success. 

How did CODOTDEV perform from a project management standpoint?

It took a bit more time than we anticipated, but that wasn’t really a problem. In the end, CODOTDEV added so much more value to our initial plans. Furthermore, the team was very transparent and included us in every step — I always knew what each teammate was working on at any given time. Working with them was very easy. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They had an incredible work ethic and produced great results at a cost-effective price.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve provided a more accurate timeline. Other than that, the team did a fantastic job. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I highly recommend them. If you have a similar project, they’ll be a perfect fit.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re a custom software consultancy. We typically deal in rebuild projects, sometimes taking over from other dev shops with clients who are unhappy with the services.

I’m the lead architect in the company, and since we’re a small firm, I also act as lead engineer on client projects.

What challenge were you trying to address with CODOTDEV?

We needed to build a mobile app, and we didn’t have the capacity in-house.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

CODOTDEV developed an iOS and Android mobile app for us. We had designs drawn up by the client at the point of engaging CODOTDEV. They quickly gave us a rough scope on what it would take to build it, followed by a quote.

The language used was React Native. The project itself was to build an agtech IoT app. It interacted with our API, which took care of the whole automation portion. The mobile app is the primary means of interaction with the system. Without that, it simply wouldn’t work.

CODOTDEV implemented a map view through which a farmer can see the current irrigation state on all of their farms. This kind of system is tough to manage, so presenting it easier to view format was quite the challenge.

What is the team composition?

There was one primary point of contact from CODOTDEV that I know of. I believe he’s one of their lead developers.

How did you come to work with CODOTDEV?

I worked with Andrew (CEO) before he found CODOTDEV, so I knew his general technical capabilities and work style.

I enjoyed working with him on that project, so I decided to try it again. We might have considered other companies, and we have used others for mobile app development, but I’ve generally liked using CODOTDEV, and I’ll continue to go back to them.

How much have you invested with them?

There have been several iterations, and I believe the cost across all of them is $40,000–$60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project ran between April 2019–July 2020. The range covers several iterations and additional chunks of features. There would be a 4–6-month buildout of the initial software, a small break, and another 4–6-month development cycle, and so on.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have hard metrics. Mainly, the way it works is to create a bunch of user stories and confirm that all of them work.

Our client is a farmer with 30 years of heavy irrigation experience, so he knew what he wanted. We got detailed user stories on what the app needed to do in each situation, and we walked through those. Our internal testing was approved beforehand, and the client was thrilled with the app when we presented it.

How did CODOTDEV perform from a project management standpoint?

My favorite part of working with CODOTDEV is that we don’t have to tightly manage them in the way we do with other companies. We gave them a task with an end date for delivering it to the client, and we let them run with it to see how they’d do.

After a month of working with them, we would’ve adjusted if we needed to and put in more in-depth project management, but CODOTDEV did great in managing timelines and internal features. I didn’t have to hold their hands at all. We gave them an end date, and they delivered.

There was one time when they didn’t hit it, but Andrew communicated to me early on that there would be a problem and for what reason. The communication was the most important part there, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s their ability to handle the work internally. I can treat them hands-off and just detail what they need to get done and by what time. I can reasonably expect them actually to meet those criteria.

I don’t have to have daily or even weekly check-ins with them. They reach out to us proactively if they run into any blockers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Them going through a bit more internal QA before bringing something back to us would’ve been helpful in some situations. I’m not talking about unit or code testing, but just using the product a bit more. We would try it and find something that needed to be fixed, and go back to them with the situation, in terms of “click here, do this.”

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Coming into a project with predefined designs and a clear idea of what needs to be built was beneficial. It made it easy to communicate exactly what we needed from CODOTDEV, and there was little uncertainty around it. This is true for working with dev shops, in general.

CAN Mobilities is a mobility aid company. We build hardware devices and work with a wide range of technologies, including embedded, cloud, and web systems. I’m the CTO of the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with CODOTDEV?

We were trying to set up a new web platform for our users. We had a design in place, but we needed someone that could provide React development, especially on the frontend.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

CODOTDEV developed the frontend of our app in React. We started with a review of what we had, and CODOTDEV laid out the steps they wanted to take. They took the product from an internal MVP to a scalable React app.

We provide services to seniors, and this platform was designed to be a place where people could request services online. They can also submit payment, delivery, and other information.

What is the team composition?

I interacted with two developers and one project manager from CODOTDEV.

How did you come to work with CODOTDEV?

We were specifically looking for React development talent, and CODOTDEV excels in this niche. I found one of their principals on a developer platform. 

How much have you invested with them?

The project cost is close to $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with CODOTDEV in mid-July 2020, and we’re almost done.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve gotten ongoing deliverables. Everything is in a code repository, where CODOTDEV logs everything they do during the day. They’re using all the best practices, and everything is professionally done. I like their work.

How did CODOTDEV perform from a project management standpoint?

They did better than I expected. They’re professional and fast, and the communication is perfect. We have three weekly meetings, and we have a Slack channel where we bounce ideas and questions back and forth.

They’ve given me what I needed in terms of talent, speed, and technology stack, but they’re also in the same time zone. That was really helpful.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their focus in terms of the technology stack is amazing. In addition, being in the time zone made the collaboration easy.

I don’t have anything in mind.

Make sure your requirements are clear at the beginning of the process.
