Nicole Rice grew up on the Navesink River in New Jersey and has always loved the calm, laid-back feeling of being near the water. As a young girl, she took art classes, drew, painted, and rearranged her room. After leaving the art program at Monmouth University, she was asked to work at her mother’s marine construction company. Originally recruited to work in the office, she quickly moved to a barge, building docks and bulkheads. After gaining some life experience, Nicole decided to return to school for interior design—the perfect way to combine her love and knowledge of art and construction. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kean University, Nicole moved to California and became a model home designer. She worked exclusively with national home builders, designing show homes for master-planned developments. The homes she designed served as life-sized displays that helped prospective buyers visualize the floor plans, upgrades, and amenities available for their new homes. In 2008, Nicole moved back to New Jersey and opened Coastal Décor & Interior Design, a lifestyle shoppe and design studio. This allowed her to work directly with clients, ensuring that each home feels welcoming, well-layered, and reflective of the client’s lifestyle and interests while creating a casual yet refined atmosphere. With a wide range of experience, Nicole believes the design process should be fun - whether you are building a new home, adding an addition, or updating a room. Good design is about the client and their vision; it is Nicole’s job to make that vision a reality.
