I’m the head of operations at Clutch.co, a B2B ratings and reviews company. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Buch Construction?

Our company had just moved into a new office with about 23,000 square feet of space. We needed to update the space and turn our architectural designs into real life while ensuring that everything installed is up to code.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Buch Construction has received approved designs from a third-party architecture firm, and they’re building out all of the work, including electrical updates, millwork, flooring, and new carpeting.

Phase one of the project focused on essential updates such as carpet, paint, and new floors so that our team could move in and function in the space. Phase two will involve more extensive demolition and construction work.

What is the team composition?

During phase one, I interacted with the site supervisor, who coordinated with 5–10 Buch Construction workers every day.

How did you come to work with Buch Construction?

We found Buch Construction through a referral. They were the most affordable construction option, which was a big factor for us.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $100,000 on phase one of construction, and our total cost for the project will be $100,000–$500,000 after phase two.

What is the status of this engagement?

Phase one of the engagement spanned from January 2022 to early February 2022. Phase two will start in May 2022, when the necessary materials arrive. We’re scheduled to wrap up work this summer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’ve been great — we’re really happy with the results of phase one and looking forward to completion. They helped us navigate supply chain issues and make essential updates to the space during phase one.

Buch Construction was very accommodating of some unplanned changes during the last week of phase one. We wanted additional electrical outlets that weren’t in the original scope, but they made it happen. It has really helped our team to have those outlets available in those places, so we appreciated their flexibility.

How did Buch Construction perform from a project management standpoint?

We gave them a fairly tough timeline, but they got most of the phase one work done on time for our team to move in. 

Communication among all project stakeholders has been easy and effective. Buch Construction largely communicated with our third-party architecture firm and the commercial real estate company, without my direct involvement. However, we did have a weekly standup call with all stakeholders to review the status of the project, including updates on materials, permitting, and our punch list of items like scrapes, scratches, and holes to fix. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

This is my first commercial real estate project, so I don’t have a lot of context for comparison, but I’ve appreciated their willingness to accommodate our changed plans and help us navigate supply chain issues.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Some painting still needed to be done in early February while our team was moving in, and I wish that had been completed earlier. That’s not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, though, and overall, we’re really happy with Buch Construction’s work.
