The Gentleman
The Gentleman is a new and innovative Australian company normalising male self-care - starting with simple and effective skincare. On the surface, The Gentleman may look like another skincare brand for men. However, their mission is much more ambitious than hydrating faces. They encourage men to take better care of themselves, both inside and outside.
The Gentleman approached Brandwell to build their brand story from the ground up. They wanted an easily recognisable brand that could communicate both of their goals. We worked together to develop a clear brand strategy and position, including verbal and visual identity, package design, website design, app creation, and digital marketing.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm an executive at a retailer of at-home teeth whitening and oral care products.
What challenge were you trying to address with Brandwell?
We engaged Brandwell to design our website and provide branding elements for our business.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Brandwell developed our brand, and they designed and built our website. They also helped us with 3D renderings of our products and designed our packaging. Additionally, they provided us with digital marketing elements, such as email design and formatting. The team used Adobe Photoshop for the design work.
First, I gave them a brief of our requirements, and we had further discussions about the scope of work. From there, Brandwell provided us with a summary of what they'd be able to achieve and a cost breakdown. They created a wireframe sketch for the initial design concept with some stock photos and graphic elements to create a feel for the imagery and concept.
What is the team composition?
I was engaged with two people at Bradwell: Anthony and Damien (Co-Founders & Creative Directors).
How did you come to work with Brandwell?
I found them on Clutch. We were in the market for a local company with experience in web design and branding elements. I wanted to engage with someone who lived locally and understood the demographic so they could aid in the project's success. I found Brandwell, read positive reviews on their Clutch profile, and then checked their website. We started the engagement after that.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $30,000 AUD (approximately $21,000 USD) in total.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from February 2021–January 2022. However, the team has provided additional elements upon request, such as imagery and 3D render support.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Brandwell was very good, open, and forthcoming in their execution of the work. The team's ability to deliver on time was great, and so was their responsiveness to requests and scope creep. Anthony and Damien were very engaged throughout the process. Moreover, the team's communication was very clear. Their invoicing was also transparent; they were obliging with queries regarding billings or invoice breakdown requests. Overall, working with Brandwell was a good experience.
We haven't gone live yet, and our indicators of their success will be the desirability of the product, the packaging design, and the basic functions of the website. Time will tell how their work will perform. However, I'm confident that they've helped us create a very comprehensive and exciting new brand for the market.
How did Brandwell perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management skills were very good. The initial consultation and willingness to work were excellent; they created a well-done project plan with a full breakdown of the deliverables. This helped me understand the project and how long each element would take. Additionally, they met schedules and deadlines. The team was open about their timelines and when they could complete each section of the work.
As for communication, we mostly used email. However, there were times when the complexity of a discussion warranted a phone call, so we spoke over the phone several times. They were always happy to take our call; I never felt neglected as a client. Brandwell felt like an extension of my internal team. They were easy to communicate with and understood the scope of work really well. I appreciated their initiative in throwing ideas into the mix; the team was forthcoming with their recommendations in their areas of expertise, such as product packaging.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Brandwell's ability to understand the project's scope and our expectations was first class. Their design work was also great, and they delivered according to the brief. These two elements made them stand out from the crowd.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could improve their web design process. Brandwell used a third-party web developer, which is fine in itself. However, this caused the communication to become clunky. When I requested changes in web design, it would take a long time for the updates to happen, and I had to follow up a couple of times, which became frustrating. They needed to improve their communication with the subcontractor or get someone in-house instead of a third-party developer.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
My advice is to approach Brandwell with a clear understanding and idea of your deliverables. You must also communicate what you want from your brand design effectively. Providing examples of web designs that you like and want to replicate is also helpful. This will set your project off to a really good start.
In our engagement with Brandwell, we did extensive preparation for the proposal. The team was forthcoming in organizing briefing meetings. We went through a series of targeted questions for Brandwell to understand my business and what we were trying to achieve as a brand. This was instrumental in setting a good foundation for our partnership.

I’m the director of a currency exchange. We provide physical cash to people in Australia.
What challenge were you trying to address with Brandwell?
We wanted to build an online presence for our company. We also had just developed an app that needed design components.
What was the scope of their involvement?
To start our engagement, they spent a day learning about the specificities of our business. Then, they created our website and contributed design elements to our app. They also helped us create two professional logos to distinguish the two segments of our business. Once our app is more finalized, we’re planning on doing some digital marketing work with them as well. This would include social media marketing and promotional work.
What is the team composition?
I worked with Damian (Creative Director & Co-Founder), Anthony (Creative Director & Co-Founder), and one other member of their team. I believe they also brought in an outside firm to help build the website.
How did you come to work with Brandwell?
They do the marketing for a Japanese gardening page I follow. I was impressed with their work and their ability to communicate on behalf of the page.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $20,000 AUD (approximately $16,000 USD) with them.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from December 2020–May 2021. As I mentioned earlier, we’re planning on working with them again in the future.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Feedback has been great. We’ve only heard good things from internal and external parties. We haven’t done a ton of promotional work yet since our app isn’t finalized just yet, but our suppliers have liked what they’ve seen.
How did Brandwell perform from a project management standpoint?
They were great project managers. Their team was very responsive throughout the engagement. There were some delays, but those were due to us. Our project wasn’t very complicated, so we relied on email and phone calls for communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They took the time to listen to us and understand what we’re trying to achieve. They did everything they could to combat any cultural barriers we might encounter in the marketplace.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Some of the graphics they initially used weren’t too related to our business. When we communicated our displeasure about this to them, they promptly replaced them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Tell them what you want. They’ll help you achieve it. Even though they’re busy with other projects, they’ll take the time to listen to you.

I did speak with a couple of other candidates, but I chose Brandwell because I really connected with them from our first interaction. They got me and my business and really understood exactly what I was trying to convey. I also found that they were enthusiastic and passionate about what they did.

The project lasted between November 2020–February 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I haven’t actually launched my brand yet, but I can say that they nailed the brief exactly. When they delivered the final project, I didn’t even want to make any changes. I was just really excited about what they had to offer.
How did Brandwell perform from a project management standpoint?
The communication couldn’t be better. We coordinated by email and a few face-to-face meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Brandwell has a genuine passion for what they do. They really took the time to gain a detailed understanding of my business and objectives — so much so that I felt they were as excited about my company as I was. They absolutely exceeded my expectations.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they were incredible. I couldn’t expect more.

We needed help with our branding and brand messaging. We lacked consistency across all out touch points and our messaging was not clear internally or externally to our customers.
We outsourced a branding specialist like Brandwell to help us identify and create a consistent company profile that could be presented across all our touch points. We also used this company to help develop our website.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to create more brand awareness in an emerging industry, not just within Melbourne but within the whole of Australia. We wanted to identify our target customers more clearly and establish a market edge in front of our main competitors.
How did you select Brandwell?
We looked at lots of different Branding companies through Google and it was then a targeted add popped up on instagram that we decided to engage with this company after see the other companies they had worked with.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
It started with a meeting with Brandwell identifying what goals we wanted to achieve from the experience. Then we moved into a scoping session with the key decision makers of the company establishing our individual views on how the company is currently perceived and how we would like to be perceived in the future.
This also encompassed which target audience we were currently working with versus the potential industries we should be targeting in aim of gaining longevity within the market. There was a key analysis of all our competitors as well as feedback from existing clients to really establish our current position.
From there the plan was put into action and Brandwell established some branding guidelines for us before creating an web platform showcasing and delivering the messaging and feel we established from the scoping sessions.
What was the team composition?
Our team of key decision makers in the company worked closely with the other two directors of Brandwell along with a couple of SEO specialists to assist further with our written content.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Since works have been carried out with Brandwell and its all now live for all to see, we have noticed a change in peoples perception of our company for the better. Our internal culture and messaging has also become more consistent allowing our team to prosper further with their communications and services.
There is a clear distinction growing from an amateur company into a more professional company who is quite established within the industry within Melbourne. The plan is to keep working to translate this to country wide.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Very effective. Our key decision makers in our company are all very different and Brandwell effectively tapped into us all individually. There were moments where a lot of the dead time in between was due to hiccups on our end but Brandwell kept really engaged with us right up until the end.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I was impressed by the company willingness to learn and become aware of an unfamiliar industry. Their change in language from the first meeting to the second scoping session really gave us confidence that we were in the right hands. Brandwell also always had goals for us beyond our own thoughts which gave us more insight into what we should be aiming for.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Overall a really terrific company to work with. Only improvements would be that the process did take a while from start to finish so by the end of it we started to lose the excitement and mojo and just wanted things finished and launch to happen without over exceeding our budget too much.
The second lot of seo content writing did feel a bit disconnected from our initial ideas and messaging established in our scoping session however this was a new member that was hired for this work and came in at a later date.

In November we were a concept, but when Brandwell delivered we evolved into brand. The team worked with us to firstly refine our brand name which elevated our professional aesthetic.
After our creative strategy session we were pitched our new brand identity, which was nothing short of spectacular. The Brandwell team captured every nuance of our vision and helped us simplify our offering.

On this project we worked with Anthony and Damien as creative leads with Georgie casting some magic with our brand voice.

Currently we are in pre-launch phase, so all our analytics are pending.

They guys always picked up the phone and were ever so patient listening to our wild ideas. The whole process took around three hours of collective creative development from our end. Anthony and Damien managed this project smoother than moist bamboo mint mouth wipe.

Working with the Brandwell team is much like visiting a real life Buddha, I’ve never personally met one but I can imagine it would be the same. The guys are relatable, trustworthy, knowledgeable and calm. They delivered faster than expected and we just loved hanging out with them.

The bonus of working with Brandwell is that we did not have to worry about the process. We understood what we required from an outcomes perspective and Brandwell did the rest, from strategy sessions through to concept development and implementation.
Every decision made was verified by them to ensure it was on brand.

We had the two senior resources in the business work very closely alongside us and additional parties were brought on board when required for specific elements.

We feel the project was a huge success. After running feedback from the event held, we only heard positive feedback in relation to the brand and how it was rolled out.
We now have consistency throughout our marketing and know that we have all the tools in our toolbox to continue to advertise/market ourselves.
