Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a consultant at a baking company. The company started in 1902, and I’m the fifth generation of this family business. We have 170 outlets in Sri Lanka.

What challenge were you trying to address with Brandberg?

Our company has been present for a long time, so we felt that the face we put out to the public was 120 years old. Our branding was old, and the packaging styles had big logos. We needed help with packaging design and photoshoots.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We first approached Brandberg for our brand of nacho chips. They did the packaging for us, and we were really impressed. It brought newness to our brand. After that, they designed more stuff for us.

To jumpstart the project, we gave them our concept and told them what we wanted to achieve. We looked at some competitor items abroad, and then they designed something that catered to Sri Lankans and the local market.

Brandberg does our packaging design, not the printing. They interact with our printers to make sure everything goes smoothly. If any changes need to be done for printing, they handle all of that seamlessly.

After the product is on the market, they help us with photoshoots. The team meets us on the day and gets us on mood boards. We tell them what we want, and they help us shoot what we want to post on social media.

They’re currently working on a few products. They’ll also design our 120-year logo, which is a big move for us.

What is the team composition?

We’re in contact with Jonathan (Founder). He handles everything.

How did you come to work with Brandberg?

A good friend of mine recommended them; Jonathan did her brand. I looked at their designs and was very impressed.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $2,500.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2020, and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were worried that the modern packaging wouldn’t work for our brand and people wouldn’t see us as the old bakery and confectionery that we are. However, it has worked out, and products are moving.

Also, Brandberg is flexible, and they respond quickly to our concerns. The team is always there to explain our doubts to us. If we have ideas, they try to accommodate them. They also tell us the reality of the situations, and their pricing is great.

How did Brandberg perform from a project management standpoint?

They might get behind by 1–2 days, but it’s due to the changes we request. Brandberg checks in before the deadline and gives us a rough idea of what it’ll look like. We comment on that, and if we don’t have too many comments, the work is always on time.

We use email and WhatsApp to communicate. Jonathan handles everything. He’s efficient and always online. If we have any concerns, he helps us understand what’s going on. Whenever we send him a WhatsApp message, he replies to us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re flexible, new, and young. Brandberg’s services are above industry standards, and they have competitive pricing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing comes to mind.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

In the beginning, make clear what you want and be strict on the timelines. If you’re strict with those deadlines, they’ll deliver. You just have to give them proper direction.

We needed help with our packaging and web design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Brandberg designed our website. First, the team presented design and layout options for us to choose from. Another agency then developed the site. Afterward, we tasked Brandberg to help us with packaging, so they came up with some design concepts. 

Brandberg is now helping us with our marketing efforts, including social media marketing. They’ve already delivered some digital art for our print ads.

We work with three people.

How did you come to work with Brandberg?

We chose Brandberg because they seemed innovative. The agency was new, so they came up with some modern ideas. We also liked that their designs were tailored for both the domestic audience and the international market.

We’ve spent less than $10,000.

The project started in September 2020, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Brandberg works very fast and produces high-quality deliverables. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten many sales due to the COVID-19 lockdown, but we’re still satisfied with their work. They’ve created excellent packaging designs that portray our products well. Additionally, we like the web design and layout they've created for us.

How did Brandberg perform from a project management standpoint?

The team delivers on time, and they’ve done an excellent job of coordinating with us. We have no issues with communication — they’re always available even outside of business hours. We primarily use phone calls, but the Brandberg team has also stopped by our office a few times. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their creative outputs are better than those that were produced by other companies I’ve worked with. Brandberg is a young and innovative company — they’ve come up with ideas that we think will help us in the market.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’ve done a good job, but I'd suggest growing their team.

Development of a Gondola design for the Clogard Brand

SOLUTION

How did you select Brandberg?

We wanted to give young and new talent an opportunity. Having worked with them before was confident to give the job.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

We brief the agency on our requirement and brand guidelines. Based on this the design was developed. Post few rounds of adjustments we closed the design. Thereafter the agency went into 3D modeling.

What was the team composition?

I've worked closely with Johnathan.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have worked with Jonathan on several occasions in the past with regards to developing product packaging designs, campaign artwork and POSM artwork for the brand Clogard. He also helped in conceptualizing and designing a fully branded Gondola which is to be rolled out within our SMMT & Modern Trade channel outlets.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had a meeting every other week to measure progress and share feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Young & creative talent. Very flexible on client requests and also is open in trying out new designs and concepts where applicable. Another commendable attribute, their dedication to ensuring the client is 100% satisfied with the work presented was impressive.

Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?

Would have appreciated if the agency was more responsive to emails.
