BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a co-founder of Horizon App. We created a platform that helps functional fitness and CrossFit gyms manage their businesses.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with BlueRock?

We needed to officially start our company, so we engaged with BlueRock for legal and accounting services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, they set up our company structure and everything else we needed to operate, including a trust. The team created the terms and conditions of the app.

They provide legal services and do all of our accounting. They’ve done a bit of business strategy work with us as well. We’ve had workshops on our business plan and on how to grow our business.

Right now, BlueRock does our business activity statement (BAS), which is a quarterly tax lodgment, and our full tax return at the end of the year.

What is the team composition?

We work with 4–5 people from BlueRock.

How did you come to work with BlueRock?

A friend of ours knew someone from BlueRock’s legal team and recommended them to us. 

How much have you invested with them?

The cost so far is $10,000–$50,000 AUD (approximately $8,000–$38,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with BlueRock around August 2019, and the relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Accounting is always accounting, but the services BlueRock has provided us have always been great. They’ve done a good job with our terms and conditions.

How did BlueRock perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t really need this level of involvement for their services, but we’ve used project management tools like Asana. Most of our communication is via email and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a really young, cool, and funky professional services firm. BlueRock’s founders came from more traditional and stuffy companies. They wanted to start a fun company that really pushed boundaries and provided a different level of service to their customers. 

My partner and I don’t believe in doing things one way just because that’s how it’s always been done. BlueRock seems to push the envelope with everything they do. Their office is essentially just like their website; it’s decorated with a big unicorn statue in the reception area and a giant chessboard on the floor.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything in particular.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

BlueRock has a lot of company divisions, and they’re able to help the customer. They’ve looked into government grants and other things that would help our business. If you’re not sure whether BlueRock can do something, my advice is to just ask them. If they don’t know, they’ll find out or point you in the right direction.
