I recently completed the "Effortless Communicator" professional course with Betterworks Asia in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The day covered a refelction our current communication styles, how and why we think the way we do - through an exploration of DISC categorization and how we can best reflect and overcome common pitfalls. Wonderfully insightful, plenty of interaction and experience with others on the group, and left me with a better understanding of who I was as an individual and how I can communicate more effectively.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Awarness of pitfalls in assumptions, DISC personality survey and how I can collaborate with others and post-course follow up and training with partners.

The project ran smoothly, was well structured and provided the right amount of drive for progress, trial and error and moments of reflection.

Over the course of 10 personalized coaching sessions, Thijs guided me through a structured development journey focused on leadership, communication, and strategic growth. Each session combined practical tools with deep reflection, helping me better understand my strengths, challenges, and growth areas.

Key deliverables included:

• A Core Competency Matrix that mapped out my existing strengths and areas to develop, giving me a clearer picture of my professional profile.
• Personalized coaching exercises to improve leadership presence, decision-making, and team management.

• Improved Leadership Skills: I now lead with greater confidence and structure. My team has responded positively to my more intentional and empathetic leadership style.
• Enhanced Communication: My communication—especially in high-stakes discussions—has become more thoughtful and effective. I received direct feedback from colleagues noting improvements in how I lead meetings and give feedback.
• Stronger Presence with Management: Following Thijs’s negotiation preparation, I successfully engaged in meaningful conversations with management, which led to increased visibility and influence at the leadership level.
• Better Self-Awareness: I’m now more aware of how my behaviors impact others and have adopted strategies to adapt my style based on different personalities and contexts.

Thijs demonstrated excellent project management throughout the engagement. Each session was clearly planned in advance, with mutual agreement on the next session’s focus and schedule. He was highly organized, ensuring that we maintained steady momentum across the 10 coaching sessions.

Thijs consistently showed up at least 5 minutes early for every session, which reflected his professionalism and respect for my time. He was always well-prepared, responsive to my evolving needs, and flexible when deeper topics emerged during our discussions. His ability to adapt while still delivering structured outcomes made the experience highly effective and reliable.

What stood out most was Betterworks Asia’s highly personalized approach. He has a remarkable ability to adapt his message and coaching style based on the individual he’s working with. Rather than following a rigid structure, he tailored each session to my specific context and needs, using practical exercises that were directly relevant to my challenges and goals. This adaptability made every session feel purposeful, engaging, and impactful.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Betterworks Asia could have done differently?

From my perspective, there aren’t any areas for improvement at this time. The experience was smooth, well-structured, and highly valuable from start to finish. Thijs delivered exactly what I needed, and I felt supported throughout the entire coaching journey.

I’m a consultant at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), a regional organization that provides practical, science-based solutions to help Asia-Pacific countries manage disaster and climate risks and build long-term resilience.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mr Thijs from Betterworks Asia provided in-person communication training for me along with a group of diverse participants as a part of ViCo Professional Development Course. The training covered the main principles of communication, how to connect with anyone around you, different communication styles and how to adapt to them, a simple step process to get to the heart of the matter every time, and how to communicate with more confidence.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I left the course not only more confident but also equipped with tools to build stronger relationships and communicate with clarity and impact. I’ve started applying these tools in my conversations, and I’m noticing more clarity in my communication. My colleagues have complemented me on my conversation style; they’ve immediately noticed that I’m paying more attention to my body language, tone, and words while communicating and that I’m able to capture most of the information from listening. Overall, my personal performance has been better.

Betterworks Asia was very professional and dedicated. They delivered not only what we expected but also enhanced the entire learning experience. From the initial needs analysis to post-training support, their commitment to excellence was evident.
