I’m a co-founder of an online cremation services company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bend Law Group?

We needed help with our company formation project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our first project with Bend Law Group was to determine what kind of company we would be, whether it was a partnership, LLC, or corporation. They walked us through all our options, helped us determine that we couldn’t be an LLC, and walked us through what kind of corporation to form. The team has helped us get registered, trademarked, and set up our corporation.

They’ve also helped us create the contracts and documents families sign when making arrangements. They’ve also written our privacy policy and terms and conditions for our website.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with two attorneys and three different administrators from Bend Law Group.

How did you come to work with Bend Law Group?

We found them on an online list of the best companies to work with on intellectual property for startups, and we got connected with a former attorney of theirs. We started with a couple of phone calls with Bend Law Group to explain what we were trying to accomplish.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent around $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Bend Law Group meets our expectations. They also provide more than we initially thought they would due to their ability to jump into contracts and policies after the company formation project, which has been really helpful.

How did Bend Law Group perform from a project management standpoint?

In the beginning, we had issues with communication; sometimes, there would be a three-day delay in email responses. However, they’ve addressed this, adjusted, and now they respond to us within 24 hours. We also use Zoom for calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Bend Law group works hard to deeply understand how the things we do now will affect us years from now. We’re first-time business owners, and we’ve had many questions ever since we were creating our bylaws. The team wants to help us understand the implications of what we do, and they really want to understand us to make sure they’re setting us up for success years from now.

Additionally, they’re not the kind of provider that needs to be on a retainer. Bend Law Group works with hourly rates and provides project quotes and flat fees. This is great for us because we don’t have to give a large retainer upfront — we pay for their services as we go.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had an instance recently where the attorney we were working with left the firm. We only found out when we sent an email to him asking an urgent question, and we got an instant response that he’d left. 

We immediately reached out to Bend Law Group, and they jumped in and helped us get the question answered just as fast as he would have. However, it would have been nice to know that our attorney was stepping away beforehand rather than after the fact.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to clarify what the communication will look like and how timely responses are expected. They’re a digital firm that handles everything remotely, which can be new for people. If it is for you, make sure Bend Law Group understands your communication expectations.
