BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We are a new research lab within a large organization. Our goal is to become an authority in a specific research domain by performing research and disseminating research-related information (e.g., white paper, approaches, collaborations, and publications) to the community.

I am responsible for overseeing all outreach activities and promotion of the research.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire BAUM LTD., and what were your goals?

Since we are a new research lab, the task was to figure out a suitable branding direction that highlights our core research principles and expresses the culture of our lab. We wish to attract researchers (PhD holders, mostly) around the world -- to come and join us and collaborate with us.

We met with several vendors. BAUM, LTD. stood out most. Particularly the CEO/Creative Director, Yuhki Woody Udagawa, understood what we were aiming for and presented us with cutting-edge, quirky, and fresh ideas that work best for us.

Describe the scope of their work in detail, including any steps and the final deliverables.

Our identity was created and perfected by BAUM, LTD. They delivered a complete brand packaging (name, logo design, tagline, KV, and illustrations). Building on this, they are delivering/have delivered a website, promotional video clip, and office/lab design. BAUM, LTD. takes their time to fully understand what we are about and what we want; they presented us with several options and worked with us every step of the way.

How many people from BAUM LTD. team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We work with the CEO/Creative Director, Yuhki Woody Udagawa, Eri Maeda (Project Manager), and Mizuki Matsuzawa (Project Manager).

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The most prominent success that is publicly available thus far is the KV. Since the pandemic began, our research activities have gone online, which means that we do a lot of conference calls for meetings and academic presentations. BAUM LTD., turned the KV into a conference call background for lab members to use.

The KV captures the essence of what we are doing so well that it attracts attention from researchers worldwide (our target audience). The KV is often the starting point, a great conversation starter, when we meet new people online.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

The Project Manager, Eri Maeda, and I meet weekly to discuss several projects we have going on in parallel. There is also a summary email after our meeting. We exchange several emails per week, as needed. The turnaround time is very quick. They always deliver on time and within budget.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The people. Period. The people makes this company. They are creative, patience, responsible, and flexible.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nothing. We are very satisfied.
