Alfa Bank is one of the largest banks in Russia. I’m the head of digital business via messenger, and I’m the founder of an internal startup, Alpha Message.

What challenge were you trying to address with 42Flow.Tech?

Together with 42Flow.Tech, we created a digital bank operating inside of four popular messengers: WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, and Viber. The business goal was to grow our sales for private customers and small to medium entrepreneurs.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

42Flow.Tech is developing our platform. Their team is building a web app and a chatbot with AI features. We’re also currently working on new projects, like partnership integrations with cybersports platforms and retailers.

What is the team composition?

The team size varies between 6–15 people, depending on what we need. Right now, we’re working with seven members from 42Flow.Tech. Our main point of contact is Igor (Head of Customer Growth), and I also talk to Max (CTO).

How did you come to work with 42Flow.Tech?

They were referred to us by a business partner in Kiev.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost per year is around €500,000 (approximately $560,000 USD), so the total so far is around €1.5 million (approximately $1.7 million USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the B2B part of our project in July 2019, and the B2C part started in August 2020. We’re still working with 42Flows.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The biggest metrics for me are our customer and sales counts. That being said, we’ve attracted 100,000 new B2B customers for the retail bank. We’re now planning to get 300,000 new customers in 2022.

How did 42Flow.Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re good in this respect. I can get ahold of them through multiple channels, including Zoom and Google Meet. We use Asana and Jira for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a fast and professional company, and I believe that they have big opportunities awaiting them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

42Flow.Tech has to make their business analytics more qualified. I think that both their team and ours could work faster and create better quality outcomes by focusing on architecture as well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s important to give them practical feedback, be it good or bad, in order for them to understand what the strong and not so strong parts of the work are.

We provide financial products for payments and loans. I’m a product manager for the company, working on mobile applications and chatbots.

There are cases when we need to provide our product without a good and stable internet connection. A Telegram chatbot was the perfect way to resolve this issue. We’re also going to launch chatbots for Viber and other messengers in the future.

I worked with two developers, one DevOps specialist, and some of Chatbots.Studio’s managers. There were 6–8 people from their team involved.

They were already working with my company when I joined. From what I understand, the company had some bad experiences with other providers. There was a competitive bid and Chatbots.Studio had the best expertise, pricing, and market feedback.

Everything was clear during the presale stage. They were available all the time as well as provided good and timely responses.

The first project had a cost of $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Chatbots.Studio from June–August 2020. We’ve also signed a support contract with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We haven’t launched the software because of local laws. The chatbot is available through search, but it’s not connected to our website. We’re working on accommodating the additional requirements and restrictions imposed by the bank. However, We’re happy with Chatbots.Studio’s work and their communication.

How did Chatbots.Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Everything’s been perfect. I can message them at 6 p.m., and they’ll answer us within 10–15 minutes, even though their workday has ended. We communicate via Skype and email, and we have access to their Jira.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our field is pretty difficult and our CTO isn’t the easiest person to work with, but Chatbots.Studio found a way to communicate with him in a productive way. They have hard skills as well as soft skills. The most impressive point for me was their ability to find common ground with our CTO.

Are there any areas they could improve?

According to myself and the feedback from my colleagues, everything’s been good and we’re happy to continue working with Chatbots.Studio.

As for now, we have over 30,000 buyers engaged with Chatbot for Viber and this number is constantly growing. We saved money on SMS notifications and plastic cards production - all requested features were added into a free and very nice-looking interface. We plan to have them add additional features and services beyond initial chatbot.

They are building a robust chatbot that uses Twilio, AWS, SendGrid, and dialog flow all pieced together. The chatbot interacts with the database depending on what the user requests. The chatbot had many flows depending on the user's input.

A single developer who I interacted with frequently.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project is ongoing, but I am very happy with the progress and product so far. Not only is it robust, but it can intuitively and efficiently gather all information needed from the user, making for an easy user experience.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I directly managed and guided the developer. I would meet with my partner to discuss ideas and present them to the developer. I would have a weekly call with the developer and also communicate through slack. It was very effective, as our ideas for the product had pivoted a few times.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

This company is very professional. Not only do they frequently ask for feedback, but they were also very open to additional requests my company would make. The developer works efficiently and is honest with his progress.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The only difficult parts were the time difference and the slight language barrier. The developer is very receptive, so the only issue would come with minor things like spelling and grammar. These ended up being very easy/quick fixes.
