GHH Innovations is a US consumer electronics company. I'm the industrial and chemical designer for the Ukraine branch.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with 3D TECH?

We needed help with making some 3D-printed models to be used by our engineering lab.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We collaborate with 3D TECH on 3D-printed prototypes and 3D scanning of CAD models. One of those models was a car roof rack for placing cameras and other electronics, designed specifically for two cars; 3D TECH did scans to get the proper shape of the car’s roof. They delivered 3D data like a point cloud, which we used to copy the car's body.

We work with them when we want to design something quickly and feel the shape of the future product. They use SLA, SLS, or FDM printers, depending on the required quality.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with four people from 3D TECH, including two engineers, a project manager, and a product lead.

How did you come to work with 3D TECH?

We’d been trying to find a local partner in Ukraine for almost a year. We would typically work with China at that time, but when we finally found 3D TECH, it was a perfect fit for us. We spoke the same language, and they were in the same city, which made it easy to go to their office and communicate.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent €5,000–€10,000 (approximately $5,800–$11,600 USD) with them so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in February 2021, and the project is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The feedback from my side is great — I’ve enjoyed working with them, and the 3D scanning is excellent.  I know that they can do higher-quality prints as well because I’ve seen the work they’ve done for other clients.

How did 3D TECH perform from a project management standpoint?

If I have an issue with the schedule or need something urgently, 3D TECH will always give me a high priority — they’re very supportive in that way. Of course, if they’re full or have prior engagements, they can't do the impossible, but the scheduling is always good.

I have a specific type of communication with 3D TECH since we’re doing business locally. It’s usually a verbal request along with some documentation. I know that they use management tools for big projects, but it’s easier for us to go there, discuss, and start the job.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very proactive, which isn’t typical for Ukraine. 3D TECH is a young team with great ideas, and they grow fast. They’re also involved in local city events, and they’ve helped our council with great things, such as making a 3D print of the opera house.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They need a bigger office to get more people and machines, but I believe they’re already moving to something bigger. Additionally, they’re close to China regarding printing quality, but they need to introduce more modern manufacturing methods, like silicon molds, alongside 3D printing. It would also be beneficial for them to open a paint house, in case we need it for the prototypes.— we'd work with them more if they start offering silicon molding and painting from my company's perspective.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I recommend discussing every point and taking notes.
