I’m the owner of CaliKid Burgers 'n Shakes, a QSR that provides chef-curated burgers using fresh ingredients.

What challenge were you trying to address with ZOUK?

We needed help with ADA compliance since all our stores are in California, and web accessibility lawsuits are a real thing. We wanted a site that fit our branding and provided customers with an easy and fun online ordering experience.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

ZOUK rebuilt our website from scratch, including strategy, development, hosting, and launch. They started with an accessibility audit of our old site, then built a mobile-first design system around our brand, including our mascot Avi. The build covered the home, about, gallery, contact, FAQ, rewards, and e-gift card pages, plus seven menu category pages. They also integrated an online ordering system, catering, and careers inquiry flows, and location pages. Accessibility was the core of the project, so they ensured WCAG 2.1 AA compliance throughout the site. This included keyboard navigation, skip-to-content, visible focus states, alt text on every image, carousels that announce themselves to screen readers, reduced motion support, and color contrast checked across our whole palette. They tested with real screen readers, not just an automated scanner. Moreover, they set us up on Cloudflare with CDN and image optimization, handled local SEO for both stores, and trained my team to update menu items ourselves.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our online orders increased by roughly 300%, and we got 5x more engagement on the site. We also got 30,000 unique visitors and 2 million+ requests through Cloudflare in the last 30 days, with no downtime. Moreover, 97% of real page loads scored “Good” on all three Google Core Web Vitals. The median load time for main content was 557ms; even at the 75th percentile, it was under a second, against Google's 2.5-second threshold. Regarding accessibility, the outcome was what didn't happen: no complaints, no demand letters, and I stopped worrying about it.

How did ZOUK perform from a project management standpoint?

They met the one-month timeline. We had weekly calls, plus a shared tracker, so I could see the progress without asking. Feedback usually came back the same day. We changed menu items mid-build, and they absorbed it without a change order. The only thing they pushed back on was accessibility. A few times, I asked for something visual, and they came back with how it had to be built to stay compliant. I appreciated that they didn't just say yes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ZOUK designed a fun site while staying ADA compliant at the same time. We got a lot of great feedback since it went live.
