We hired the UI/UX services of Yume Labs to design DIZ Mobile app and DIZ Enterprise Portal to connect Organisations with their employees and customers for awareness and engagement towards eno-initiatives.

We searched designers in our network for DIZ branding project and based on good experience with their right understanding of our business philosophy and alignment in the thought process, we shortlisted Yume along with a few other Design agencies. We finalised Yume for their cost estimation and resource allocation, which was needed for our project at this stage.

The team had detailed discussions with DIZ team to understand the business model, value proposition and the user journey. They did extensive research based on competitive benchmarking and industry news. They also used our initial prototype to craft the story for the user interface.

Based on clear directions both on design philosophy and user experience, they came up with a prototype within a week. They produced iterations incorporating our feedback and producing the final version within the expected duration.

We are pleased with the deliverables of the app. The UI/UX serves as the foundation for the app we are building. So far, we have received positive feedback. The UI has been appreciated and the branding guidelines created by the designer has been leveraged very well within the app as well in our all marketing and sales collaterals. Overall, we are very happy with the outcome as it’s very close to our vision of user friendly app.

The project management was done on Slack, Zoho, Zoom and in-person meetings and were very effective tools in two-way communication

One of our clients wanted a UI/UX design upgrade for their mobile application which we outsourced to Yume Labs.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The UI/UX design that we originally had for the application was unable to generate target audience engagement: users in the range of 18–30 years of age. We wanted a professional agency to help upgrade the UX/UI design to achieve the desired business results.

The app is a social-media application where users can form groups based on their interests. Other people can join those groups and create posts. Each post acts as a chat room where people can comment and chat with other users, communicating on a regular basis to solve their problems or learn about topics they're interested in.

Yume Labs shared a lot of improvement recommendations and then incorporated them in the updated UI delivered to us for development.

I worked with three people. Pritam was the main point of contact for us. The other two looked after the UX design and graphic design parts.

We searched on Google and LinkedIn and found a bunch of companies. Yume Labs was very professional in terms of their proposal and communication.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June of 2021. The project lasted for about two months and ended in August of 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We are currently in a data testing phase, but the application is getting a lot of traction; people are really loving it. Our client is also very satisfied. We achieved what we were looking for in terms of user interactions and the ease of use of the application. There’s a marked improvement in user engagement.

How did Yume Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They were actually ahead of our deadlines. There was no delay or gaps in between, and everything was clearly communicated. Communications spanned a project management tool and emails/calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The overall experience with them was very impressive — the communication, the design, and the experience they gave us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The pricing could improve, as they were 10% higher than the others, but their professionalism deserves more than just a 10% increase. There was nothing I can suggest beyond that.

Any advice for potential customers?

You should definitely consider Yume Labs for their work; you'll have nothing to worry about.

Yume Labs analysed our UX and identified several major issues. While we were unaware, these issues had had a significant negative impact on our business. Yume labs went on to redesign our UX from the ground up. They looked at all our consumer journeys, for both our free and paid consumers. They reimagined our LMS journey, Home Page, Product Discovery and consumer engagement journeys.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were looking for a boutique agency that could give us a fresh/ out of the box approach. The founders at Yume labs made it really easy for us by showcasing their ideas. We liked their approach and their credentials and decided to give them a chance.

We started with UX Review which brought out the major issues with existing customer journeys. This took a week or so. Then we jumped to consumer and business goals for this exercise. After this we had regular meetings at every stage of delivery

We wanted to design an inventory management and aggregation solution.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We involved Yume Labs in two areas. First, they did the design component for the look and feel of the UI. We had a broad idea in our mind, so we wanted it documented in a way the teams downstream could execute them. They used Adobe XD to design and document our ideas.

Once the design component was done, they converted it into HTML documents, which would be used by the frontend teams downstream. They did both the UI/UX and frontend execution. On the other hand, we did the backend execution.

What is the team composition?

We had four people on the team, but two people did 70% of the work.

How did you come to work with Yume Labs?

We chose them because they were experts in the field. They understood and matched our requirements. The mockups they shared at the beginning of the project convinced us that they could do our thinking process. Also, their cost was amongst the lowest.

We worked together from August–October 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They exceeded our expectations. We onboarded 50 users and asked them about their experience — it was all very positive feedback. Everybody appreciated the UX/UI; none of the users had complaints. Moreover, customer retention on the platform was significant.

How did Yume Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They did really well. We mostly used Gantt Charts and Excel to track the progress. Yume Labs met most deadlines; sometimes they asked for another week to execute something. However, those extra timelines were due to inevitable circumstances during COVID-19. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They connected with us and understood our requirements quickly. Also, they had contacts in the industry that they could reach out to when we got stuck on specific parameters and had nowhere to move on.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could further strengthen their project management and stakeholder management teams. When their developers are working on something and they face an issue, nobody knows about it. They could have better communication with the overall project management team.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Bargain strongly; there’s a good chance they’ll come down on their rates.

I’m the head of marketing at SimpliContract, an enterprise SaaS platform in the contract lifecycle management space.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yume Labs?

When I joined the firm, we were an early-stage startup, and our website had been put together during the team’s formative years. However, our product had evolved, and it had many good features catering to different needs within an organization. While our software had become enterprise-grade, the website didn’t convey the complexity of the problem we were solving, nor did it capture the product’s capabilities or competitive differentiation. 

The platform caters to the needs of procurement functions, legal functions, and sales operations. Each of the functions within an organization views the platform with their own lens. We wanted a website that displayed and articulated the A–Z of our platform and how it addresses the different pain points and functions within an enterprise regarding contract management. We also wanted the site to be a lead magnet and give the user information with as few clicks as possible. The overarching objective was to revamp our website and redefine our positioning and messaging — we wanted content and context.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave Yume Labs our content and our vision. They looked at what different SaaS companies had in terms of projected capabilities on their site, best practices in the industry, and styles. The team came back to us with options and recommendations based on our product and the segment it serves. From there, they designed the UX, helping us understand the information architecture. 

After that, they designed the UI. Based on our brand guidelines, they recommended extending our color palette to diversify and not restrict our choices. Once they did the UI/UX, Yume Labs brought in a development partner that worked on the technical infrastructure and coding using JavaScript. The developers also did SEO and took care of performance. Currently, Yume Labs is helping us with GDPR and cookie policies. They also provide us with advice on the website.

I’ve interacted with three people from Yume Labs; two founders and a communication designer. We've also worked with 4–5 people from their development partner’s team.

How did you come to work with Yume Labs?

One of Yume Labs’ co-founders is a school friend of one of our company’s co-founders. Choosing them was a marriage of logical thoughts and ideas. We were a startup, and we didn’t have deep pockets to splurge on a website. The project's cost was important for us, and we wanted to partner with a vendor that had our same hunger and could grow with us. 

Yume Labs showed us that hunger; they did a benchmark of our website and gave recommendations based on our industry’s direction. Even before we signed a contract, they came back with an analysis of our website and what we should be doing. We felt like they could partner with us rather than just take orders. Yume Labs’ solution-based approach was very clear, so we chose them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our objective was to get the best website within our industry. In that sense, Yume Labs hit the mark, and that’s the most important metric for me. Even though the website is finished, the team still gives me their insight and recommendations. I’ve even reached out for advice on hiring communication design interns, and they told me where I could find talent. 

Yume Labs doesn’t restrict themselves to the project’s scope; they guide us beyond that, even if it’s not a paid engagement. Overall, they’re a good sounding board about what more we can do.

How did Yume Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

In this engagement, project management is a case of two startups working together. We hustle, and they hustle, and there’s a lot of back and forth. We have a partnership where we work iteratively to get something we both like. In that sense, they’re very flexible. 

However, that flexibility and iteration impact the time the project takes to complete. Although we had a delay in the website delivery, it wasn’t due to the inefficiency of the setup or the team. I have a lean team, so I couldn’t always get back at them in the agreed-upon timeframe when they sent me something. 

In terms of tools, they use Asana and Adobe XD, where we collaborate. We also have meetings and weekly updates. Overall, we have a good collaboration. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Although Yume Labs is good in terms of capabilities, I most appreciate their hunger to work with us and see us succeed. They put their heart into the project and want to see its implementation. The team wants to deliver value and find the best way to do things. As a startup, that matters to me because we wanted the best at the lowest price, and that's what we got. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve their project management and their process around timelines. When two creative groups work together, there’s a lot of iteration and repetition. However, I wouldn’t put this on them because I’m as responsible for that as they are. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to ensure that Yume Labs is aligned with your objectives. Make sure they understand you and go in the same direction as you. Additionally, don’t judge them based on them being a small company, but on the hunger and spirit they bring to the engagement.

We were developing a machine learning software product and needed help with the UX/UI design. The challenge was that we’d already started the development before our engagement. The first set of screens was developed, so they had to align with what we’d done.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We engaged Yume Labs to do the UI/UX designs. Their work wasn’t restricted to only one product, but our product was one of them. We had some time pressure, so they finished ours first. They initiated the feedback dialogue for this part of the work.

We had to make improvements. Yume Labs started to work on whatever wasn’t developed for the second release. Later on, they gave us the developed screens. An essential requirement was having a first release where the screens would follow the old pattern and a second release with the new pattern.

What is the team composition?

We coordinated with three people, including a project coordinator, someone who did the wireframes, and a designer.

How did you come to work with Yume Labs?

I wasn’t involved in the selection; our company was already working with them on other products. They were very open to adapting their plan to see that we get the designs right.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January–March 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We gave them very tough timelines, and they never complained about it. Moreover, we always had the releases within the timeline. They adhered 100% to the schedule and requirements. Although we had several restrictions on our end, they did an excellent job. It was a great relationship.

Also, we were happy with the designs. There was only 10% rework, but it never resulted in an extended timeline.

How did Yume Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very accommodating, and the team adapted very well to our requirements and schedule. They would set up calls with us to walk us through the designs, and we had iterations to give them feedback since the designs weren’t always right in the first round. We liked that they were very open to feedback, and they understood the context of why we wanted to see certain things.

Additionally, they never let the timelines get affected nor restricted their support. Yume Labs was always willing to go the extra mile, and we never experienced any chaos with them. It was all very well planned, and communication was excellent. They used Zoom as a tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The collaboration was great. They were willing to support us and not restrict themselves to what was agreed. Every time we asked for help, they were ready to go the extra mile. We were very happy with their attitude.

Are there any areas they could improve?

As we get feedback from our customers, we realize some things could’ve been done differently, and we would’ve expected this input from Yume Labs. For example, we have screens where we have to do many data updates, which can be very cumbersome for the end user. We needed the screens to be easy for the users, and our requirements were very straightforward. Since they were experts in UX design, we would’ve thought they’d anticipate this problem, so they could improve on that.

Give them a little bit of freedom and tell them the expected outcome from the end users’ point of view.
