I’m the COO of a SaaS solution provider for personal injury or consumer-based law firms. I oversee the company’s operations from support, implementation of the technology, and sales resources, and I also touch a bit on the product development side from a direction standpoint.

What challenge were you trying to address with WaveAccess?

We had a tight timeframe to develop our product before our go-to-market launch. At the time, we had developed a proof of concept but didn’t feel comfortable enough to build our own development team and successfully meet the deadline. Therefore, we hired WaveAccess.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

WaveAccess has built a SaaS-based application for us. Initially, we already had the solution mapped out and had chosen the technology and platform. We shared our proof of concept and demonstrated it for the team. From there, we collaborated to architect the app so that it could scale as much as we wanted to, so they factored in overnight explosive growth capabilities. 

The team delivered an MVP within six weeks. Since then, WaveAccess has delivered a new system build every two weeks, continuously adding features, enhancements, and functionality. They use AWS, and I believe they use C# for development. 

What is the team composition?

We work with 11 teammates from WaveAccess, including a project manager and a development lead. They get support from a UX designer, some backend infrastructure development resources, and frontend developers. We also have a QA testing resource.  

How did you come to work with WaveAccess?

I’ve worked with WaveAccess for about ten years. First, we collaborated when I worked at a company for which they were our development firm. About eight years ago, I had an idea for a product of my own, and I went to them to build the application; that was a positive experience. Later, I was fortunate enough to sell that business. 

When I was working with my CTO on this project, I convinced him that we should give them a shot because I had a very good comfort level with them. As soon as he spoke with WaveAccess, we decided they were the group where we needed to place our energy. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $500,000 on this product. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve been absolutely delighted with the results WaveAccess has delivered and the speed at which they’re working. Our primary metric is reaching our November 2022 launch date; we’ve invested $10 million into an event with 10,000 people at the Mercedes Benz stadium, so we need to reach that deadline. The team has already met our minimum requirements and is now adding more features for the launch.

They’ve made huge progress in a few months, so we’re currently working with beta clients. Moreover, the overall project cost has been lower than we would pay by hiring our own staff; our savings will be around 50%. We envision a successful launch and development of many things with WaveAccess in the future; we anticipate a many-year engagement with them. 

How did WaveAccess perform from a project management standpoint?

Our project manager has been fantastic. One of the typical concerns when working with an offshore provider is working on the same clock. WaveAccess works our hours and is available to us throughout the day on our schedule, which is super helpful. As for language barriers, we’ve had zero issues from a language standpoint; nothing has been lost in translation, which we’re super pleased with. 

Additionally, their responsiveness is fantastic when reaching out to anybody on the team. We use Microsoft Teams and Slack to communicate and Jira to manage the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Something that stands out about WaveAccess is that they make really valuable suggestions. They don’t just take direction from us; it’s a collaborative effort where they add valuable insight into the product. I can tell they’re thinking about the project throughout their day and not just taking complete guidance. 

We’re hoping to bring in around 500 clients at our launch event, and WaveAccess has created a quick entry to enable us to bring on those clients in preparation for the launch. Little things like that show us that they’re paying attention to the product’s development and our business as a whole. Sometimes even employees within an organization don’t pay attention at that level — it’s been really refreshing.

I can’t think of anything they need to improve offhand.

I’m the CEO and founder of Jisp, a retail marketing and technology company. We have a web service that predominantly supports and serves the retail sector, specifically in grocery.

Our job is to provide retailers with the ability to present products and promotions to their customers.

What challenge were you trying to address with WaveAccess?

We started working with WaveAccess in 2011 with the idea of having them as our technology partner, because I couldn’t find someone technically capable of creating the services I had imagined.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

WaveAccess is our primary development partner that provides us with custom software development. We start every project by discussing the features we want to implement, which they would then scope out and create a set of documents for me to review.

After that, we’ll agree on an agile period to develop the project, which usually takes about 2–3 weeks to deliver a demo version to test the functionalities. Once the testing is completed and the bugs have been fixed, we would release it to the public.

What is the team composition?

We typically work with a lead developer, project manager, three testers, and one QA specialist. We would also work with an Android or iOS developer and front- and backend developers for when we need to create a mobile version of our software.

How did you come to work with WaveAccess?

My previous development partner highly recommended WaveAccess to me, after he got funding to do his own project. We ended up working together because I liked the way they approached my project and how they adopted a position of listening and understanding — they took the core elements of what I wanted to achieve and funneled that into a scope.

We were able to form a relationship because of the strong connection between what I wanted to achieve and what they could deliver.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve probably spent over $5 million over the course of our engagement.

What is the status of this engagement?

WaveAccess started working on this current solution in January 2016, and it’s still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I would say we’re looking at about a 90–95% success record with being accepted in the app stores. We’ve only been rejected two times because of some technical issues like the copy in the terms and conditions and poor coding.

How did WaveAccess perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication skills always amaze me considering that English is not their primary language — while misunderstandings do occur, they’re very rare, so their management level is quite excellent in that regard.

Our main project management tool is JIRA, and we also use Excel Spreadsheets.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to take an idea and create something usable is still unmatched. One thing I would also like to highlight is that they’re not “yes” people. They don’t just say yes to our requirements, They take the time to understand our process and are honest with us in terms of the costs and capabilities.

Are there any areas they could improve?

After 10 years of working with them, I’m really struggling to find something they could improve on. I suppose the only issue that has ever occurred on occasion has been the technical interpretation of some of the aspects of the development — but that has more to do with us stepping up to understand them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice to people who are looking to work with them is to give them as much information as possible and don’t hold back. Always push for a specific date and don’t leave yourself open to delaying the delivery of the scope and documentation.

Additionally, you need to have a level of understanding of the development so they can successfully translate your needs into the process.
