Wallaroo manages the full scope of our email marketing, including strategizing, designing, writing, and sending 6 promotional or educational emails and 2 SMS messages per month, as well as building and optimizing automated email flows (such as welcome series, abandoned cart, and post-purchase sequences) to drive engagement, conversions, and customer retention.

We make custom Letterman-style jackets for clients from all around the world. People can go to our website and design their own jackets, and we will produce and ship the product. I am one of the owners of the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Wallaroo Media?

We needed to maintain our number one worldwide ranking and dominate our market. We felt that the answer to this was to beef up our website in order for it to handle more of the questions we are typically contacted about and allow us to process orders much faster and smoother.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wallaroo Media has designed and built our website and worked on its SEO. Wallaroo Media has also managed our pay-per-click advertising. We are planning to implement custom Instagram and Facebook advertising as well as producing YouTube content. I don't know if the latter will actually bring sales, but it will help legitimize our company. People sometimes don't grasp that we're a real business.

How did you come to work with Wallaroo Media?

Wallaroo Media approached me with a plan that I couldn't beat. Most of the SEO companies we'd used prior to Wallaroo Media required upfront payments for 3-month periods and couldn't guarantee any results. Wallaroo Media allowed us to pay them based on the success we saw. Instead of just talking up a big game, Wallaroo Media actually needed to perform for the money.

How much have you invested with Wallaroo Media?

The cost of Wallaroo Media's SEO and ad management services is around $6,000 per month. The website development will have a cost of $20,000, but that's a one-time shot and will only require some minor upkeep on an ongoing basis.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working with Wallaroo Media for 6 years [since 2012]. The collaboration is completely ongoing. I've learned that SEO work can't simply stop once we've reached the top because we would simply roll back down the hill.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We can't ask for more than reaching the number one Google spot worldwide. I had never conceived of that and saw it as being beyond the realm of possibility. All I wanted was for kids to go to our website and be able to make some design work before coming to our shop. I was thinking purely local. As we started fanning out across the United States and the world, I started getting many new kinds of orders for the same kinds of products. As an example, we received 900 orders for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" – the TV show. We never thought we'd get this type of order, but now they're rolling in all the time, amounting to more than 60 percent of our total business. We receive inquiries from movies and hip-hop people like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg, which we weren't catering to. This leads to a much higher profit markup.

There are stock products that we sell through Amazon. Wallaroo Media has developed a system that measures how many of each measurement and color we are selling. I would never have thought of this, but it's a no-brainer. I can simply put stock jackets in a box and ship them.

We could have stayed small, but I found that I loved doing the kind of business that was opening up. Every day is an adventure, and I love my job again.

I've been in this business all of my life, and couldn't see the forest for the trees, in terms of what was out there and what could be done. Wallaroo Media offered to handle the marketing for me and create new business opportunities.

How did Wallaroo Media perform from a project management standpoint?

Wallaroo Media's team travels around the country, teaching seminars, but they've always been available to me. Communication is one of their strong points.

What did you find most impressive about Wallaroo Media?

I appreciate the fact that Wallaroo Media doesn't work with multiple clients in the same field. The number one spot can't be guaranteed for 2 people, so Wallaroo Media doesn't pit customers against each other.

Are there any areas Wallaroo Media could improve?

No.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Wallaroo Media?

Clients should let Wallaroo Media do what they do and not try to overmanage projects. If someone came in and tried to tell me how to embroider a jacket, I wouldn't give them the time of day. Many people think they know more than they do.
