What challenge were you trying to address with Wallaroo Media?

We needed help with SEO. Our goal was to increase our keyword rankings and optimize our website to increase its authority. The focus was on creating content and hitting certain keywords for our target customer base.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wallaroo Media provides SEO services. We’ve done a lot of discovery work, including briefing the team on our business, what we do, and potential keywords. We’ve also given Wallaroo Media a list of some ingredients we sell and products we want to impact in the marketplace. Wallaroo Media has done website audits and competitor analyses. From there, they’ve created a roadmap to increase our Google rankings.

We monitor our rankings and look at our analytics month over month. Wallaroo Media has a team of copywriters who help create content. We work together to strategize. If some of our blogs aren’t performing well, we’ll focus on them or add a new product to the roadmap. I deliver any information that would be helpful for their copywriters.

What is the team composition?

I typically chat with the SEO account manager, and sometimes, the VP of SEO joins the calls.

How did you come to work with Wallaroo Media?

Wallaroo Media was a referral from a former colleague who had used their services. We interviewed a couple of different companies, but we had great initial interactions with Wallaroo Media. They were friendly and seemed to know a lot about SEO, so we decided to move forward with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our organic search sessions were up 93% year over year from 2023 to 2024. Additionally, by the end of 2024, we had 147 top-three organic keywords.

How did Wallaroo Media perform from a project management standpoint?

Wallaroo Media is very organized. They always use the roadmap as a guide. We communicate via email and hop on Google Meet video calls every month. The team also has reporting tools and sends me monthly recaps that go over all the analytics. We use Google Docs to review content, and their roadmap is on Google Sheets.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Wallaroo Media definitely wants us to succeed. I appreciate their communication and transparency. If they see something that isn’t performing well, they tackle it head-on and devise a strategy to optimize the content.

Wallaroo Media has had a learning curve to know our industry, but I can't think of anything they could improve on. Wallaroo Media takes feedback well and caters to our strategy based on the information I give them.

We needed to maintain our number one worldwide ranking and dominate our market. We felt that the answer to this was to beef up our website in order for it to handle more of the questions we are typically contacted about and allow us to process orders much faster and smoother.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Wallaroo Media has designed and built our website and worked on its SEO. Wallaroo Media has also managed our pay-per-click advertising. We are planning to implement custom Instagram and Facebook advertising as well as producing YouTube content. I don't know if the latter will actually bring sales, but it will help legitimize our company. People sometimes don't grasp that we're a real business.

How did you come to work with Wallaroo Media?

Wallaroo Media approached me with a plan that I couldn't beat. Most of the SEO companies we'd used prior to Wallaroo Media required upfront payments for 3-month periods and couldn't guarantee any results. Wallaroo Media allowed us to pay them based on the success we saw. Instead of just talking up a big game, Wallaroo Media actually needed to perform for the money.

How much have you invested with Wallaroo Media?

The cost of Wallaroo Media's SEO and ad management services is around $6,000 per month. The website development will have a cost of $20,000, but that's a one-time shot and will only require some minor upkeep on an ongoing basis.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working with Wallaroo Media for 6 years [since 2012]. The collaboration is completely ongoing. I've learned that SEO work can't simply stop once we've reached the top because we would simply roll back down the hill.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We can't ask for more than reaching the number one Google spot worldwide. I had never conceived of that and saw it as being beyond the realm of possibility. All I wanted was for kids to go to our website and be able to make some design work before coming to our shop. I was thinking purely local. As we started fanning out across the United States and the world, I started getting many new kinds of orders for the same kinds of products. As an example, we received 900 orders for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" – the TV show. We never thought we'd get this type of order, but now they're rolling in all the time, amounting to more than 60 percent of our total business. We receive inquiries from movies and hip-hop people like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg, which we weren't catering to. This leads to a much higher profit markup.

There are stock products that we sell through Amazon. Wallaroo Media has developed a system that measures how many of each measurement and color we are selling. I would never have thought of this, but it's a no-brainer. I can simply put stock jackets in a box and ship them.

We could have stayed small, but I found that I loved doing the kind of business that was opening up. Every day is an adventure, and I love my job again.

I've been in this business all of my life, and couldn't see the forest for the trees, in terms of what was out there and what could be done. Wallaroo Media offered to handle the marketing for me and create new business opportunities.

How did Wallaroo Media perform from a project management standpoint?

Wallaroo Media's team travels around the country, teaching seminars, but they've always been available to me. Communication is one of their strong points.

What did you find most impressive about Wallaroo Media?

I appreciate the fact that Wallaroo Media doesn't work with multiple clients in the same field. The number one spot can't be guaranteed for 2 people, so Wallaroo Media doesn't pit customers against each other.

No.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Wallaroo Media?

Clients should let Wallaroo Media do what they do and not try to overmanage projects. If someone came in and tried to tell me how to embroider a jacket, I wouldn't give them the time of day. Many people think they know more than they do.
