I’m the CEO of a film and television production company. We’re in the process of making independent films and some television series.

What challenge were you trying to address with Valuenode?

We’re going through a fundraising process, so I needed real-time numbers regarding some financial projections for the first seven years of business. Thus, we hired Valuenode to help us with financial projections and planning.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Valuenode has worked with our numbers and information, turning them into an investment portfolio with the financial projections for the first seven years of our business. Their estimations include all the leaks, expenses, costs, and profit-and-loss statements.

Initially, I provided Valuenode with raw data on every single aspect of the business and the money we spend and receive, including payroll, utilities, and office rental expenses. Additionally, I provided them with critical information so that they could be very detailed with the numbers.

For example, I provided them with the numbers of 20 random independent movies that came out within the last five years with budgets between $3 million–$10 million. Those numbers included the cost of the film, the revenue they made in local theaters, international theaters, and video rentals on cable.

From there, Valuenode took all that data and created various Excel spreadsheets detailing the market trends and financial estimates. These estimates included how much our movies could potentially make an investor and how much it would cost us to run, own, and operate the production company.

How did you come to work with Valuenode?

A friend who’s also a financial planner recommended them. I also saw some of the work they had done and noticed that they had huge tenure in the US. Thus, I was confident that they would provide a great service.

How much have you invested with them?

Valuenode agreed to work with us by charging a single lump sum fee based on how much work the project required. Given that we’re still working together, we haven’t defined a final fee.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2023, and our engagement is ongoing. They recently sent me the final projections, but we still need to discuss some things.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Valuenode has provided us with great insights and financial advice. They’re very knowledgeable in the financial realm, and the bonus of working with their owner is that he’s able to provide very good feedback. For example, at one point in time, he doubted the accuracy of the numbers because they looked very optimistic.

Then, he gave me his honest opinion, and we reworked those numbers to create a more accurate projection. Thanks to his experience and financial background, he was able to tell me why those numbers needed to be changed in a certain way.

How did Valuenode perform from a project management standpoint?

I really like that Valuenode’s owner is very easy to contact and talk to. We have a 10-hour difference, but we can reach out to him even after hours. He’s very responsive through various communication channels, including Microsoft (MS) Teams and WhatsApp, and he’s very eager to complete and turn in their work to our satisfaction.

We’ve had a lot of MS Teams conferences, where Valuenode shares their screen to go over the projections line by line. Their meeting setup is very easy and professional; they simply send us a link. Still, whenever I’ve had follow-up questions that don’t require a meeting, I’m able to chat with the owner via WhatsApp and MS Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Valuenode is very cost-efficient, so they can make small companies like mine get started in a feasible way. Other startup owners tend to forget about business planning when they’re starting, and they then end up at a disadvantage when they need information regarding ROI, costs, and expenses. Valuenode’s services cost a third of what other companies charge in the US, so they’re a very helpful option for small businesses.

In addition to that, I want to highlight that Valuenode’s services are almost impossible to find. Other accountants aren’t willing to do this type of work, which makes Valuenode even more special.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing Valuenode could do differently. I just wish there was a shorter time difference between us. Sometimes, I feel bad that they’re willing to meet with me at 11 p.m. their time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you’re not well-versed in what financial planning entails for your business, do a little bit of research on your own so that you can come prepared. Valuenode’s work will be as good as the information you provide them with.

I’m the head of originations at Statera Capital, a commercial legal finance firm that provides non-recourse financing for commercial disputes in the US and other countries.

What challenge were you trying to address with Valuenode?

We were trying to solve our challenges regarding marketing to lawyers in various places around the US. We wanted to collect their contact information to make it easy for us to introduce ourselves and provide educational materials about our industry and our services. Thus, we needed a service provider that could efficiently help us gather that information and put it in a format that we could use with our CRM to provide those lawyers with marketing communications.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Valuenode has helped us gather contact information from lawyers across the country and create a contact list for our marketing campaign. They’ve also assisted us in ensuring we were sending our marketing materials to all the people we wanted to send them to.

Before this project started, we already had a strategy around the types of law firms and lawyers we wanted to market to, as well as the regions in which we wanted to market our services. Therefore, Valuenode has focused on helping us execute that strategy and collect the information we need. Currently, we’re talking with Valuenode about some additional services and new ideas to expand our strategy and build on it.

We’ve been in contact with Venkatesh (Managing Director), who has a team helping him behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with Valuenode?

We found them online and had a couple of calls with Venkatesh to get to know them and understand their services. Then, we did a small test run with them, and we found them to be very effective, so we simply kept working with them.

We’ve spent between $10,000–$20,000.

We started working together around June 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The work products and data that Valuenode has provided us are of very high quality. We manage the QC on our end, and we’ve seen that Valuenode’s information is always very reliable. Moreover, as we’ve started to send marketing communications, we’ve noticed a very good response rate from people, demonstrating that we’re targeting the right lawyers. Those results are possible thanks to Valuenode’s work.

How did Valuenode perform from a project management standpoint?

Overall, Valuenode is great to work with. We’re extremely satisfied with their professionalism, responsiveness, and willingness to work with us through an iterative process. Their team has been flexible and proactive in offering ideas and solutions to make the project more effective.

Additionally, Valuenode is very cost-effective, and their services are worth the value. They’ve delivered right on time and stayed within the budget, so our engagement has been very successful in that regard.

Valuenode is also excellent at incorporating our feedback into their work, but they’re still very proactive in thinking a couple of steps ahead, which is helpful. They usually think about things we should have thought about before.

As for communication, Venkatesh is very responsive and easy to work with. We usually get an email back from him within an hour. Aside from email, we communicate via Zoom when needed.

We had to prepare several complex forecasts for projections and cashflow. We needed a solution which allowed us from one dashboard to input different variables accordingly

Value Node was introduced to us by a mutual contact. From our first zoom meeting, Value Node understood what we required and what was our goal was. From the questions and detail that Value Node went into on our first zoom meeting, it clearly demonstrated their ability/skillset, thus without delay we selected Value Node.

Our first Zoom meeting was more of an introductory call, allowing us to understand Value Node and Value Node to understand us and our requirements. This was then followed up by a thorough brief, we shared all documents, past and present for Value Node to work on, an all communication was done by, Email, Zoom and Whatsapp.

Software used - MS Excel, once Value Node prepared the first mockup, we arranged a zoom call where Value Node talked us through the document prepared by Screen share. Their efficiency in the whole process is second to none.

The cost/billing is flexible with Value Node. We worked on a job basis and all terms agreed at the project start.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the engagement or general feedback about the services?

Our first project with Value Node was completed within 2 weeks (we required it in this timeframe). From there because the level of work was completed to a high standard and on time, we of course gave further works for Value Node to complete. Overall the templates that we are now using for our projections has improved vastly and certainly made much more presentable for our investors.

Timelines, were pre-agreed, and stuck to. We were always kept up to date with progress and expected delivery. On most tasks actually delivered ahead of schedule. Communication has never ever been a problem with Value Node, very quick to respond at all times, whether it be Email, Whatsapp Message or Direct dial call.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their efficiency, level of detail, and knowledge are what I found highly impressive. Combined with great communication at all times/turnaround times, it gave us a great sense of comfort.

I cannot say that I have found anything that needs to be improved, we have had a great experience with Value Node and continue to do so.

Valuenode not only built & worked on the excel (XLS) financial model but also reflected the model assumptions and outputs in powerpoint (PPT) in a very intuitive and professional way. Valuenode was also forthcoming and helpful with turning other ad-hoc deliverables.

It was easy communication, requests were understood and turned quickly into highly professional outputs, taking pressure off our process, which was highly welcome.

Valuenode was available when we needed them and delivered a great output in a way that was required. The team was financially very literate which meaningfully accelerated the turn-arounds. Some individual tasks took an hour, others 20-30 budgeted hours to accomplish, and Valuenode's turnaround times were always very efficient.
