How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Umbrella had the right expertise and experience in the field, being an AWS preferred cloud provider. The CEO Mr. Gulati and his team had excellent professional mannerisms and the required skills, at most competitive rates. They had good references for the projects done previously.

Meetings to discover and detail our requirements, timings and deliverables were agreed and contract signed. The team worked as per schedule and within the budget, at every stage, working close with our in house web developers to complete the project in time, to the standard agreed and in budget.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm working as a virtual CIO at a company called Good Earth Design Studio Fabric Ltd, and my role here is architect head and solution designer. Additionally, I'm also helping a couple of other social companies like Nicobar, which is again, under the same umbrella. My profile is more into studying design and technology, and growth for the business.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Umbrella Infocare?

It all started somewhere around four years back, and at that point in time, I was stepping into the market. We were trying to reduce the in-house dependency for hardware implements and looking for an agile platform to host server digital technology solutions. We tried a couple of partners, but we found a lot of inconsistencies in their services.

Umbrella Infocare helped our entire cloud services, infrastructure, and our deployments. I think for the last four and a half years, we have not seen any kind of major breakdown or challenge in our infrastructure.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Umbrella Infocare started by hosting our entire infrastructure from an in-house or private data center to an AWS environment — they’ve also advised us on the right sizing and right structure. After that, it's all about security, which is really very important when you talk about the cloud, and for the last four years, they are helping us to build a stronger and stronger platform and reduce cyberattacks or any kind of platform attacks. 

Currently, they’re about to help us by opening their application vertical, and they’re going to help us by developing a couple of design solution platforms. Apart from that, they’re pretty good in surfing migrations. Recently, we’ve migrated from one cloud service to another cloud to AWS, and I think their tools have tentatively helped us to do the migration without any major downtime.

Moreover, they’re also helping us do the impact cloud monitoring for us, and they have done a couple of audits in terms of security and the sizing for the application. When I say security, the major part goes into network stabilization and signaling. They’ve also helped us optimize network portals in several places, and everything that comes under that umbrella. In summary, I can say that they're helping us in cloud structure, cloud maintenance, cloud monitoring application, and security maintenance.

What is the team composition?

I think from a leadership side, I interacted with 4–5 leadership members, which includes their CIO, the director, and two more leaders in general. From an engineering team side regarding our current various services, our campaign track with them is almost somewhere around 15–20 engineers.

Mishan is our main point of contact and he is their CIO.

How did you come to work with Umbrella Infocare?

That's an interesting story actually. I think four years back, we had hosted one of the websites into a private cloud and data center and due to the heavy traffic load, the site crashed — it was a big fail for us. We were looking for a partner who can help us upgrade immediately as the private data center had asked us to give them 48 hours to restore the services. 

I then got a reference from one of my colleagues. I called them, they understood the situation calmly, and they told me that within six hours, they can help me migrate the entire website and get it up and running on AWS — and they did exactly what they said. From that day moving forward, they’ve been making improvements to our service.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together somewhere around January 2018, if I'm not wrong, and it's still an ongoing partnership. We don't want to lose a partner like Umbrella because they’re really good. We have also signed a service level agreement with them for ongoing maintenance and support.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I think by now, you understand the kind of support they’ve given. However, when it comes to metrics, our downtime has reduced to below 0.9%, and an uptime of 99.9% on a daily basis. We used to get a lot of downtimes because of DDoS and encryption attacks, but Umbrella Infocare reduced that a lot with their security solutions and advisory over the cloud — we have minimized and proactively acted on these kinds of attacks. 

The third and most critical evidence is they’ve helped reduce our expenses on the cloud. Moreover, they’re helping us optimize and improve the experience on our website, by advising on the right components and tools. They're also advising us on how we can enhance our operations efficiently and reduce costs. In the last 1–2 years, we have reduced cloud expenses by 27%.

How did Umbrella Infocare perform from a project management standpoint?

They are proficient, professional, and they have skilled resources. They’re very good at managing risks and drafting complete project plans, to try and keep milestones and review mechanisms so we don’t miss timelines.

I think in my 17 years of career, they have one of the fastest response times I've seen. This goes within the entire company, from the CEO to a junior level engineer, everyone is reachable, whenever we have a problem. Our general mode of communication for project-related concerns is through email. We also have a common group on WhatsApp, and have video conference calls through Google.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There are a lot of things I find impressive, but the most important things are they're very approachable and trustworthy. These are two important factors which I would like to highlight because it's very difficult to trust someone in the market nowadays — they are trustworthy and they are reachable.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I think they are growing and improving their skillsets in application development. I'm sure they will find a couple of more good resources which will help them grow faster. Otherwise, they're perfect on the infrastructure side.

Any advice for potential customers?

I think the only advice is to have peace and keep your things and challenges transparent while engaging with them, so that they can offer you the right services and the right support.
