I’m the CEO and co-founder of Glorify, an e-commerce-focused design tool based on Cloud. It’s essentially SaaS software.

Uforia Infotech has worked on multiple projects with us. They do full stack development, QA, and R&D to add features and update our platforms.

The basic functionality of the application we’re working on is to provide entrepreneurs an affordable way to create their product images and marketing assets through customizable templates, e-commerce focussed design, and photo-editing tools.

What is the team composition?

Fahad (Founder & CTO) is my primary contact. Usman (Co-Founder) interacts with us as needed for infrastructure and other issues. Zeeshan (Senior Application Developer) leads up development, working with a few junior developers.

I found them through Upwork. They responded to a job I posted. They showed a solid grasp of what the project entailed and came up with aspects I hadn’t considered.

We began working together around October 2016, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The length of our engagement speaks for itself. We just reached 90,000 user signups, with 21,000 active users, out of which 1,700 are active on the platform daily. Fahad educates me on technology and helps me have deeper insights. Also, their quality has grown over time.

How did Uforia Infotech perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re phenomenal. We use Redmine for project management and Slack for daily communication. We have weekly standups where they provide updates regarding the project and delays that may have occurred. They provide accurate estimates on the timeline and set aside reasonable time for problem-solving. They’re structured, flexible, and willing to onboard any project management tools we request.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Due to their persistence and problem-solving skills, I feel that anything is possible. They approach advanced tasks with a problem-solving attitude, doing extensive R&D when necessary to achieve goals.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve the way they market themselves as an agency because they don’t do themselves justice.

Be clear about your goals and detailed in your brief. Also, have strong project management tools to get the project done.

We’re a marketing services company. We handle several brands, and our biggest one is a web-based marketing portal for banks. In there, banks can find everything they need to run their marketing department. The users can browse through the thousands of marketing templates that we provide. They can completely customize the templates on our site and send the materials straight to their vendors, printers, publications, or use them on their social media pages.

What challenge were you trying to address with Uforia Infotech?

Originally, we built a form-based platform on HTML for editing all of our core templates. The user would go in and see what the templates looked like, and they would use a form to change different fields and select the photos they wanted. Then, the system would produce a PDF based on those form selections.

We started to have more and more customers wanting more editability and control over the layouts. We needed to build a drag-and-drop editor where the user could see the exact layout, move elements around, and add elements.

We had our own team of developers, but we didn’t want to put them on this project — we wanted to bring in someone that was familiar with this type of editor.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Uforia Infotech helped us build a web-based drag-and-drop editor using Fabric. They segmented from our regular site, but they still had to integrate this platform into our existing system. They developed most of the frontend and a little bit of the backend, but most of the backend was developed by a different team.

Uforia Infotech’s team had to work on the integration. Our team built an API based on their requirements, and they worked hand in hand with them to get it done. We had 3,000 marketing materials that their editor had to be able to support, so they had to work on integration from the beginning.

After the development was done, we kept Uforia Infotech on at a smaller capacity. Now, they provide maintenance and support to the editor, and they add new features when needed.

We’ve spent around $40,000–$45,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2017, and the engagement is ongoing. We’re now talking about building out the second version of our editor.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

When we came into this project, there were certain requirements where Uforia Infotech, and specially Fahad, stood out. For example, we had to maintain vector graphics and CMYK colors in the final product. As we started interviewing people for the job, most of them didn’t know what those two aspects were, or their solutions didn’t account for that. Uforia Infotech’s solution not only met our requirements, they immediately knew what we were talking about.

How did Uforia Infotech perform from a project management standpoint?

We run the project from Trello. We set up a separate board with both Uforia Infotech’s team and our team, and we can track tasks and bugs. I talk to Fahad via Skype several times a week anytime there is a question or an issue.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Uforia Infotech’s intimate knowledge of specialized matters is impressive. They understand the technical components of this type of editor — I believe it's their specialty. The team knows the ins and outs of all the technology behind PDFs, print graphics, and digital graphics.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Uforia Infotech has a lot of work to do at the same time. I don’t know how big their team is, but sometimes I’ve needed to stay on top of some of the low-priority tasks in the queue to make sure that we’re getting them done. It’s not like they’re not working on those tasks and saying they are, it’s just that sometimes they have other tasks going on, and we have to get them back on our project to tackle low-priority tasks. However, they’re always on top of the high-priority tasks.

Any advice for potential customers?

Have weekly calls to make sure everyone is on the same page and stays on track. Even though it isn’t 100% necessary, it’s helpful. Have an easy way to communicate with them.

I am the President of the Alarm Sports Network, an industry leader in fantasy sports known for 25+ hours per week on Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio, powerful analysis, leading-edge customizable tools, and a family atmosphere. The company is led by fantasy sports industry pioneer, Rick Wolf and Howard Bender, one of the industry’s most well-respected fantasy sports analysts. Our style is infotainment. ASN is a virtual office company with locations in Half Moon Bay CA, Burlington Vermont, Fresno CA, Huntington Beach CA, and Pleasantville NY.

One of the members of Uforia built the original infrastructure for FantasyAlarm.com. Uforia is tasked with many projects associated with any of the 7 websites that are now in the Alarm Sports Network.

The scope of work is detailed in the work tasks assigned by the team leaders including the deliverables. The technologies used have varied over the years, but we are PHP/MySQL using various plugins and platforms. Our current platform is Larvell, but Uforia has used bootstrap and others along the way...including a custom platform that they helped to develop.

FantasyAlarm.com is one of the largest communities for fantasy sports players in the United States. The products and services that Uforia built are used by 100s of thousands every year.

We communicate using Slack, email and JIRA. Their collaborative management style is impressive

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The personal nature is what works for us. Usman is a member of the Alarm family and cares as much about the projects as we do. That is critical. Their team is invested in our success.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Communication is always difficult when in different time zones. We do our best, but I think that can always be improved.

I’m the founder of a car dealership website platform. Some of the features we have on our platform are a drag and drop website builder, inventory management, an import and export feature, a slideshow builder, and custom graphics.

Uforia Infotech helped us create HTML5 and SVG graphics apps. It involved Fabric.js, which is a framework and custom plugin. They also provided us with additional graphic design work. We have watermarked frames so dealers can put things like their logo and web address on their inventory photos and have them exported to other third-party classified sites.

I was only dealing with Fahad (Project Lead).

I came across Fahad on Upwork. He had some similar projects that he completed and seemed to have the most expertise.

I would say it’s their experience with HTML5 and SVG Canvas applications. They’re probably one of the best companies doing that.

No, they don’t. We were happy with them and we would definitely use them again.

Make sure to do research beforehand. Look at other example apps, know the functionality of what you want to add, and maybe have some rough mock-ups. Additionally, ask for sample apps because they may already have some existing functionalities they’ve already mastered, so you don’t have to do it from scratch.
