It allows restaurants, hotels, bars and hospitality groups to import existing menus from websites, PDFs or images, manage pricing, descriptions, dietary information and imagery, and prepare that content for distribution across websites, Google Business Profile, printed menus and, over time, platforms such as Uber Eats, DoorDash, me&u, Lightspeed and Square. The goal is simple: make one update in OneMenu and keep menu information accurate and consistent everywhere it appears.

Techne was engaged to design, develop and deliver a commercially ready SaaS platform for OneMenu Software, providing hospitality venues with a centralised system to create, manage and publish menu information across multiple customer-facing channels. The scope included both the customer-facing application and administration functionality required to operate OneMenu as a scalable subscription-based software product.

Key deliverables included:

Development of the complete OneMenu web application and administration portal.

A centralised menu management system allowing venues to create and manage multiple menus, categories, items, descriptions, pricing, dietary information and other menu content.

Google Business Profile integration allowing menu information to be published in structured text format.

Google Business Profile image publishing functionality, which was subsequently commissioned as an additional paid development item. 

Website integration allowing venue menu information managed within OneMenu to be published directly to the venue’s website.

A professional printable menu solution, originally scoped through Canva integration, enabling venues to create branded, print-ready menus from the same information held within OneMenu.

Following the abandonment of the proposed Canva integration, development of an equivalent in-platform menu creation/template solution intended to achieve the same commercial outcome.

Venue branding functionality, including logos and venue-specific presentation of printable menu outputs.

Multi-venue capability suitable for hospitality operators managing more than one location.

User account, venue administration and access-management functionality.

Development of a user experience suitable for non-technical hospitality operators to manage their menus without requiring ongoing developer assistance.

Testing, bug resolution and quality assurance necessary to provide a stable and commercially usable product.

Delivery of a platform capable of being launched to market, onboarding paying hospitality venues and supporting OneMenu’s subscription-based business model.

Complete ownership and handover of the developed product, including source code, repositories, documentation, credentials, integrations and other technical assets required for OneMenu to maintain and continue developing the platform independently.

The overarching objective was not simply to produce functioning software components, but to deliver a commercially viable and market-ready OneMenu product that could be launched to hospitality venues and perform the core proposition represented throughout the project: allowing a venue to manage its menu information from one central source and distribute that information across Google, its website and professionally presented printable menus.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Development of the core OneMenu application and administration portal.
• Completion of the central menu management framework, allowing menu categories, items, descriptions, pricing and other menu data to be entered and managed within the platform.
• Development of Google Business Profile structured menu publishing functionality.
• Development of Google Business Profile menu image functionality, which was commissioned and paid for as an additional development item.
• Creation of user account and venue administration functionality.
• Development of the initial multi-menu structure within individual venue accounts.
• Development of printable menu templates within the application following the decision not to proceed with the originally proposed Canva integration.
• Development of a website publishing/output function, although the delivered format did not meet the expected HTML-based commercial outcome.
• Multiple rounds of user testing, product review, bug identification and feedback throughout the development period.
• Progression of the product from an initial concept and specification into a functioning software application capable of demonstrating a number of the intended workflows.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Project management was one of the most challenging aspects of our engagement with Techne.

While there were periods of productive communication and development progress, the project ultimately ran approximately three months beyond the original delivery timeframe, with a number of revised completion dates also not being met.

As the project progressed, I increasingly felt that I was required to drive momentum, follow up on outstanding items and repeatedly clarify the commercial outcome we were trying to achieve.

Key functionality changed during development, including the abandonment of the originally proposed Canva integration, and although I was willing to work collaboratively on alternative solutions, those changes contributed to delays and ultimately did not deliver an equivalent outcome.

I raised concerns directly with Gordon and the Techne team throughout the development process, including in writing on 22 May 2026, when I specifically questioned whether we were aligned on what was being delivered and outlined a number of shortcomings that still needed to be addressed.

They did not respond to feedback and made attempts to resolve individual issues, however the broader pattern was one of missed timelines, changing technical solutions and incomplete deliverables.

Toward the end of the engagement, the focus increasingly shifted toward payment of outstanding invoices despite my concerns that the product was not yet commercially ready.

Overall, while the team demonstrated the ability to build elements of the platform, I did not consider the project to be managed with the level of structure, accountability, or proactive communication required for a development project of this scale and investment.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Techne HQ could have done differently?

The biggest areas for improvement would be project management, transparency and accountability around deliverables.

Techne could have provided clearer milestone reporting, more realistic timelines and earlier escalation when technical approaches were not going to achieve the agreed outcome.

Where major scope changes occurred, such as the move away from Canva integration, I believe there should have been a more formal reassessment of what could realistically be delivered, how long it would take and whether the alternative solution would provide an equivalent commercial result.

Communication also became increasingly reactive rather than proactive. I often felt responsible for driving follow-up, clarifying priorities and pushing the project toward completion.

Toward the end of the engagement, a greater focus on resolving outstanding functionality before pursuing final payment would have helped preserve trust and potentially avoided the current dispute.

Ultimately, Techne would have benefited from treating commercial readiness as the primary measure of completion, rather than focusing on whether individual technical components had been built.

I approached Techne in regards to building a website for us. This started with doing a discovery meeting to work out our goals and how to proceed. 
From there Techne got to work on early designs keeping us in the loop and checking in to make sure that we're happy with the direction that it was heading. Once we were happy our content started to get added in, also including any changes that we may want to implement on the way. This was all completed very fast and to a very high standard, allowing us to start marketing before we opened up.

• A clickable Figma prototype that enabled confident handover to development and alignment across founders, designers, and engineers.
• Finalised technical assumptions and architecture inputs, removing unknowns ahead of development and allowing a firm build start date to be locked in.
• An itemised scope with feature breakdowns, timelines, and cost estimates, enabling accurate budgeting and investor conversations.
• Faster internal decision-making, with clear MVP priorities agreed and non-essential features consciously deferred.
  
  Overall, the work materially de-risked the build phase, shortened the path to development, and gave the business confidence to proceed with execution.

What stood out most was their honesty and clarity. Gordon was upfront about gaps, risks, and unknowns early, which built trust and avoided wasted time or false confidence.

There aren’t any meaningful areas for improvement. The experience was smooth, collaborative, and well run from start to finish.

If anything, the process reinforced the value of doing proper discovery and scoping upfront, which Techne handled well and made the rest of the journey easier.

Techne. has built three connected software solutions for us: a mobile app and two web portals. The team has created the UI screens and developed the prototypes. We’ve had two free 30-minute Q&As to outline everything about the app. Then, we’ve had four in-depth meetings to discuss every possible outcome, feature, and requirement for the app.

After that, Techne. has built everything. I’ve provided some UI screens, and the team has developed the software and added a little bit more to it. For example, if a user is looking for a gym trainer, they can log into the app and see all the gyms in the area. The user can purchase a three-day or one-week pass through the app, which connects to the gym’s server.

We had already worked with another company to build our application's MVP. We wanted to take those ideas and concepts to produce a product that could be available to the public. Techne. has changed the original MVP because some of the modeling didn't fit what was viable. The team has explained these changes to us since we aren't technical professionals. 

Techne. primarily focuses on app development and continues to communicate different ideas and tools that can be built into the app. The team also suggests marketing strategies we can consider for continued app development in the future. Techne. has developed the app for iOS and Android devices and is looking into launching it for iPad and integrating AI features. The team is working on the backend to learn which things need to be adjusted when we request this work.

Techne. is available 24 hours a day. We've sent emails at strange times, and the team responds to us quickly. We've even had to stop Techne. at times because they wanted to start working on our idea, and we asked them to discuss it first. Techne. is ready to get in and help us achieve success. We communicate with Gordon via email and text messages and with the lead developer via Slack.

Techne.'s most impressive quality is their passion for our business. Techne. isn't a development company that takes money and executes what we ask; they're genuinely invested in the business and team they're working with. Techne. works with us instead of working for us. 

Additionally, when I don't understand something or have a unique idea, I can call Techne. without fear of being judged, and the team explains it down to the smallest level. I trust that Techne. has my back, and I'd trust them with my children.

In the initial discovery meeting, Gordon's ability to understand, conceptualise, and strategise our vision in such a short time frame was outstanding. In the beginning stages of the project, working very closely with Gordon and his team to review, design, challenge, and validate concepts, product features, and functionality was highly successful, enjoyable, and timely (the efficiency of the work completed exceeded our expectations). 

The final design (UX/UI) of the application is fantastic, and it has also exceeded our expectations. Gordon went above and beyond to deliver on all services, ensuring we were always satisfied with the outcome. He was always happy to make any changes or additional requests that we had.

• Firstly what was developed, did it match the design and brief supplied during the initial meetings. Answer is a resounding yes. Not only did it match but exceeded the desired outcome.
