Taller Technologies Argentina

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We provide a couple of products, chief among them being a solution aimed at managing residential Wi-Fi in order to optimize it, resolve issues, and offer diagnostics to service providers. Our company is located in Redwood City, California.

What is your position?

I am the vice president of engineering.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with Taller Technologies?

Part of our solution includes a mobile app. We needed development resources for it.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

We already had an application on the market. The development for it was moved to Taller. They made some maintenance releases as well as a major upgrade. Taller Technologies provided development for both the iOS and the Android version of our app. Our team has varied in size during the course of two years. At its peak, it consisted of 18 to 19 developers. We're currently down to nine.

How did you come to work with Taller Technologies?

We surveyed different mobile app developers in Argentina. We had some phone conversations and narrowed our choice to a list of four companies in Cordoba. We went there and had face-to-face interviews, from which we selected Taller.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in February 2014. The last major release for our app was seven months ago [August 2015].

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

The quality of their work has always been good.

How did Taller Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

I'm very happy with their team. Taller Technologies employ an agile scrum development process. Our local team directs the work, setting priorities and making decisions at both the development and feature implementation level.

I enjoyed working with an Argentinean team, compared to other companies in Europe and Asia. The time zone difference is much more usable. There's a significant overlap between our workdays.

What distinguishes Taller Technologies from other providers?

Aside from the quality of their work, their scrum masters who were assigned to us were quite phenomenal. They helped tremendously with the development process. They're very much on top of what we're trying to accomplish within a particular release in terms of functional goals and the technology behind them. They're very good at creating tickets and getting the work done.

Is there anything Taller Technologies could have improved or done differently?

Not really. We ran into some trouble six months into development because their coders were starting to get poached by Intel, which was setting up operations in the area. Taller Technologies worked hard in order to stabilize the situation, getting their assistant team to work for us. This is more due to market conditions than a fault of Taller’s.
