As I was just establishing a new practice in Brazil, I needed an expert to assist me in determining the best positioning for our offerings in the investigations and compliance space. What did we want to stand for in the minds of our audience, and how could we carve out messaging that was distinct from our competitors? This is what Jaclyn helped us to do. 

After conducting interviews with internal and external stakeholders, she presented us with several compelling positioning statements, of which we selected the most relevant for our service offerings. She then assisted with developing messaging that tied back to our positioning, allowing our offering to stand out uniquely in a crowded marketplace. 

Once we’d aligned and developed our positioning and messaging, her designers worked within the parameters of our firm’s brand guidelines and created several new marketing assets and a pitch deck, which we still use today. The format within which they build the templates lent themselves to easy editing, while maintaining a beautiful design on which our clients still remark.

The key outcome of this project is that our positioning in the market is completely unique. This has enabled us to compete aggressively and win consistently.

Our first store was started and run by our founder as a passion project in Memphis, TN. She was not prepared for just how well-received it would be. Only a couple years later, we already had over 20 locations, with plans of several more, and it was becoming difficult to maintain consistency across them, especially because staff is trained by a third party. 

We hired Bruno and his team to help us to be able to scale as a brand. They helped developed language that we could use consistently at all the locations, and across our social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Additionally, they helped us develop what we called a “visual language”, which helped guide how we decorated and laid out our stores, colors, fonts, and more. 

Although there’s still more work to be done, we feel that we already have a more solid foundation to grow. And especially now, that we’re at over 35 stores across 13 states, with another dozen on the way, having this foundation is not only extremely helpful, but gives us some peace of mind, as well.

The most important outcome has been that there is now a unified feel to our stores across all of our locations. Since the owners can’t be at every location at once, it’s important for our displays and even our staff to be communicating consistently to potential customers. And now, we’re also updating our Shopify to look cohesive with our physical locations.

Taillight was the first agency we ever worked with, so while it’s difficult to compare to others, we were extremely happy with how they worked. Razors Sharp Cuts was a small business founded in 2011near Downtown Denver, Co.Through word of mouth, referrals, and high scoring reviews online the business quickly evolved to the point where we had more business than we could accommodate in our space. A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to move into a much larger premium retail location in Capital Hill. 

I had asked Bruno-who I had worked with before-and his team to help update the brand so that our identity would align with our new space. Over the course of about 4 months, the team helped us enhance the brand by updating our logo, creating a color palette, and just simplify the name to just "Razor's". They, alongside another developer, also helped design and create a very simple, easy-to-navigate website that would allow online bookings and payments.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We now have a space about 4X larger than our original location, with completely different ambiance, and a larger product focus. We are now often booked out weeks in advance. While I'm sure this wasn't all the team's work, I couldn't have achieved this without them.

Deliverables included two presentations of name options, a final name, legal and linguistic checks, logo, color palette, typography, and a style guide explaining it all.

We started our lab as a response after pivoting from owning a brewing in Colorado to supporting an industry that needs outsourced lab services. Soon, we were helping many of our industry colleagues, using our lab to help them work out issues that were plaguing their batches. Next thing we knew, we were servicing clients all over the US. 

As our lab grew, we hired Bruno and his team to help us update how we were speaking to our prospective customers and partners. The team helped us update our company’s identity, articulate our positioning, including with externalized key messaging, and outline strategies for growth and recruitment, as it relates to brand.

Especially since our work with the Taillight team, we have experienced extremely fast growth, which has included major labs and other partners engaging us. I don’t think our success would have been impactful or far-reaching without this work.

Our firm, which started with just the two founding partners, experienced incredible growth over the last few years. As we brought on additional staff, and added locations throughout New York, we needed to create a new visual identity for the firm that would help unify all the offices and employees under a single banner. 

In order to achieve that, we had to rethink everything about how we were seen. That included a new logo for the firm, and a completely new visual identity system, including new colors, typography, and other collateral.

The project started with a comprehensive discovery phase. This included Taillight conducting desk research to grasp our work methodology and approach, coupled with in-depth audits of competitive organizations and offerings to gain a thorough understanding of the industry
landscape.

Next, we collaboratively established a brief outlining the criteria for name selection and visual identity development.

Taillight then presented two rounds of approximately 25 name options, each crafted to align with our established brief, which demonstrated a profound understanding of our needs and vision.

After selecting a legally-approved name, Taillight proceeded to develop a complete visual identity, including a distinctive logo, color palette, and typography.
