What challenge were you trying to address with Taillight?
We had developed transformative solid-state transformer technology capable of accelerating interconnection, supporting AI pulse loads, and modernizing distributed energy systems. However, our brand told a smaller story.Our visual identity felt antiquated, and our messaging leaned heavily on technical aspects. Our flagship product name, Power Router, was descriptive and increasingly vulnerable from a trademark standpoint. None of this reflected the scale of disruption we were preparing to introduce. As we positioned ourselves to challenge legacy infrastructure, we needed more than a visual update. We required a unifying strategic positioning, a scalable product architecture, and a defensible naming foundation that matched our ambition.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Taillight helped us define our brand architecture, positioning, product naming, visual identity, and website content and design. The team began by reframing our company’s role in the market. Instead of focusing on a device, our brand would articulate a new paradigm. The result was The Infinite Grid, a positioning platform that expresses our belief that power infrastructure should be intelligent, adaptive, and unconstrained by legacy bottlenecks. The Infinite Grid unified previously fragmented themes into one coherent story, anchored by four strategic pillars: As our product platform evolved, the existing Power Router name faced two challenges: it was descriptive, and it carried a significant trademark risk. Taillight led a full naming strategy process to create a scalable, protectable alternative. The result was Interport. Interport signals intelligent transfer, seamless exchange, and controlled flow between systems. It reinforces The Infinite Grid narrative while standing on stronger trademark ground. The process required navigating meaningful legal complexity. Naming pathways were developed, screened, and refined in close coordination with trademark counsel. Ultimately, we secured a more defensible naming foundation without sacrificing strategic clarity. Taillight later authored a thought leadership article reflecting on the broader naming and trademark implications encountered during the process, reinforcing the importance of protectability in high-growth technology brands. With Interport established as the core platform, Taillight built a scalable product architecture designed to support tiered performance models, future releases, and adjacent innovations. The architecture ensures that each product reinforces the master brand rather than diluting it. Clear hierarchy and disciplined nomenclature position us for long-term expansion. The team refined our visual identity system to reflect precision, intelligence, and engineered rigor. Geometric structures, disciplined typography, and a controlled palette mirrored the modular logic of the technology itself. The verbal system shifted away from feature language toward infrastructure transformation. Messaging now speaks to enabling capacity, resilience, and adaptability at scale. Taillight restructured our website’s information architecture, redesigned the homepage narrative flow, and developed a scalable mega menu system aligned with the new positioning. In parallel, the team created a PowerPoint template system and two strategic pitch decks to support investor and enterprise conversations.

Our website traffic and LinkedIn followers doubled. We also saw double- to triple-digit growth across all metrics, including leads, media, and customer contacts. We are in the process of launching a flagship offering that we wanted to emphasize as something special and different. To that end, we wanted to create a unique brand name that would help us to elevate this offering above our typical ones.
We engaged Taillight to help us create that name. Their work started with multiple interviews of key team members involved in this particular initiative in order to outline our criteria for name creation, including preferences, and styles to explore.
Taillight then created hundreds of candidates, conducted some preliminary legal checks, and presented the best options to the full team, ultimately leading to the selection of a final name.

Although this offering hasn’t publicly launched yet, there has been widespread acceptance and adoption of the name throughout the organization, which, especially for a company of this size, is a great indicator of success.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the senior director of product marketing at a technology company. We're a global company with a broad portfolio of products that sits around $7 billion. We sell across many different channels and routes to market.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Taillight?
We had a very big and broad portfolio of products with different disparate names. We needed help figuring out a consistent naming architecture for all our business units and products.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Taillight provided branding and naming architecture services. We had a few legacy sub-brands that we needed to consider possibly retiring and adopting a global standard for naming. We have five business units, each with about five product lines, which can include anywhere from 10 to hundreds of products.
Taillight provided end-to-end naming services and coached us on sub-brand best practices, providing us with the tools to roll them out. The team worked on governance and decision tree documents that we could provide to our team so they could understand the guard rails. Additionally, Taillight created presentations for our CEO to articulate the strategy and get buy-in from our key decision-makers.
Overall, Taillight provided us with many presentations that we could then use to train our internal teams.
What is the team composition?
We worked with three teammates from Taillight, including Bruno (Co-Founder), Jaclyn (Co-Founder), and a consultant with a background in technology companies similar to ours.
How did you come to work with Taillight?
Our brand director researched agencies to work with, and he found Taillight, although I was on vacation at the time, so I'm unsure how he found them. The primary reason we selected Taillight was their specialty in naming, branding, and brand identity. The team wasn't a huge agency that specialized in everything; instead, they were very niche.
The case studies Taillight sent resonated with us because they showed us experience and examples of taking complex technical product sets and organizing them in a cohesive way.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with Taillight from April 2023–August 2024.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We don't have quantitative metrics to show at the time because we've just made all the decisions and now have new products. We'll start changing our product names slowly over time. Internally, when we shared the new names with our teammates, they told us they finally made sense. Prior to this, we used a lot of acronyms, some of which never stood for anything. Now, we could present the new names to our team, and they know exactly what the products do.
Our new product names set our business up for an entirely new way approach to selling. We leveraged the new name to enable selling and marketing solutions, a huge game changer for our business. None of our competitors was doing this, and we'll hands down differentiate ourselves purely based on how we name our product and how we take it to market with solutions marketing.
How did Taillight perform from a project management standpoint?
Taillight was always prompt to respond and support us. The team went above and beyond regarding project managers. We ran the project, and Taillight was the driver to make sure we stayed on the timeline that was set by us. The team was good about managing deadlines and ensuring they had deliverables on time.
Since we're a global company, we had meetings with Taillight at weird times, like 5 a.m. or 9 p.m. Taillight could jump on and have those calls with our international colleagues. We communicated via email and phone calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Taillight had a very focused expertise. I had worked with other agencies and hadn't met one that operated like TailLight. Other agencies were incredibly slow, didn’t respond, missed deadlines, and didn't understand our product.
I was more than impressed when we got on the phone with Taillight's consultant, who was a partner with a technology specialty, and we could talk about our products all day long. We've found it's rare to find someone who gets our business and what we sell when working in a weird industry like ours. Taillight was also very down to earth. The team wasn't rigid like a big agency. Taillight was professional and good at their work, which appealed to us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can't think of any constructive criticism for Taillight. I had one of the best experiences.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
My only advice is to call Taillight and have a conversation with them. They're well worth the conversation and your time if you have a very focused need.
