**Teams to innovate**
**ABOUT SLASH**

Slash is a BUILD studio. We build remote, autonomous teams to help innovators develop software, products and hi-tech startups. We also build and invest in our own startups and commercialize them through joint ventures in ASEAN and Europe.

Slash has headquarters in Singapore and community-oriented R&D hubs in Cambodia and Indonesia. Some of our team work remote from different parts of Asia and Europe.

**WHY WORK WITH US?** 1)Our Build DNA focuses on providing you the product powerhouse you need to deliver. Coding easy. Building long-term remote, dedicated and autonomous teams is not. We hire, train and support for multi-disciplinary teams that work with global clients across cultures, using agile role-based workflows that are flexible enough to evolve based on project needs and team passion. 2)Raising retention by delighting developers: Happy engineers make great employees. Our Slash villages are built to support your teams with remote-enabled workspaces and premium features - not to mention learning and development opportunities to help them grow. 3)Tech learning communities: finding and hiring great engineers is half the equation. We’ve cultivated a supportive community that welcomes new teams and connects them to the local tech ecosystem, with regular speakers, events and mentors.

**The Review** — Sep 19, 2024

**Feedback Summary**: Unfortunately, Slash's efforts didn't pay off, but the client was satisfied with their work. The team was very hands-on, accessible, responsive, and active. They communicated effectively through Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Moreover, they had and followed a well-thought-out process.
""The entire process from Slash's side was very thought-through.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I'm the founder and CEO of a healthcare company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?I worked with Slash for hiring and HR support purposes.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? We hired Slash to help us fill the position of senior operations manager within our company. For this project, I gave them the profile and job description. Then, I discussed this project with their team, and they helped me refine the job description. After that, we went through an extensive Q&A to determine the profile of the candidate we were looking for and the tasks and duties they should take over.Slash then looked into their existing CVs and found additional profiles throughout the whole area of Indonesia. When Slash identified the first couple of candidates, they conducted the first two calls with those candidates and sent me a report.Their approach prevented me from having to spend my own time going through the interview process with each and every candidate. I only joined the third call after getting a very in-depth profile and comments about each candidate Slash had interviewed and analyzed. What is the team composition?I worked with two teammates from Slash, including Maria (Head of People & Senior Consultant). How did you come to work with Slash?I basically met them through word of mouth. I met one of the founders and former executives of Slash. However, this person then took over another startup in Jakarta. Still, I decided to work with Slash due to the fact that I already knew one of their founders. How much have you invested with them?We spent around $5,500.What is the status of this engagement? We worked together from February–May 2023. My original goal was to hire a candidate by April 2023, but the actual hiring was postponed until May 2023.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Slash initially offered mentorship for the candidate we would be hiring. However, their mentorship efforts didn't really pay off, and we had to get rid of the candidate in August 2023. This person only worked with us for three weeks. Still, we also had to downscale our operational team anyway, so this wasn't necessarily Slash's fault. It was a commercial decision I had to take for the company.Something that wasn't great was that, although the headcount was performing well, the candidate couldn't keep up being a leader throughout the entire process. I still wouldn't blame Slash for that. I would rather blame my co-founder, who didn't give them enough authority nor was more involved in the day-to-day operations than I was.How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint? We communicated through Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. We also had a communication channel to go through the candidates' CVs and reports. Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?Maria did a really great job. She was very hands-on, always accessible, very responsive, and very active. She did a great job of preparing all the materials for the process. Everything she set up was very thought-through.What did you find most impressive about them? The entire process from Slash's side was very thought-through. From writing the right job description to identifying prospects, pretesting them, and analyzing the process around it, everything was quite well done. Are there any areas they could improve? It would be great if Slash extended their search for prospects. They relied quite a lot on the prospects who were in their database already, which wasn't ideal. Slash could have increased the effort in looking for additional people who would be a good fit for the role.Do you have any advice for potential customers?I don't have any particular advice.

**The Review** — Sep 20, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: The user acceptance testing was successful, demonstrating the quality of the product built by Slash. The team was communicative, transparent, and responsive, and their project management was great. Additionally, their documentation was excellent, allowing the client to take over the product easily.
"“Slash documentation processes were outstanding; everything was well-documented.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the chief product and technology officer (CPTO) of PERSOL Asia Pacific, a regional staffing and recruiting company. We have a presence in 13 countries, including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. As CPTO, I look after our company’s technology side.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

Like other recruiting companies, we get job opening requirements from our clients, and our goal is to find the best candidates to present to them. Then, if a client hires one of the candidates, we get a success fee. However, this work is traditionally done manually; recruiters get the job descriptions, post the opening, wait for candidates to apply, and go through every CV to find the best matches.

Therefore, we initiated a development project with Slash’s help to automate the recruiting process and generate the best-matched candidates based on their résumé information, comparing it to the information in job descriptions. Our ultimate goal was to create a custom software piece that could go through the list of thousands of candidates in our database and automatically pick the best candidates based on the job description.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Slash helped us come up with a cloud-based web application to automate our recruiting process. The project started with a discovery phase, after which we engaged with their product manager and UX designer to come up with the high-level product design and the UX/UI design. Once we finished the design phase, we worked closely with their team on the development phase. Recently, we delivered the final product.

As for the technology stack, we used React, PostgreSQL, Lambda functions, and a combination of an external AI matching service and an API integration with Bullhorn. The app takes the job description information from our Bullhorn system, extracts the job description, and uses the third-party AI matching service to come up with a list of the best candidates for the job, which then displays on our screen.

What is the team composition?

We worked with three people from Slash’s team, including a chief product officer (CPO), a product manager, and a UI/UX designer.

How did you come to work with Slash?

We found them through LinkedIn. We decided to work with them after the initial discussion with their team. On the call, we met their CEO, their CPO, and a salesperson, and we felt they were capable.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $100,000–$250,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started talking with them in January 2022, signed the contract in February 2022, went through the discovery phase from February–April 2022, and finished the product in September 2022. Now, we’re in a maintenance stage for the next three months in case there are bugs or issues to fix.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After finishing the product, we did user acceptance testing, and the results were successful; that’s how we evaluated the product’s quality.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

Slash’s project management was very good. Even though we had a month and a half delay from our original intended schedule, we were both to blame. They were too optimistic with their estimation, and we took extra time to clarify some requirements.

We had biweekly meetings to review our sprints, during which Slash showed us demos of what they had worked on during the past sprint. They always documented everything on Confluence, which allowed our development team to take over the code base once the product was finished. We also used Jira for project management and Slack and Google Meet for communication. Their team was very responsive over Slack, and their responses were very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Slash documentation processes were outstanding; everything was well-documented.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Slash’s estimates were too optimistic. It would have been better if we had more accurate estimates, but I know that software development projects tend to exceed the original budget and timeline, so it was not an issue.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Assign a technical person from your team to lead the project; it will be better than assigning a business person who might not understand much about technology.

"“We appreciate that Slash acts as a trusted advisor.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m an executive at a lifestyle business. We deal with food and beverage, wellness, supermarkets, and organic produce, and our wellness businesses are all over the world.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We were addressing the need for a digital app that would allow our clients to engage with our wellness product no matter where they were.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Slash has been engaged in our digital wellness app's research, design, and build. For the research, they looked at what else was available in the market. We collaborated with them through the ideation and conceptualization phase. They led a team of people on my side who had little digital expertise and helped guide and educate us. Then, they helped us conceptualize and deliver the product our clients needed. They've developed the app for both Android and iOS.

What is the team composition?

We work with a large team from Slash, including a project manager.

How did you come to work with Slash?

Another business unit in our company recommended them to us. We went with Slash because they were trusted partners and advisors. They did more than simply respond to a request for application; they guided us through the process and told us what would be required and what our staff would need to do.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between 250,000–750,000 Singapore dollars (approximately $181,000–$545,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in Q4 2020. Our engagement is ending at the end of this month.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Slash has delivered what they said they would, and they’re always collaborative and helpful. Throughout the project, we’ve learned from the team and placed a lot of trust in them to work with us in an advisory and a design capacity. I would have no concern recommending them to others.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve managed the project well using Jira and delivered it on time. We had a very open communication channel; they communicated with me via email and phone calls and used a variety of other channels with the rest of my team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We appreciate that Slash acts as a trusted advisor. They’ve provided consultancy whether or not it benefitted them. Moreover, the team has managed to navigate our complex environment while building good relationships throughout our firm.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’ve done a fantastic job.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Slash is the right company for you if you’re looking for a truly collaborative partner that will truly integrate themselves into your organization, team, requirements, and complexities.

**The Review** — Apr 21, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: The client praised Slash's collaborative dynamic and ability to resolve issues with agility. The team implemented an asynchronous approach to the development, and internal stakeholders were particularly impressed with their strategic and critical thinking abilities.
""We believed they can deliver the level of complexity and credibility in the development of our mobile app and API.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of COMO Club, an organization with a portfolio of services that includes hospitality, wellness, dining, fashion, travel, and retail.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We were looking to modernize our recognition program through technological implications.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Slash developed our customer-facing mobile app that’s integrated with a backend loyalty system. They also implemented the APIs and it’s both available for the Android and iOS platforms.

We started with an initial discovery phase to identify our needs and requirements but even though we agreed on a set scope for the project, we kept our development flexible as there were other opportunities to improve upon the process.

What is the team composition?

We worked with about 8–10 people from their team at different stages of the project.

How did you come to work with Slash?

They were recommended to us by a previous agency and we decided to hire them because we believed they can deliver the level of complexity and credibility in the development of our mobile app and API.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent over $500,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from June 2020–November 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We measured the success of the project based on their strategic and critical feedback, team dynamics, and agility to resolve our issues.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

There will always be changes in the development process, as we ended up discovering newer tasks that needed to be done. In that regard, I would give them an 8 out of 10 for being flexible in adapting to the process.

We implemented an asynchronous style of working and we typically communicated through real-time collaboration tools such as JIRA.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed with their strategic and critical thinking abilities.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There were instances in the project where different clashing ideas would cause friction between team members, so I would suggest addressing this type of thing before starting the engagement.

Another thing they need to improve on is implementing a buffer to anticipate any issues within the project so they can consistently meet their deadlines.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise you to have someone on your internal team that can review Slash’s work on a coding level, to ensure its consistency and quality.

**The Review** — May 27, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Implementing multiple versions of the solution to address end-user feedback, Slash performed well during the engagement. Their team overcame some early project management issues by appointing a single project manager. The firms communicated via Slack, Jira, and WhatsApp.
""The team was connected with the vision and motivated in their work."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the managing director of ASA Advisory Services. We are an innovation consultancy based in Singapore. We help organizations with their product management services and customer service in order to enable them to become more innovative in their operations.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We needed help building a platform.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

The platform adds value to our innovaiton- and agility-focused training programs. We did a scoping workshop to identify the product vision, intended user experience, goals, and expectations. They then developed the AWS-based platform using wireframes we provided to them. The backend content management system was built in Ruby on Rails. They also developed native mobile apps for Android and iOS as companions to the platform.

What is the team composition?

Andries (Partner & CEO) and Marc (Partner & Chief Product Officer) were my main contacts. The team fluctuated, with at least 5-6 people working on the project.

How did you come to work with Slash?

I know Andries personally. When I shared my vision with him, he liked it and joined the company as a co-founder.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $150,000–$200,000 with them. The first version of the solution was built in exchange for equity.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February 2019–October 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Across the several versions of the platform we've released, the main metric we've tracked is end-user feedback. We are on the third version now, having made changes in response to the feedback we received.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

We were interacting with too many members of their team at the start of the engagement. However, communication improved once we established a project manager. We had weekly meetings and collaborated via Slack, Jira, and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team was connected with the vision and motivated in their work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They need to continue to mature as a company. They’re a young agency that has used what they've learned to improve how they operate. For example, this project suffered from a lack of efficiency early on due to the communication problems we faced. However, they were able to augment their operations and rectify the issues by appointing a project manager.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Before involving any developers, take as much time as you need to properly plan out your process. Make sure your team has a clear understanding of the product vision and what you want to build.

**Feedback Summary**: Slash leads a solid process, working closely with the internal team to make sure everything is delivered in form and on time. They are straightforward, friendly, and collaborative. They have accomplished all the goals and requirements set by the client.
"“We're very happy to work with them — we want to continue working with them.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO and co-founder of Clik. We are a data-driven payment aggregator and enabler.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

Slash works with us on the first iteration of a know your client (KYC) system where they are developing some algorithms for fraud detection in terms of document tampering and liveness detection.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Slash develops algorithms and the system that receives pictures of photo ID. Then it processes them automatically with a result analysis for evaluating if the file was tampered with or not. They also work on the integration of the app with our platform. There was some architecture and liveness detection work also done on the platform.

What is the team composition?

We have a team of 2–3 Slash team members working with us.

How did you come to work with Slash?

I met Andries (CEO) a few years ago at a conference where we were both speakers on a panel, and we started speaking to each other about our respective businesses. I found Slash interesting mainly because AI and machine learning services in Cambodia are very difficult to find. He had a team for that, so it made sense for us, if we wanted to move fast, to outsource our work with a team that had the skills. That’s how we became partners for this project.

90How much have you invested with them?

We have invested somewhere between $60,000–$80,000 on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working around December 2018, and it’s an ongoing partnership.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our main purpose is building the app and getting to a level of accuracy that is adequate for a commercial service. Another metric we take into consideration is its percentage level of accuracy. We look at different ways to trick the system and make sure that the algorithms mark the information as false. Slash has achieved our metrics without trouble.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate using Slack and Microsoft Teams. We have a good experience working with Slash, and we’ve managed to do things on time. There have been some delays but it was reasonable. Everything has worked out pretty well considering the challenge.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It is a pleasure working with Slash. Our team likes working with them and since we're both in the same city, the teams can communicate very easily. Their team can come to our office, and we would go to their office. It is a collaborative effort — we want to continue working with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everyone can improve on getting things done according to time. This is difficult to control because we're developing things that are pretty new. We always have unforeseen challenges which take more time to sort out. These things send us back to the drawing board a few times when it comes to finding the right kind of algorithm to get proper results.

Any advice for potential customers?

Try to have a direct line with Slash’s team. That has made it very easy to make decisions and compromises on different things. One of their best assets is they actually do care about the project, and they’re proactive at trying to find solutions and making sure that things get done.

The team is always committed to delivering their client's needs, ensuring a fruitful and continued collaboration.
""Slash has always been incredibly supportive of our business needs."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and founder of 360Wellness. We’re a software company that built an online wellness marketplace for fitness and wellness enthusiasts and professionals.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We needed their team to help us design and develop our MVP.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

When we started this project back in 2019, I wrote down all the product specifications and the vision that I wanted to portray through our MVP. I relayed everything to Slash, so they can picture the product that I wanted them to build. They were involved in the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation phases of our tech products.

Slash improved the overall look and feel of our products, focusing on UX design. Their software engineers also helped us build and implement our new Android- and iOS-enabled mobile application, which we recently launched in the US market. They developed the entire platform, utilizing Agile Infrastructure to implement the necessary tech solutions.

Their executive team continues to support us by providing business growth strategies and advice on startup corporate structuring.

What is the team composition?

We initially onboarded four of Slash’s full-stack developers and two infrastructure architects, before ramping it up to a total of eight software engineers. Andrius (CEO) and Mark (CPO) are actively involved in building and launching innovative tech solutions for our business.

How did you come to work with Slash?

I actively looked for a tech agency to support our development needs, interviewing over 25 teams across Asia. Slash was part of the top three agencies I shortlisted — after going over their promising project proposal, I finally decided to choose their team as our tech partner.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $200,000–$300,000 SGD (approximately $151,000–$226,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in January 2020, and our partnership is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve surpassed 5,000 downloads during our product's beta phase. In addition to having been nominated as World Wellness Summit’s App of the Year, which will take place in Singapore next year, our app has averaged 4.8 and 5-star ratings on Android and iOS, respectively. We’re a bootstrapped startup, so obtaining this nomination through Slash’s efforts is a huge deal to us.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira as our main project management tool. While I always want everything to progress faster, I understand that it takes time to create a great product. Slash has been highly cooperative and transparent in meeting deadlines and providing project updates.

We’ve established an effective working relationship that allows us to get to a middle ground whenever there are delayed timelines due to unmet requirements. It’s impossible and ambitious to build and launch an app within two months, but we’ve been happily coordinating with their team to meet our sales goals.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s their impressive level of understanding and communication — I honestly feel like they are an extension of our company’s internal IT team. Slash has always been incredibly supportive of our business needs, so it’s always an easy decision to renew our partnership with their agency.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could focus on speeding up their workflow, as we always prefer our products to be built faster. However, I understand that app development is a tedious process, and I highly appreciate the fact that Slash cooperates well with us to deliver our needs.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

There couldn't be a better tech partner than Slash, so you have to be a committed partner to their team as well— be willing to make certain compromises and listen to their suggestions. Once you create this working relationship with their team, they’ll be able to deliver your design and development needs more efficiently.

**The Review** — May 7, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Slash’s team had a strong work ethic and offered a systematic approach. The app was engaging, and it has been attracting more users. However, the client had to end the engagement before completion, and now the app is facing minor issues. Clients can expect a savvy and communicative partner.
"“They have the knowledge and are adept at client service.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder of Talentora, a mobile app that connects talent with hirers in the media and entertainment industry.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We hired Slash to rebuild a completely new app for the company. The previous app was poorly built by the previous developers, so I suggested rebuilding the entire app again.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Slash built a mobile app with a new backend function for us. The app was built for both iOS and Android systems. I had my own designers, so we provided the designs and the technical documentation, and they were in charge of the development.

What is the team composition?

We worked with three people from Slash on this project: Andries (Partner & CEO), Henry (Product Engineer & Principal Developer), and one more person. One was a backend engineer, one was a frontend engineer, and Andries was the product manager. He reported to me.

How did you come to work with Slash?

We had an investor who knew Andries and his company, and he recommended them to us.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $40,000 SGD (approximately $30,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2017–November 2018.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Slash’s work ethic was good, and their processes were systematic. Back in 2018, we reached the 5,000 users range, and the app was stable. However, we ran out of money, and we had to end our engagement with Slash.

They informed us that the app was not built to scale up and the architecture wasn’t completely built. They warned us that it would cause a problem in the future when we had a ton more users. What Slash told us, happened, and we’re currently experiencing problems with the app. We have a lot more users joining, and the app doesn’t perform as fast as it should.

We can’t blame Slash’s work for these issues because they did warn us, but we had to end our engagement nonetheless. Since then, we’ve engaged with a new set of developers to carry on Slash’s work.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

The project was managed well. We had weekly calls on Fridays to follow through on what had been done in the week and what were the goals for the next week. We also had a daily check in on Trello, where I could monitor and see what was happening.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I found Slash to be the best developers’ team at some point because they knew what they were doing. They did walk the talk in terms of product development and communication, and our engagement was strong. They were great.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Slash’s pricing was quite expensive compared to their competitors.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Slash is a great team to work with, and they offer open communication. They have the knowledge and are adept at client service.

Founder & CEO, TripTax
- Industry: Financial services

**The Review** — Apr 29, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Slash has developed an app that is compliant with government regulations, therefore allowing the client to operate and provide services. Their project management is timely and efficient. The team has a highly adaptive process and accommodates all modifications that need to be made.
""The Slash team’s flexibility is impressive."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the founder and CEO of a digital tourist tax refund provider.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We needed support on the technology side of our company to provide our services via our app and to ensure that we meet the requirements established by different parties. We hired Slash to work on our app’s back- and frontend as well as on our collaboration with blockchain technology companies.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

The Native mobile app is being developed for Android and iOS. It has many interesting features such as biometric checking, automated tax forms and invoice generation, and automatic linking to government servers. There is also a web app that we are devoting to management and backend administration.

What is the team composition?

I work with 5–6 people from Slash but communicate mainly with the tech lead.

How did you come to work with Slash?

Slash has offices in different countries including Singapore, where we are based. We thought that them having a local presence would make working together very convenient. Being able to visit their team personally is very important for us and is one of the main reasons why we chose to collaborate with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested Close to half a million dollars.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in September 2019 and it is an ongoing project.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The high-quality technology that Slash has helped develop has been audited and approved by the government. This allows us to operate and provide our services.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

They have been very good at project management. We communicate via a Slack channel and it has proven to be pretty fast and efficient.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The Slash team’s flexibility is impressive. In our experience, other service providers tended to have very strict processes. Since our project is complex and subject to many changes based on government regulations, it’s important that we work with a company like Slash. They’re open to constantly making modifications.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could have more resources. There are times when we need to speed up processes which is impossible to do without new developers. It would help if they had more people available.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as transparent as possible in terms of your needs and expectations.

#### Web & Mobile Development for Social Platform
**The Project**

**Project Summary**: Slash provides web and mobile app development services for an internet company. The team is building a platform where users can trade services, goods, volunteer work, and knowledge using time as a currency.

Founder & CEO, Hourvillage Pte. Ltd.
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 11-50 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview

**The Review** — Apr 28, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: Slash's team has developed an exceptionally strong partnership with the client. They've been completely committed to the project's success and have been involved in every step of the process. They are highly skilled and provide top-notch services effectively. Communication is also well-established.
""The team doesn’t just build the app. They think about the business side and the future of the project."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder and CEO of Hourvillage, a private limited Singapore-based company. Hourvillage is a social equalizing platform where people can spend hour credits on services, knowledge, volunteer work, or errands.

On Hourvillage, time is the currency. For example, if a person wants to volunteer his or her time for a cause or a charity, the app shows different sectors to choose from. It could be helping animals, children, the elderly, or women causes. Hourvillage identifies where and when charity events are held and then the user can subscribe to these and attend them. For the time spent on these events, the app will then give the user time credits that can be redeemed for rewards, like a cup of coffee or a meal. Users can also acquire services offered by other members on the platform.

The beauty of this project is the social equalizer aspect. Hour credits are the same for everyone. The person’s gender, background, wealth, social status, or education doesn’t matter.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We hired them to build our mobile application and the desktop version for corporations.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

First, Slash helped us clarify our business model and figure out the target audience. The team then designed the app in about 3–4 months and built it in four months.

What is the team composition?

We've worked with 8–10 people. We collaborate with the two founders, 2–3 members from the app team that work full time, 2–3 developers, and UI staff.

How did you come to work with Slash?

We met Slash through mutual friends in the IT industry in Singapore. I chose Slash over other competitors because they showed a lot of interest in the project and saw the potential to expand it on a global scale. The team decided to be paid partially in shares — this indicated that they truly believed in Hourvillage. They were extremely professional in the negotiation stage and very knowledgeable about what they were talking about.

What is the status of this engagement?

Discussions started in March 2020. The engagement officially started in August 2020, and it’s ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m confident that the prototype they’ve built is good enough to raise more money.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very good. We communicate mainly through email, Whatsapp, and several video calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We don’t have an average client and vendor relationship. They’ve been more like co-founders. This has been very important for us because the team doesn’t just build the app. They think about the business side and the future of the project. They’ve become a major shareholder of Hourvillage by building the app.

The team is also efficient and professional. I’m not a technical person, and they’ve been very patient.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything has been spot on. I’d definitely recommend them to someone else.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be honest about the business model and work with them as a partner, not just as a service provider. I’d also advise potential customers to ask questions and don’t be shy about it, so they can get the most out of the relationship.

**The Review** — Jun 30, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Though the client has moved the project internally, the engagement went smoothly with Slash. Their collaborative approach to the partnership and high-quality work were important assets. Their ability to adapt and understand the project requirements made the relationship flow easily.
""Their familial, collaborative approach was the most important thing for me."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of a payments company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Slash?

We were a startup with a good idea but we didn’t have the in-house skill sets to develop our web and mobile app. We decided to outsource our initial development.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our web and mobile app that enables the owner of a business to create and order cards for employees. They can see the transactions that those cards have made, give them management information, link it to the web and mobile app.

Slash built the backend API connectivity to multiple partners where we get transactional information. They enabled that backend transaction into the frontend design and the display of the design information to the customer.

What is the team composition?

The maximum size of the team was 10 people or slightly more. We didn’t start with a full-time dedicated project manager but as the project progressed, we then put in place a restructure of the team to have a project manager from their side full-time.

How did you come to work with Slash?

We were doing our UX/UI design out of Singapore and one of the founders of the company had a relationship with Slash so we hired them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2018–June 2020. We’re now taking it over in-house.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everything was good overall even despite the time differences between us. They understood our requirements really well and developed them. They delivered very high-quality work.

How did Slash perform from a project management standpoint?

Once we had the project manager in place, along with our own project manager, everything went really well. The last nine months have been more productive than the first nine months because we were more organized and had more staff on our side. They were responsive to changes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It wasn’t a typical client and vendor relationship; we worked in full partnership as one team together. We shared good times working together. Their familial, collaborative approach was the most important thing for me.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could have been better at pushing back at us at times when things weren’t 100% clear or when there was a misunderstanding.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Work in a collaborative, trusting way. If you trust them, they’ll trust you. We also spent some time making it clear what the product was and what we wanted to do.

## Portfolio & Awards

### Digitizing Teng Lay’s Logistics Backoffice
Teng Lay is the largest transportation company in Cambodia and a logistics conglomerate, providing services across transport & import/export, dry port management and engineering through its offices in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
Since its inception, Teng Lay’s clients worldwide rely on its expertise and operational excellence to offer the best service. Teng Lay is modernizing its operation and moving to digital.

Teng Lay needed an enterprise LMS to run their operations from the cloud. After reviewing different existing options, it decided to build their own custom solution optimized to their unique needs. It sought a tech partner that could architect, design and build a secure core logistics management system in the cloud, migrate its existing operation to the cloud and properly integrate it with SAP.
Project Highlights

Over a period of 12 months, Slash consulted Teng Lay’s leadership on the best way to achieve their LMS-SAP transformation objectives and transition. We also presented the business case and costing to move to an AWS-powered cloud.
We built a custom, modular Logistics Management System (LMS) to enable key parts of the business: quotation, billing & invoicing, clearance expenses, dry port, container flow, trucking, reporting.
We connected the custom LMS to SAP.
Slash built the web LMS in ReactJS & PHP. We used serverless technology and AWS as cloud infrastructure.

### Building Fast and Secure Tourist Tax Refund
TripWorld’s founding vision is to deliver savings, speed and simplicity to the travel experience, starting with a better tourist tax refund (VAT/GST) solution called “TripTax”.
Tourist-tax refunds (VAT/GST) are time-consuming due to long queues and paperwork, involve expensive FX transactions and are subject to high commission (up to 43% by market leaders!).
TripTax empowers merchants (tax agents) and tourists to handle the tax refund digitally and without the need to queue at the airport.
To realize this vision, TripWorld sought a technical co-founder to challenge, design and implement TripTax and support with architecting its startup roadmap.
Project Highlights

TripTax’ technology enables a workflow where the initial tax receipt and purchase is securely digitized, an untampered proof of repatriation of the purchase is obtained and the refund can be processed by the government.
To achieve this, we use state-of-the-art AI object recognition technology in partnership with university researchers in Europe and store the transactions on a permissioned blockchain, R3 Corda.
Slash is taking on a role as the tech lead from beginning to end.
Successfully integrated with the core systems of the Ministry of Finance in France; and passed their government audit to certify the system and provide the tax agent license to TripTax.

### Leveraging AI to Make a Custom Wellness Experience
The journey began with the Slash design team digging into the core concepts of what COMO Shambhala wanted the app to be and the value it would deliver to users. The idea centered on a new approach of bringing their premium wellness content to clients wherever they are located rather than just at the hotels.
The product needed to be intuitive and tailored to each user, so the team tactfully placed subtle AI recommendations into the system. This created a blend of wellness content tailored precisely to each user’s needs and preferences. This design led to successful development of the wellness app with a back office to support it and an initial freemium monetization strategy.
Following a successful product launch, the monetization strategy was adjusted from freemium to a premium model. Although this had the potential for greater monetization, the team still needed to figure out how to increase the user base in order to continuously improve the delivered experience.
Soon after, that new strategy brought its shares of challenges.
Metrics to success
Slash jumped in to assist, helping COMO Shambhala analyze their user metrics. It was indeed identified that the onboarding (registration + paywall) was proving to be too big of a barrier for many users to overcome, mostly because they didn’t know what they were registering to or buying. As a result, user cost of acquisition remained very high. The data provided the needed information to formulate a path forward that would lead to where growth was.
After thoroughly understanding the issue, we revert back to a freemium monetization approach with some optimizations, but also to develop further back-office and marketing tools, directly integrated into the system.
Currently in the making, this will allow COMO Shambhala to launch large, wide-reaching campaigns that will be very effective at achieving the needed user growth such a fantastic digital wellness product deserves.

### Digital Banking Solutions for 65 Norwegian Banks
Not every bank has the resources to create the world-class solutions customers demand. To increase customer satisfaction and create lasting competitive advantages, many of the world’s thousands of banks need to rely on solution providers.

EedenBull is led by senior executives and veterans of the payment and banking industry who intimately understand the needs of the banks and how digital tools can benefit them today.
To execute on its startup ambitions, EedenBull sought a turnkey tech partner who could be efficient and yet flexible. Efficient in architecting and building solutions, and scaling the team, and at the same time flexible to adjust to the constant changes in the roadmap of a fast-growing startup.
Project Highlights

Over a period of almost 2 years, we developed the core banking system for EedenBull and the white-label interfaces, and supported the rollout across 65+ banks in Norway and product enhancements that followed.
We adjusted the team mix, skills and size based on the priorities (from 3 to 9 FTE).
We helped EedenBull to build and train their in-house tech team in Edinburgh (UK), and successfully handed over the core system to their team.
The solution includes the issuing of different types of corporate bank cards for SMEs, card controls, transactions, expenses, accounting, reporting, security and permissions etc.

### Building Scalable & Resilient Cloud Infrastructure
The demand for digital transformation in Cambodia has been rising, coupled with the need to reduce unnecessary upfront costs. SME Bank was looking for a tech vendor to help plan the infrastructure for a banking API gateway on AWS.
In the second half of 2022, staff from both Slash and SME Bank met at an AWS event, initiating discussions about AWS and the bank’s upcoming needs. After aligning on project goals and expectations, the teams started working together, achieving early successes with proof of concepts that tested crucial criteria such as API availability, server scalability, and web security.
However, as the project progressed, the teams recognized a knowledge gap in building the infrastructure foundation required for their envisioned architecture, which needed secure connectivity to their on-premise core system while ensuring scalability and compliance with local regulations. With a looming deadline and the urgency to implement additional app functionalities, it became clear that SME Bank needed an experienced tech partner to navigate these challenges.
This brings us back to the initial meeting at the AWS event. The engagement began with the Slash team assessing SME Bank's requirements and formulating a clear strategy for the targeted architecture. The teams aligned on implementation expectations and moved to Phase 2: implementing AWS cloud infrastructure across four environments with a defined disaster recovery plan and secure connections to on-premise APIs.
With the support and guidance from Slash, SME Bank successfully completed the project, allowing them to focus on launching new mobile and internet banking initiatives and delivering greater value to their stakeholders and customers.
