BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am a Director, Software Engineering in a large sized company. Our company provides software solutions that address water data management.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire SEYA Group?

We were moving our on-premise product to Cloud. There were several gaps on engineering team with regards to DevOps as well as Development. The deadlines were aggressive and we needed to find resources asap.

SOLUTION

How did you select this agency and what were the deciding factors?

We have tried several outsourcing companies, including the one we have been already using on another projects. After couple of weeks we started looking for other agencies. We have interviewed several companies and decided on Global Cloud Team ( the resources have moved to SEYA Group at the later stage of the project).

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

They provided several back-end, front-end, QA and DevOps resources. Initially we have 7 people joined: 3 joined existing core team and 4 formed a new Scrum team with a team lead. Later in the project team grew to 12-13 people.

Describe the recruitment process in detail.

We identified what skills we required for the project. Interviewed 9 people and hired 7. First couple interviews included technical questions and code review done by senior engineers. Later in the process SEYA Group team lead did the initial technical interviews and it saved quite a bit of time. On our side the interview was cut to 30 minutes mostly to assess communication skills and was done by a manager.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

With their support we cut the project time by 50% and got rid of large amount of tech debt including moving to newer technologies, e.g. .Net Core, multi-tenancy, containerization. They helped to implement several critical features for our existing customers as well.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Even though the developers were working remote and in a different time zone they became part of Scrum teams. They participated in daily standups, demos, code reviews, UX designs. On the some parts of the project most of the architecture design and implementation was done by SEYA group.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They provided high level professionals at a cost-effective price. The developers are hardworking individuals that care about the quality and supportability of the code. They also have been a good cultural fit.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

In the beginning of the project all code reviews were done by core team which was overwhelming and not cost-effective. Later on we have decided to add an internal code review stage to the Scrum workflow and it improved effectiveness as well as helped with knowledge sharing. In general augmentation model worked quite well for us.
