I am a Product Manager at an international original pharmaceutical company governed by a non-profit foundation. The company has branches in 149 countries worldwide.

For what projects/services did your company hire Sensorama?

We’ve had difficulties in conducting educational training for the medical personnel, therefore our goal was to create a platform that would help with educating medical staff in a faster and more efficient way. Together with Sensorama, we’ve created an application that allows us to conduct consultations both offline and online with a virtual human being that has specific medical indicators within a clinical case.

Therefore, the virtual patient has to be consulted together with a speaker (moderator) and prescribe a treatment.

SOLUTION

How did you select Sensorama and what were the deciding factors?

Our company has worked with Sensorama before on other projects. And having heard about their successful cases with hard and soft skills, we’ve decided to develop a solution for our needs as well.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

They’ve developed two different applications - for offline and online events: a Unity app integrated with Agora for audio and video connections during online events, as well as a Web Application on React. Having completed a discovery phase together, we’ve had a specific ‘to-do’ plan proposed by the developer's team that was very precise and result-based.

First of all, we approved the clinical case, then they worked on a design document that consisted of step-by-step user experience, design mockups, 3D-blockouts and assets list. Having approved that, the team sent us 3D-files for approval. Then there was a phase of clinical scenario implementation, alpha, beta and delivery phases of development.

As a result, a web application for online events and an iOS application for ipads for offline events were implemented. Key features of the app: - examine the virtual patient (lip sync and sound design are implemented); - examine the medical indicators (the medical book, medical test results, key indicators can be seen) - answer the questions that are integrated in the app after each consultation; - the speaker can show the test results; - gather statistics; - The speaker can also demonstrate a presentation.

There are also two modes in the application: the ability to study on your own the whole clinical case or together with a speaker. If the speaker mode is on, it is possible to connect up to 15 participants to one consultation. Therefore, the whole platform allows us to hold consultations in an interactive and effective manner.

How many resources from the Sensorama team worked with you, and what were their positions?

A team of 8 people worked with us among which were App Architect, Unity developer, Web developer, 3D artist, 3D level designer, UI/UX designer. Project manager and a quality assurance manager.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since the beginning of May 2021 we’ve had more than 10 offline events that are fully built on the consultations using the platform developed by Sensorama. Overall, more than 200 medical specialists have completed the consultation using the app already and we expect this number to grow. The app proves to be an effective instrument.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Sensorama works using the SCRUM approach with weekly sprints. We’ve had all the documentation for the app, such as design document, project plan, necessary spreadsheets to keep track of all the changes that had to be implemented in the consultations. The project management office is very flexible within the communication tools being used.

In our case, we agreed on communicating via emails and Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I liked their flexibility and ability to assist in everything we had challenges with. They kept looking for the best solution for our particular needs and were always result-oriented. Even now, when the development phase is over, they support us within every event held.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Our company is satisfied with the result we’ve got and we plan to add more and more scenarios in the platform. Everything within the project was just great.

We wanted to visualize the industrial project of the logistics terminal and approve the ergonomics of the architectural solution. We were also willing to demonstrate the terminal to our partners and stakeholders without being present at the actual location.

They have outstanding expertise in 3D visualization, texturing, and animation. Their portfolio shows an ability to cope with the complicated tasks and visualization of complex locations, so the choice was clear.

They visualized an innovative logistics terminal while the actual space remained under construction. They visualized about 6800 square feet of space. They also animated running a package through the sorting system, and they animated such spaces as office premises, education rooms, and presentation halls.

We communicated mainly with the project manager and chief product officer. However, a team of around 10 people worked on the project itself.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project allowed us to adopt the new changes in the construction of the terminal in terms of ergonomics, capability and space usage. We plan to use this visualization as a configurator for future terminals or a basis for VR-training of newcomers. Sensorama Lab is good at crisis management and product development as well as meeting deadlines.

The project management was good. We were able to communicate effectively with the team.

They are very innovative. The team members perform well and also try to improve. They’re constantly making their product better.

Our initial idea was to show complicated things in a simple way. A rocket launch is hard to understand, but an AR model could show its three initial stages.

Sensorama Lab developed AR applications for Android and iOS using Vuforia and Unity. They created a basic UI, created a 3D model of a starting platform and a rocket, animated the flight with fire and smoke animations, and added sound to the images. Those components made the rocket launch look realistic.

We needed to develop an interactive real estate application for VR in HTC Vive using Unreal Engine for maximum fidelity.

We provided requirements and 3D models of the buildings. Sensorama Lab optimized our models and did the 3D modeling of additional objects such as interiors, cars, foliage, props, and more. They also handled texturing, technical design in Unreal Engine, UI/UX design, and programming. They created an interactive Unreal Engine application for HTC Vive with the possibility of changing materials and the colors of floors and walls, and the ability to interact with objects in the building (elevator, doors, furniture, etc.).

We mostly worked with the CEO and the assigned project manager, who allocated resources as needed.

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

We delivered a viable project to our client on time and had a high level of success with it.

How effective was the project management?

Communication happened exclusively through Skype and they were always true to deadlines. Our feedback was implemented in a fast and efficient way.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Even when the deadline came nearer and nearer and the client had some last minute change requests, they pulled through and went the extra mile to deliver successfully.

What tips or recommendations do you have?

They could improve on the initial briefing process but it’s something we should work on as well. We also have to find a better way to exchange files and record the progress during a project as integrating external partners into internal workflows is always a challenge.

Sensorama developed a VR application for Meta Quest and a mobile version for Android aimed at improving the soft skills of the salespersons at the stores. This training included a realistic 3D environment of the store and a simulation of dialogue with different customer personas. Trainees were prompted to talk to the customers using voice recognition technology. The project encompassed training and exam mode where users would get points if they talked to the customers correctly. 

The VR farming simulator of a tractor encompassed 3D modelling of a tractor, integrating video instructions, and interaction with monitors using hand tracking. VR drums game for children allows kids to learn how to play the drums and keep the rhythm in concert with the animated characters. The app used 3D visualization optimised for Quest, stylized characters' animations, engaging music, sound design and rhythm-based logic. 

In the VR snowball game, Sensorama recreated a small winter town, where players have to find and hit a chicken with the snowball while also dodging the snowballs coming at them and earning score points. 360 video of the MHP factory in Vinnytsa region shows the modern production processes used for poultry processing. 

In every project, the development process included several review stages to meet quality standards and implement our feedback points. This process ensured that the final product was stable and met all project requirements before its successful release.

Sensorama successfully delivered a high-quality application and a video that met our requirements within the established timeframe. They maintained open lines of communication throughout the project, ensuring a smooth execution. The delivered application and video received great reviews from the users who tried it. Overall experience of working with Sensorama was a positive one.

Their Account Manager was remarkably anticipatory, offering attentive support and expert guidance at every step of our development journey. Their project manager was proactive and effective in communication. We used email for communication, Google Meets for calls, and added feedback comments in the document. We also utilized the privilege of online meetings as we were located in Kyiv at the time. An average timeline for the development of the simulation was 2 months including the reviews.
