I’m the marketing director of a B2B SaaS company that provides customers with a platform to engage and work with their visitors and build relationships, loyalty, and overall revenue.

What challenge were you trying to address with SEMrush?

When I joined the company, there was virtually no blog, and I was tasked with building it along with content and a strategy to support five different modules across our platform. I purchased SEMrush’s subscription to help me see the effectiveness of our content marketing across the Internet and get a feel for what keywords and topics our competitors were developing.

What was the scope of their involvement?

SEMrush’s platform helps guide my content strategy plan, including content and competitive keyword strategies. I gave them our website address and connected them with our Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts. Their tool pulls all that information and puts it into reporting dashboards so we can see what’s going on with our SEO strategy. 

I’ve used their keyword gap analysis, where I can compare our keywords to our competitors’ to see which overlap and which are exclusive to each. This gives me an idea of which keywords to go after. I can also gauge the difficulty in achieving top rankings to prioritize easily. We’re a high-speed team, so we use SEMrush to find the content pieces that will get the most impact the fastest.

The platform also allows me to take several hundred keywords and categorize them by topic. I’ve set up tags for keywords and have a separate competitors group to see how we’re doing for each topic category versus a specific group of competitors. This gives me an edge over our competitors when tracking our ongoing progress. 

Additionally, SEMrush shows me how we compare in terms of backlinking. I can see how many backlinks we have earned or lost weekly. Similarly, the platform shows me how many keywords we win or lose and how many of them hit specific ranking positions on Google. SEMrush’s tool allows me to look at ranking reports for the first three positions, the first 1–2 pages of rankings and more.

What is the team composition?

I haven’t taken advantage of any team services. We’re only in contact with their support team when necessary.

How did you come to work with SEMrush?

They’re one of the most popular SEO tools, and they come up in courses when I was getting SEO certified. I've run digital marketing for Fortune 500 companies and across 5000+ websites, so I was very familiar with SEMrush already. When I joined my current company, I knew I needed some of the tools in SEMrush’s platform to get started.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent less than $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in March 2019, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

SEMrush has helped our Google rankings visibility grow steadily since the engagement started, and I can quantify that we lead all of our competitors in search visibility across our keyword priorities. In the first 18 months the content insights helped us grow by 100 blog posts, with dozens of number 1 ranking positions.  Over a six month stretch we doubled our ranked keywords from 3,000 to 6,000, thanks to SEMrush insights and measurement. 

The platform is very useful and user-friendly and enables me to identify places to pursue backlinks. SEMrush also allows me to build reports that I can share with management, which has helped me communicate important information. Moreover, they have a massive database — I haven’t found any competitors they don’t have data on. Overall, using SEMrush has been a key value in building our content strategy.

How did SEMrush perform from a project management standpoint?

Their platform and dashboards are very intuitive, so there’s no need for back and forth. Their support team has been very good, and they pay attention to the chat. If we have any problems, they contact me to work them out. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with their responsiveness. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

SEMrush’s platform is very easy to use. Their charts and graphs are well-laid, easy to read, manipulate or modify to see exactly what I want — they have excellent product design. Their reports are drilled down, allowing me to see granular detail. 

Overall, SEMrush is easy to work with. We got up and running very quickly, and I’ve never run into a problem finding relevant information since. Additionally, they have a larger database than others, which gives me access to quality information about my competitors.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could give us access to more modules without upsells. There are a lot of different service categories, and I can’t use some modules because I’d need to upgrade to a higher subscription. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

SEMrush is a no-brainer! If you work in digital marketing, content marketing, or SEO, you should have SEMrush as one of your base performance-tracking tools.

In month of Dec 2020 I did SEO Audit of my website on and find that there is too much scope for improve like keywood research and what keywords I should target for my business as well as most interesting thing I like about SEMrush is its backlink gap tool which offer you insite of competitors backlink strategy and scope there you can build your own backlink for same niche.

I saw significant increase in my overall website ranking as well as my DR rating using SEMrush suggestions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their competitor analysis of keywords and backlinks helped us a lot to reach our SEO goals.

The only issue is had with SEMrush is their cost, it's a little costly if want to use their content building tool then need to pay extra for it which is way costly.
