My organization is an education union and we represent over 70,000 educators in Maryland.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Scotch Digital?

We wanted to redesign our website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we went through a discovery phase where we discussed what we were looking for or what goals we were trying to accomplish. We used to have a local affiliate directory on our website where it was just literally a long scrolling list of all the contact information of our locals.

They came up with the idea to have a Google Sheet that the locals themselves can update, and it was going to be linked to our WordPress site. Therefore, the updates would reflect on the website without the users ever having to access our backend, which I thought was super cool. That convinced me to select them out of everybody that we talked to.

One of our wishes was to integrate with a CRM that can easily integrate with our website. Our current CRM is called Engaging Networks, and unfortunately, it doesn’t integrate with just about any website that we have. Scotch Digital hoped to find an alternative, so they helped me shop for the CRM that would be best for us.

Additionally, one really cool thing that they did was create a survey for us in the discovery period. We were able to give that out to the key people so they can give their views and tell us what they want out of our new site — we found out what was on their wishlist, and they ended up in the final outcome of the website.

We ended up not going with one and sticking with Engaging Networks. Although it was really nice that they tried to help us with a different project other than the actual website build.

We'll be embarking with them to redesign all of our local 29 local websites based on the counties of Maryland.

What is the team composition?

There are three main people that we work with. My main point of contact is Nick (Founder), the design person who provided the design for the website, and another person who does the actual coding and functionalities for it.

How did you come to work with Scotch Digital?

We found them through Google and ended up choosing them over a number of different vendors. Mostly because Scotch Digital seemed to be the most innovative in terms of how to create a solution.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve invested over $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The ongoing partnership started in May 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The people who took the survey for the website emailed me afterward telling me that they found the site amazing and beautiful. I definitely think it was a success, which is why we’re going to embark on another big project with Scotch Digital because everybody loves their work. It was really nice to receive positive feedback.

How did Scotch Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Nick leads everything from a project management perspective. If there’s ever a question, he points it in the right direction. They do a very good job of managing the entire project.

We typically communicate through email, but we can easily get on the phone right away if there’s a need to do so.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Most companies that we worked with in terms of web development, they become your friend and are by your side until they hand over the product. Then about 30 days later, you don’t hear from them anymore and it’s going to take another fee just to talk to them — Scotch Digital is not like that at all. I have reached out to them so many times past the 30-day mark and not only have they provided insight without charging us, but they fix things for us as well.

They’ve suggested things and provided us with solutions and that’s honestly the selling point for us to continue working with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think the best advice I could give is to have a good idea of what your dream project or result is, and to be able to convey that to them because they can probably make that happen.
