I’m the founder and CEO of Green Platform, an embedded finance platform. We work across a range of private lenders, estate agencies, and small businesses in the UK. Ultimately, we’re building an ecosystem around that group, which we call our three-sided marketplace.

We needed help building our mobile application.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient has been helping us with our UI/UX design and mobile app development. The team has been supporting us with the frontend and backend development, cloud computing, and everything else we need. The app is being developed for iOS and Android.

We had some existing documentation, so we created a prototype before engaging with them. During the initial discovery phase, we showed them the prototype and our intentions. The team has taken that foundation and redesigned it with their in-house design team. We’ve also worked with them on the backend infrastructure and cloud providers.

Since we’re a financial platform, we have rules around what the regulators require us to have, particularly around security. The team has worked with us to ensure that the security is up to scratch and how users access the app.

We’re in contact with around seven teammates. We've worked with a sales representative who doubles as an account manager, a project manager, a business analyst, a designer, a frontend developer, a backend developer, and a tester.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

I found them through a Google search. I looked at a number of consultants and reached out to them. When I spoke to them, they took me through what they did, and there was a connection. The team understood exactly what I was looking to do.

The team was more accommodating of what we needed to do. I could work with them a lot more than everyone else. They were more flexible, so we decided to move forward with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

When we started, the team said they’d have a number of people working with us. From the first call, it was clear they had a team. They sent us information about the roles, what they’d be doing, and who’d be responsible for what. They booked calls with us and ensured the time worked for us. Even when we got onto calls, it was quite clear.

Before we got on a call, it was clear who’d be working and what the agenda was. After the call, they’d send us notes and actions. Within a few hours, they’d come back to us with all of the actions done. Beyond just the sales process, having six people take ownership of what we were doing has surpassed my expectations.

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

The team constantly meets deadlines and stays on budget. We’ve never been on a call and been told they haven’t done something. As soon as the call is over, they constantly send emails about what’s been done.

They use Confluence to track everything, and they set me up with a Confluence account in the initial onboarding process. We typically communicate via Microsoft Teams and email. If we need to track something, we use Confluence. For quick responses, we use email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing is their ability to understand what we’re doing. From the moment we started working together, I didn’t have to explain things repeatedly. They understood instantly and came back with suggestions. The business analyst and designer have provided great suggestions. The team is really engaged in what we’re doing. They want to understand how to make the best product possible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything they could improve. They've been responsive to everything we've had to do.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Always be prepared. Make sure you have your stuff ready because Rootquotient is always ready to go. They always have their actions done, so to avoid any delays, make sure you have your actions done as well.

I’m the president and owner of CMJ Sheet Metal Ltd., an HVAC installer for new residential high-rises. We install everything related to air in new buildings, including venting fans, ducting, exhaust fans, and grills.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Rootquotient?

Our employees work on job sites and need materials, venting, fans, and more. In the past, they've had a purchase order (PO) book with printed pages. Each page has a unique five-digit number that increments and a carbon copy page is on the back. In an ideal world, the employees would go to the supplier, order the materials, and give the unique PO number to the supplier. The supplier then put the number on the invoice, which eventually came back to us. We'd match the invoice with the PO; everything would be fantastic.

However, in real life, that's nothing like what happens. The employees enter the shop, order the materials, and realize they have forgotten the book. They'll make up a number because they think it's a secure system, and we'll get an invoice with a PO number we don't recognize: just one of many things that have happened. We spend a lot of time tracking down invoices and figuring out what project they belong to. All this process wastes much of our time, plus the PO books are expensive.

As a result, I looked for a solution online that would generate a unique PO number that people could use on a mobile app. We also wanted a website where we could get that information back immediately. Most purchase order systems are a part of a bigger financial package.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient has developed a mobile app and a web portal for us. We need to manage and approve the POs but not generate them. We required a simple mobile app where the user could open it, select a project and vendor, briefly describe what they're buying, and hit create a PO. A unique number would appear on the app, and they'd show that to the vendor. The vendor would record that, and at the same time, we'd see that on the web portal. The PO would pop up, and all the information would return to us.

Since I have an electronics engineering background, we've sent a detailed product specification and sent it to them. Rootquotient went over it and asked questions. They've replied with a proposal based on what I submitted, how long it would take, and the approximate cost. They've done all the design work, too.

Rootquotient has developed the mobile app using an app that allowed them to send it out for both iOS and Android using Ruby on Rails. We got the first drop toward the end of November 2024 and started using it earnestly. We wanted more feature changes and finalized those a couple of weeks ago. They'll have the following drop probably at the end of this month or in February 2024.

What is the team composition?

Shree is our main contact in Canada. They had a team in India, and I had weekly calls with them. Generally, 8–12 people are on the calls, including an industrial designer, a project manager, and mobile and web developers. The number varies depending on what we're doing and the topic of the call.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

We were looking for a Canadian mobile app developer and did a Google search. Rootquotient came up, and Shree contacted us. We talked, and they had excellent answers. They were very knowledgeable.

My background is in hardware design, not software design. They said they understood what we were doing and had done similar things. They also talked about hosting the database on Amazon. We felt very comfortable with their answers, so we went with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent about $78,000 CAD.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2024; the first drop was in November 2024. We're still working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our controller loves Rootquotient's solution. It takes away a whole layer of headache for him. The employees like it because it's new and they can go back and see their purchase orders. The paper gets lost, but using and reviewing things they've ordered is much simpler, and they can do so on their mobile phones.

We haven't found any bugs during our tests. Most bugs were found before the app was released on Google Play and the App Store. The bugs we found were minor and didn't affect the functionality—mismatches on prompts and outputs and street and city names were swapped. They assessed those issues on a bug report, and I'm happy with its stability.

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

They've done very well. They are clear about the budget with us. When new ideas come up, they review the budget and specify whether it made things easier or added time. They have an entire spreadsheet, and we check each idea. They're good at reviewing each one and telling us the impact on time and cost. We go through it and decide if it's worth it.

We have regular calls over Microsoft Teams and send emails. They also use Figma, a big board to show what the app looks like. We review it and see what the app would look like when we press certain buttons. We use Microsoft Teams for regular voice communication. They show us what they're doing and do presentations; although the time zone difference has been challenging, we have overcome it.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Afrin, our project and technical manager, is very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They know what they are doing and do what they said they would do. They've come in on budget, and I'm happy with how everything has gone.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't fault anything. Rootquotient has developed and designed our platform from scratch and presented better solutions and ideas. I enjoy the knowledge they bring to the table. The weakest thing has been the audio communication, but that is minor.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

For any project you want to develop, the more you study and understand, the better. Getting to the final project will be costly if you go in with a vague idea. It will be much less expensive if you know what you want and write it down as much as possible. The more you prepare, the easier it is for Rootquotient, and the faster and lower the cost will be.

We needed help with software development to augment our team and accelerate the development of our platform. We needed a resource who could work with our technology stack and who had soft skills like the ability to work independently and ask the right questions.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient has been providing us with software development and UX design services. We’ve handled the project management, and they’ve done the development. Initially, they spent time on an onboarding process with our developers, who showed the Rootquotient developer our code base and got him upskilled. Rootquotient has checked out the code and now answers requests for a review of their work.

Rootquotient has been working with all the technologies in our stack. The frontend is in Next.js, and the backend is in Spring Boot. We also use Hibernate on the backend, which controls our database. The database technology is PostgreSQL, and everything is cloud-native and running on AWS.

What is the team composition?

We’ve been working with one developer, Antony, and one person who helps with UX design part-time. We also have some admin teammates around to help with invoicing and finances.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

Rootquotient was an internal referral to my CEO; we knew them already. They came across really well in the selection process. They were super quick in getting a developer into interviews, and we ended up hiring that developer from the first interview. We liked the pace of the process and the quality of the developer they put forward.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Rootquotient has saved us a lot of time. The developer gets things done and doesn’t make excuses — he gets in and contributes. 

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Rootquotient has delivered work on time. Antony has stayed up late several times to get things done on time. One of his first engagements was to get some work done before a big conference. He had lots of responsibilities very quickly and worked hard to get everything done, and he did it unprompted. We use Jira for project management and Microsoft Teams to talk amongst ourselves in between meetings.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

We’d like to give a shout-out to Srivatsan. He’s super accommodating. We work in a very unique way, and our funding process has changed. Srivatsan has adapted a lot to our way of working and keeps the train running.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The onboarding process with Rootquotient didn't take very long because the developer they put forward was really good. He hit the ground running really quickly and didn't need much guidance. After he checked the code, he was answering requests within a week. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing they need to improve comes to mind. It’s been a pretty positive experience.

They don’t need any management at all. Rootquotient just comes in and adapts to you and your business.

We needed help with custom software development. We wanted the project done efficiently and for the right cost. Therefore, we needed a partner with the right expertise and experience.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient has built a shipping SaaS platform for us. We’ve completed the MVP phase and are now in phase two. The team has used Java and other technologies throughout the project.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 15–20 teammates from Rootquotient at any given time, including their national sales director, senior developers, and senior project leads. The team has allocated many senior resources to our project, including on the development side. 

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

I found Rootquotient by searching on Google and finding their profile, most likely on Clutch, and compared a few options. We had a few rounds of discussions with their team and received a few proposals. Out of all the proposals, Rootquotient's one stood out in terms of detail, explanation, and support.

They clearly understood our requirements and were able to articulate them, and their level of confidence was pretty good. Moreover, the timelines provided in the proposal were as per our expectations; it didn't feel like the project would be stretched out or have an unrealistic timeline.

We started working together in January 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Rootquotient has saved us 25%–30% of the time we dedicated to our previous software. The team has upgraded our platform and made our lives a lot simpler. It saves time for us and our end customers and leads to a better UX. Overall, the entire flow of what we need to do on a day-to-day basis is now much easier. The quality of Rootquotient's work meets our expectations. 

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Rootquotient delivers work on time and within budget. They communicate well with us. We use Confluence and Microsoft Teams for project management and communication, as well as emails and phone calls. Although saving money wasn't necessarily our biggest objective, Rootquotient's cost is very balanced. They've showcased their experience while being priced appropriately.

Ranjith (Head of Operations) has been fantastic in his leadership and the way he’s managed the project. Before we decided to hire Rootquotient, it was our technical discussions with Ranjith that gave us all the confidence that they were the right team. Moreover, our account manager has always been involved and has been the bridge for us whenever there are clarifications or change requests.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Rootquotient is great and flexible. They accommodate our requests and always work toward the success of the project.

There's nothing they need to improve; everything has been pretty smooth and seamless.

I’m the senior manager of operations and implementation of a nonprofit organization that supports a network of food banks across Ontario. I oversee operations and logistics.

We were eager to update and improve our system.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient uses JavaScript to work on our food donation database. We initially signed an agreement and sorted out the project scope and timeline. A couple of weeks later, we got started.

We use the system to communicate the available donations to the food banks in our network, so it acts as a communication portal where we send offers out. The food banks can place requests, and the system has an algorithm that determines or helps inform how everything gets distributed across the province.

The platform is interactive in that way, and there’s a lot of communication throughout the system. Additionally, it acts as our database for collecting information, running reports, and providing feedback to our donors.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

I initially searched on Google for what we were looking for and found Rootquotient through Clutch. They were collaborative and available to get started right away.

How much have you invested with them?

The initial development will be about $85,000 CAD (approximately $62,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We initially planned to do the updates in October 2023, but then we took an internal pause to organize some things. We contacted them again in February 2024 and officially started the project. We’re currently in the middle of development.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have any results yet. We’ve completed the design work and started development, so the progress so far has been what we expected. Overall, we’re really happy with Rootquotient’s work and support.

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management is great. Everything is on time and meets our expectations. The payment schedule is accurate, and they give us regular updates, breaking down the work and where we’re at.

Moreover, there haven’t been any delays. Their team is responsive and thorough in all the information they share with us. Rootquotient is great at translating different coding and development terms and processes to our team with less experience in that world.

Communication has been clear throughout the process. We typically have 2–3 calls per week as we work through the design process, so we mainly use video calls and email follow-ups.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication and transparency are outstanding. They’ve been very transparent throughout the process, so there haven’t been any real surprises. Moreover, Rootquotient has been thorough; they ensure we understand what they’re talking about and circle back if there are questions.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t have any constructive criticism to provide. We’ve had a great experience overall.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Go into the call with Rootquotient with an open mind; the team has intuitive ideas. When we present an issue we’re dealing with, they have 2–3 ideas to tackle it by the next call. Opening the door to their ideas and the options they can come up with has been really beneficial to our process. For example, we took on aspects of the system or redesigned parts of the program in ways we hadn’t considered previously.

I’m an operating principal for a private equity firm. We primarily invest in the IT services sector and currently have nine companies in our portfolio.

What challenge were you trying to address with Rootquotient?

As a private equity company, we always conduct due diligence on different companies, investigating their financial and operational performance and assessing the performance of our portfolio companies on an ongoing basis. Toward that end, we’ve developed some identity-aware proxies (IAPs), which we’ve been using as spreadsheets.

We wanted to develop intuitive software to make it easier for us and our portfolio companies.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we explained verbally to Rootquotient the different elements that would go into the assessment software. We provided some cleaned-up extracts of the spreadsheets we used for that assessment.

The platform is a web-based application running on AWS. Rootquotient has developed it using JavaScript and a MySQL server and worked on documentation.

What is the team composition?

We’ve interacted with five teammates overall. An account manager is leading the engagement. Additionally, we’ve had two business analysts at different points in time and three technical people.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

We got quotes from three vendors and chose Rootquotient out of those three.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $35,000–$40,000 because it isn’t an extensive software.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in July 2023, and our relationship is ongoing. They’re currently working on some requests.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve just completed the user acceptance testing; there is one more change request before we roll it out into production. To have a more concrete Firebird, we’ve already been able to discuss the software in our annual general meeting, for which I was in New York last week.

We’re doing the final change request and update, so the impact right now is letting our portfolio companies or investors know how the software will help us.

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Rootquotient has been quite well engaged. I come from an IT services background, so I’ve handled many large engagements in Cognizant, Wipro, etc. Considering this is a small project, Rootquotient has been thorough in documenting the requirements and coming up with the user stories, design system, and hybrid design, and then converting this hybrid into the actual development.

Moreover, they’ve followed a truly agile methodology, checking with us at each development point and taking feedback. We’ve been pretty happy with their help throughout this engagement.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

The proxy product manager took care of the first release and some of the requests and kept that in mind for future releases. Overall, he’s the person we’ve interacted with the most to convey our requirements, perform tests and user acceptance testing, and provide feedback.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Other than one small thing, Rootquotient has been impressive in all aspects. For a small project, they’ve been thorough at documenting the requirements, writing down the user stories, converting each of those into high-fidelity designs, and validating them.

We went with the architecture and technology choices and then decided to make some changes after they developed it. The team has been responsive and accommodating to some change requests within the initial scope without charging extra; they’ve only asked for an additional amount when the change is more significant.

Additionally, Rootquotient has already created user manuals and demonstrations for our company's stakeholders while the system is still in production.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can only point out one small thing in the entire engagement. When we moved on from the requirements to the design, Rootquotient gave us different design options. We chose one, but then we were surprised that it wasn’t part of the initial code. We rolled back because we wanted to stay within our budget, and they told us more clearly what we could do to keep with the initial code. Overall, it was a minor glitch in the scope management.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Although I come from an IT service background, I hadn’t considered that we have to allocate enough time, even for a small project. Since Rootquotient thoroughly documents the requirements and signs off on each phase of the hybrid design system, business stakeholders should allocate sufficient time to review each stage of the documents and sign off on those.

Rootquotient provides software design services for a new web geographic information system (GIS) that we're building.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, Rootquotient was involved at a project management level, directing some of our younger staff. Eventually, we brought the team in full-time with one of their developers to complete more tasks to keep up with the pace we needed. Some of the technologies Rootquotient is bringing in include digital twinning for some of the flood work we’re doing and utilizing drone-based LiDAR imagery that we captured to provide better deliverables to our clients. 

We host our platform, and Rootquotient provides the expertise to explain some of these complex processes to our junior staff so they can pass on the knowledge transfer.

The software hasn't been deployed yet, but Rootquotient shared their progress and functionalities. Rootquotient delivers high-quality work, and the team is knowledgeable and resourceful. 

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Rootquotient is coming in under budget. The team maintains a consistent pace of work, which is why I like them. We usually communicate with the management team via email and with Yogesh via Slack.

I want to highlight Yogesh's work. He is very knowledgeable and patient. Srivatsan is also an employee we'd like to shout out. As the B2B manager, he has been supportive and addressing our concerns in a timely manner.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I'm mostly impressed by Rootquotient's overall vision, which aligns with our software project. The team understands some of the issues we face and hence provides a reasonable price since our profit margins aren't as big as the ones from other companies. Additionally, Rootquotient is very accommodating. I know some of their staff work in different time zones, and they meet whenever we need to train our junior staff on how to do this work.

I can't think of anything for Rootquotient to improve. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I suggest being honest with Rootquotient about what you're trying to do. The team is a moral-driven organization that strives to provide solutions to problems underrepresented populations are facing. That is why we get along so well because our teams are aligned on those fronts.

All meetings are scheduled and feasible for our organization. Rootquotient communicates every cost that varies, and they’re timely with invoicing and delivery of development documents. If they say they’ll have something by the weekend, they have it. They also give us time to review everything, and we can comment on their platform.

Overall, they’re all fantastic because they listen if we don’t like something.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder and CEO of a clean tech company operating in carbon accounting. Our product is an automated solution for product carbon footprints to measure the lifecycle carbon emissions of food and beverage products in particular.

What challenge were you trying to address with Rootquotient?
We needed a software development partner.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, Rootquotient performed a scope of our project requirements and our vision for this carbon-intelligence platform. From there, Rootquotient provided a business proposal illustrating their understanding of our platform and what we needed to accomplish. Then, we went through an intelligence-gathering stage where Rootquotient conducted an exercise to define the platform's user journey and collect the information they needed to build the platform. 

Rootquotient has produced low-fidelity designs for us to review and then delivered high-fidelity designs based on our feedback. Rootquotient has broken down the development stage into sprints, developing the platform by stages. The team has delivered an initial beta version of our platform, which has gone through extensive testing. We then launched and tested the platform through a pilot program we ran with Canadian food and beverage companies. Based on this pilot program, Rootquotient has identified bugs and retrieved user feedback to implement and enhance the platform before delivering the final version. 

Rootquotient continues to build features and functionalities on top of our platform and provides ongoing support and maintenance. The team has used Node.js for backend development, React.js for fronted development, and PostgreSQL to build databases. Our platform is hosted in AWS.

What is the team composition?

The team composition changed throughout the project, but I've worked with two project managers, a backend developer, a frontend developer, and a full stack developer.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

We found Rootquotient on Clutch and contacted them because we liked their reviews on the site.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $100,000 CAD (approximately $75,000 USD) on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Rootquotient in September 2022, and the team finalized the platform's first version in November 2023. The team continues to provide support and maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Rootquotient has delivered outstanding results, and we've received positive feedback from users about the platform. The platform is intuitive and easy to use, meeting our expectations. Initially, when we launched the platform's beta version, it had bugs and glitches that Rootquotient immediately addressed within 24–48 hours. We now have a stable platform with a user-friendly interface and good UX. 

Moreover, Rootquotient has deep and extensive software development and programming knowledge. The team provides guidance regarding what we should consider and how to enhance our software. The platform is consistent and calculates complex numbers based on data inputted by clients. We've done our own validation testing and built our own version of the software, and it's calibrated nicely.

Additionally, Rootquotient is knowledgeable in third-party API connection and provides good solutions to errors that this API throws. The team has seamlessly integrated third-party API into our platform, including a Google Maps API.

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Rootquotient delivers work on time and in line with our budget. We have excellent communication through weekly Scrum meetings. We also use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and email as required.  For project management, we use Google Workspace, SendGrid, and Twilio.

I want to highlight Lokesh's (Senior Software Developer) work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I'm mostly impressed with Rootquotient's technical knowledge and experience with writing the code and third-party integrations. We talked to other service providers that didn't have the abilities Rootquotient has. Additionally, the team's problem-solving skills are impressive. Rootquotient has a systematic process to pinpoint issues and comes up with a resolution quickly. 
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

We'd like more input and insight regarding how we can leverage AI technology and use it to enhance the platform and accelerate development. However, I'm aware that we haven't pushed Rootquotient too much about this.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
I recommend having a good vision and understanding of the project they're trying to build and the required key functionalities. This way, they can communicate these requirements to Rootquotient and expedite the process, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
