What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

We wanted to develop a survey application that would collect data from different companies. We wanted to extract those insights and integrate them into an existing application.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave them technical specifications, and RootQuotient gave us wireframes for the web-based app. After we approved them, they launched into development. They used Node.js for the backend and React Native for the frontend. They used another data processing software for the data analytics side.

What is the team composition?

We had one manager, a data analyst, two developers, a designer, and a software tester. My primary point of contact was an additional business analyst.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

We shortlisted a 4­–5 vendors in both Canada and the US. They gave us a better pitch than the other teams. We liked their approach and their detailed proof-of-concept. We decided to go with them then.

How much have you invested with them?

The investment was somewhere around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2019 and the project was deployed in February 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The application they developed has had a very positive impact on our business. It’s attracted more than 200 enterprise employers from different segments like construction, engineering, food processing, and more. RootQuotient provided a unique and effective approach to extracting data from employers while keeping the identity of the employer anonymous. The product also features a smart scoring system. We haven’t experienced any major issues at all.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Most of the project management was done on our end. We used JIRA. Their business analysts were helpful in addressing the backlog and maintaining constant communication. It was easy keeping track of the project progress.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a great team, so they’re able to come up with numerous solutions to a problem. They’ve excelled at supporting our own team for a timely deployment of the product.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, we’ve been very pleased with the overall outcome.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d recommend customers to be flexible with them. They have great expertise that they can apply from ideation to deployment.

We’re a marketing agency that does experiential marketing that allows people to connect with their brand. We’ve been around for about 25 years, and I’m a marketing coordinator here. I also handle technology-based activation that comes our way.

What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

They created a mobile application with a web-based stream.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The concept behind the app was that users could enter the solution on a tablet, go through a series of prompts, and have their story sent off to the backend. There, administrators could approve, decline, or edit pending stories. From there, the live stories could be played on a television. As they were approved, they’d be automatically pushed onto the live screen.

Their team also designed the live screen function so the content would cascade in with a story counter at the bottom of the screen, indicating how many were submitted in total. They built the solution for Android and iOS using Ruby on Rails. We provided them with general concepts and ideas at the start of the project. Then, they returned to us with a solid wireframe. After that, they got to the building, and we tweaked the product here and there to meet client needs. 

The majority of the product is complete, but we still put in requests for changes and adjustments as issues come up.

What is the team composition?

We worked with 2–3 people throughout the development process.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

I reached out to several different development firms and met with many of them. My goal was to select the provider that I was most comfortable working with. They were one of my top choices early on.

Their team seemed like they’d be able to make a product to serve my clients, and they would be happy to adjust it to our needs. The quote and hourly rate they requested ended us being selling factors for us as well.

We started working with them in December 2019, and our engagement is still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The functionality of the solution is fantastic. When we were doing troubleshooting the product, they were able to fix issues on the fly. That customer service and responsiveness couldn’t be beaten.  

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Our project manager was very closely involved from beginning to end, even checking on us now from time to time. Additionally, he encouraged us to work face-to-face, often taking the time to visit our offices to collaborate.

I appreciated that he made the effort to attend our meetings and show us his process step-by-step. They always keep an open line of communication and scope things realistically. We used Microsoft Teams chat and email to stay in touch.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They provided us with a personalized experience. Their team didn’t just speak with us over the phone, instead, they visited our offices in-person. It felt like they were working as part of our team instead of for us. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything. They’ve exceeded all my expectations. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that you thoroughly read through your brief and requirements with them in the beginning. Additionally, we got much more done with them over the phone, when we were able to ask and answer questions directly.

I’m a partner with Ma Gardienne et Moi, a babysitter booking app.

What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

We wanted to develop an app for babysitters.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed an app for iOS and Android that allowed babysitters and parents to have a profile and schedule babysitting services. They also developed the website for the app. All their work was from scratch; we just gave them an idea of what we wanted. They are finishing the app now, and then we’ll be able to test it.

What is the team composition?

I’m in contact with Rajendra (Senior Software Engineer, RootQuotient). There are two developers he is working with. When we have meetings, it’s mostly Rajendra and one other person we speak with.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

My partner did the research for developers, found them online, and had a conversation with them. Based on the feeling she had, we decided to go with them. They submitted a proposal of what they were thinking based on what we asked them. Finally, they understood what we wanted and were responsive.

We’ve spent between $10,000-$25,000 so far.

We started working together in July 2019, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve done some testing, and we like it so far. They’ve responded to what we want and showed good initiative in the design aspect. I don’t have a strong background in software development, but they take time to explain exactly what they’re doing and how it’s going to impact our code and what the user will see.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

I really like our interactions with them. We have a weekly meeting, and they’ve come up with multiple ways to keep us in the loop regarding what they were doing. We’ve been using Azure for coding and task requests.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re flexible in scheduling time to talk to us. It doesn’t matter if it’s during the week or the weekend, they’re available. They give an answer to every request we have.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’ve met all my expectations.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Our point of contact is good at understanding what we want and then conveying it to the team he’s working with. My advice is to talk to him. He has a lot of experience in understanding what the customer wants and relaying it to the programmer/developer. We didn’t know a lot about how we wanted to present or design our software, but he was able to understand what we wanted and redirect it to the team.

We were looking for a technology partner to develop a fully functioning MVP of our platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a social media and tournament solution for us. This included developing a web application and a mobile application for iOS and Android. 

We did the UI, and they did the UX conversion. We gave them wireframes for the general structure of the app as well.

They used Python, React, Angular, Node, and SQL. The mobile apps are native Objective C and native Android solutions as well. 

What is the team composition?

There were 7-8 people, and I coordinated with two of them.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

I heard about their work through LinkedIn, and their reviews were good. Also, one of my friends in the US said they were doing really well. 

We had a look at their case studies, and their tech stack lined up with ours. We began a small prototype, and there were no problems. So, we were happy and gave them the contract.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested between $120,000 and $150,000 for the MVP.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together from June 2019 until October 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m happy with the results. The platform already has 70,000 users.  The number of bugs that came with the MVP is much less than normal.

They don’t feel like a vendor, but rather a part of our in-house team. Their turnaround time is fast.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was really good. We used Microsoft Teams, Trello, and Jira. They respond quickly to those channels.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They found major architectural flaws created by our previous team, which had been a roadblock for our scalability.

There could be more efficiency around feedback.

They’re a really good team. Other than just being a technology partner, they understand the impact that their technology has. They understand the business.

We had an idea but needed a proper implementation strategy from an experienced team.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided design implantation strategies for our mobile app and did the backend coding from scratch. It’s a news aggregation platform that’s cross platform for iOS and Android. The apps aren’t live yet as we’re still in the testing stage.

We were referred by a friend who was one of their clients.

We worked together from July–September 2019.

Our investors are really pleased with the components of the app. The overall user journey is pretty simple, and user interaction with the newsfeed has increased by 23%.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was handled on our end using Asana. They were ready to join the team and help us track how the project should progress.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their expertise and commitment to continually improve the ease of use of the app is really impressive.

I don’t have anything for them to improve. They’re the best at what they do.

I’d advise any startup team to share their roadmap and future ideas. This way RootQuotient can provide more suggestions around technical implementation.

I’m the co-founder of Bridge Classrooms, an education communication platform. We’re focusing on bridging the gap between schools, parents, and teachers for a better upbringing of children.

What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

A private tutor who we know told us the challenges that children face due to miscommunication between schools and their parents. My partner and I had the idea to build an application to solve this problem, but my co-founder and I didn’t have a technical background. We needed a team to build our mobile and web app and provide continuous support through all the product roadmap.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our mobile and web applications from scratch. They’re using a cross-platform tool to create the mobile apps. We wanted to automate as many daily tasks as possible for the school’s management like tracking the attendance, maintaining the scorecards and report cards, obtaining the reviews from students for the teachers, ranking them, receiving feedback regarding their work from the parents, managing the school supply inventory for the school, etc.

They gave us a prototype after the requirement gathering phase was completed. The mobile app and web app for the same stakeholder have the same functionalities, but the features differ from stakeholder to stakeholder. They’re currently almost halfway through the project of the planned roadmap and we plan to launch this October.

There is a team of seven people. We’re mainly in contact with the project manager and one other member of their team.

My friend had a really good experience with them in the past so I trusted their recommendation.

They’ve really helped us in converting prospects. The prototype is very much like an actual application and we’re able to click through and do a walkthrough of our product’s process, which is really helpful. 

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been really helpful right from the ideation stage. They clearly explained the process of the collaboration upfront. We had frequent calls in the initial 30 days and discussed a lot of ideas. We have a clear roadmap and everything is going smooth so far. We now only have a call once or twice a day. We’ve also been given access to track the development process.

We like that they’re available 24/7 and are always within reach.

No, there’s nothing I’d have them improve.

Listen to their suggestions. Giving them feedback on the designs or solutions right away has helped us do things quicker.

I am a professor at a university in India. I am the head of procurement 
for the university facility that runs various kitchens to provide food 
for the student residents.

What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

We had a manual system for our centralized procurement center where we provide food for students. It’s cumbersome work and a lot of mistakes had been made, so we needed software developed to fix this issue.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

RootQuotient developed our software, which helped us eliminate the mistakes that were being made. They built features to calculate how much was being consumed. This way whatever is spent is what will be delivered to all the students per month.

Overall, the project took five months to complete and RootQuotient used PHP and MySQL.

What is the team composition?

There were three developers and one project manager assigned to our project.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

Another vendor had developed the system for me, but we weren’t satisfied with their work. We wanted to hire a high-quality company. RootQuotient was referred to us from people in our network, so we looked at their work and found that they could deliver what we wanted.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent 70 lakh (approx. $97,877 US) on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June until November 2018. We had a few bugs that they fixed in March 2019, which took them a couple of months to handle.

RootQuotient produced great software which was much more useful than what we had before. I also got a good reputation within my organization thanks to the software they developed.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was impressive. RootQuotient immediately did whatever we asked of them and kept us updated throughout the engagement. They had good teamwork and would detail all the functionalities they were working on during each phase of the development.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed by their project manager, delivery of the project, and the time it took to complete everything. I really enjoyed working with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They mostly work in the evenings, which isn’t comfortable for me. Otherwise, they’re good.

RootQuotient is easily reachable for any clarification that’s needed. Clients that are clear with project requirements will get the best out of this team.

I’m a co-founder of a product development company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with RootQuotient?

We needed a partner to build a mobile application for our product, and later scale it to include a web version.

A major challenge we encountered was making our features as user-centric as possible around the privacy settings. It was especially hard for the market segment we tried to target, and RootQuotient handled our project brilliantly.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

RootQuotient provided several services to facilitate the creation of our app. First, they helped brainstorm some of the features on how the UI/UX should work. They also helped with design, and handled the development portion entirely.

They used Elixir and Firebase on the backend, and Flutter for the iOS and Android development, which is one of the latest frameworks from the Google ecosystem. We used a Flutter cross-platform solution because we really wanted to capture the market on both the iOS and Android segment, and we wanted to do it quickly.

Some notable features they developed include a deleting and archiving chat function, within peer-to-peer and group conversations. They also included an auto-deletion segment, along with a message scheduling feature. They met all of our requirements, and we’re excited to have such a top-notch solution at our fingertips.

We had one project manager, who managed the project on RootQuotient’s side. We also worked with a business analyst, who was our connection to their developers. In total, the team size on their end was around five people.

How did you come to work with RootQuotient?

We were put in contact with several development teams at a Toronto networking event. We were really impressed with three of the vendors, but RootQuotient was suggested for our prototype—which we wanted to make quickly. We needed a strong technical partner and reached out to RootQuotient to meet those expectations.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested $60,000 so far with RootQuotient. We’re planning to add more features for the full launch and expect the full investment to reach $80,000–$85,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working on the prototype in February 2019, and our engagement is ongoing. The product is in beta release at the moment.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

RootQuotient went beyond our expectations, especially for an MVP. Specifically, we’ve received positive UX feedback from beta users we’ve interviewed recently.

We’ve also garnered positive reception on sharing different file formats and about privacy-first settings within the chats. We love that they continue to meet our customers’ expectations.

How did RootQuotient perform from a project management standpoint?

They did a really good job at project management.

First, we brainstormed the requirements along with their team, and they were able to suggest features related to the performance of the app. Next, for communication, they scheduled daily calls during the analysis phase, where we discussed the requirements.

Subsequently, they managed the product from the early prototype stages, and we drafted the requirements for the MVP. The design and development were really based on those requirements, and on an agile methodology. We used Azure DevOps as a project management tool, and we had four development sprints for the MVP.

Everything went according to plan, and they did a good job categorizing our user’s stories and features.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their turnaround time is truly phenomenal. I was really amazed at how quickly they could turn around with a solution, a backup solution, or an alternate solution. For example, they made two design iterations in order to ensure that development wouldn’t be lagging. Their design iterations and solution methodologies were pretty fast, and the quality was impeccable.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. We learned a lot of things from their team, and they were open to hearing our business strategy and our vision for future achievements. We consistently learn from each other, and RootQuotient did their job of providing a technical partnership.

I appreciate their insights into how the app should evolve and how we can set a roadmap for future success.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients should bring proper requirements to RootQuotient, so that they can deliver the right solution quickly. We didn’t have our requirements solidified in some cases, so our solutions would take more time to implement. It's important to come prepared so RootQuotient can provide the fast turnaround that clients value.

I’m a teaching assistant in the computer science department of a university in Canada.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Rootquotient?

Our department had to develop an independent eLearning platform to support our online students across the world. We started the project internally, but it wasn’t possible for us to complete it. We needed technical advice and expertise to deliver a platform that was strong enough to hold content and stream content across the world.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rootquotient developed our eLearning platform from scratch, delivering the front- and backend of the website. Initially, the website was hosted in Google, but has since been shifted to AWS. The product allows students from around the world to register for, and stream free or paid classes.

We had to scrap everything so Rootquotient built our website without any structures in place. First, we discussed the technologies, timeframes, and documentation for the project. With a CMMI level four certification, their team managed the entire development process: certifications, analysis, change management, etc.

From there, their team developed the frontend. It took about a month for Rootquotient to draw the layout, plan, analyze and provide all the documentation. Once they structured the frontend, they began coding it properly. We shared the code that we’d developed, but it wasn’t clean; their team built the entire frontend using JavaScript, HTML, CSS and React.

Once the frontend was accepted, they developed the platform’s backend. Their team predominately used Node.js with a sorted Io technology. Their team implemented video conferencing and communication capabilities— a predominant part of the platform—using an open-source technology.

Although it wasn’t in their contract, Rootquotient has been providing six months of free support. There was one minor issue after three months of hosting, which they resolved without involving our team. Their team shared the document with us so we’re able to handle the challenge next time.

How did you come to work with Rootquotient?

We started by reaching out to multiple vendors in our network, eventually connecting with Rootquotient. A business development manager from their firm met with us to explain their budget, work, and expertise, which matched everything we were looking for.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $80,000 CAD (approximately $61,300 USD) with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in December 2018, and finished the platform in March but their team still provides support for the website.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Rootquotient was quick to adapt to new technologies. We were initially interested in basic backend development, but their team created a beautiful React platform. They implemented data visualization capacities to analyze the backend traffic, which is open-source. They have a great backend developer who can use various technologies from Node.js to Python. Rootquotient’s work was worth every penny we paid.  

How did Rootquotient perform from a project management standpoint?

We had easy communication. Their team sent business representatives to us and managed all stakeholders well including our college and technical team as well as their business representatives and technical team. They met with us every week—sometimes twice a week—to provide updates on the project, but we also held videoconferences. Their team involved us in every change management step. They managed the project in a professional manner, managing each and every minor detail to handle changes without any chaos. Rootquotient made sure everything was precise, perfect, and valuable; they have a great team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their most impressive quality was their commitment to involving our team in every detail. Normally firms don’t share their knowledge, but Rootquotient involved our team in their huddles to keep us up-to-date. We were completely informed about the work they were doing.

Their team also had a good software development process. A business manager came to meet us on-site to provide project updates and show us the code with a great commenting structure to enable our team to better manage it later. Again, their way of helping our team whenever an issue has arisen even after we launched the platform has been amazing. The monetary aspect was excellent.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve their marketing skills. They’re an amazing team, and I only came to know them by using my personal network. Whenever I searched Google, I wasn’t made aware of their existence. Given their potential, they could definitely grow into one of the world’s major software firms.

We needed to automate the continuous delivery process of one of our products, so we engaged RootQuotient to migrate our application into AWS.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave them a brief overview of our challenge, and RootQuotient came up with the solution. They coordinated all of the automated deployment and infrastructure configuration. It is an ongoing process as they continue to migrate information from our data center to AWS.

Ten people are working with our account, and we are in contact with the project manager and the developers.

We talked to a few companies on how they would carry out this migration for us. Among the participants, we felt RootQuotient stood out because of the strength of their portfolio.
