The scope of work with Rite NRG involved a comprehensive, ongoing development project aimed at creating a web application that would evolve continuously from its inception. Initially, the critical phase was the analysis and creation of mockups to finalize the detailed scope for implementation. This phase was followed by the execution stage, which was the most intensive and lasted about a year. 

We adopted the SCRUM methodology, working in two-week sprints with a demonstration at the end of each sprint. After completing the initial development phase, we transitioned into a maintenance and enhancement phase, during which we added new functionalities approximately every six months. Key deliverables provided by Rite NRG included: 

1. The construction of both PROD and TEST infrastructures in the Cloud, specifically on Microsoft Azure, with an approach centered on Infrastructure as Code. 
2. The creation of a dedicated code repository and CI/CD pipelines. 
3. Execution of the business analysis and the design of the application. 
4. Development of the UX/UI. 
5. Implementation of a Progressive Web Application (PWA) optimized for both desktop and tablet use. 
6. This comprehensive scope of work was designed to ensure the web application met our operational needs and strategic goals effectively.

Over the course of four years, although deliverables were not always on time due to various reasons, Rite NRG consistently demonstrated their commitment to fulfilling their obligations and ensuring project success.

I'm the director of R&D at Primion, a mid-sized company operating across Europe. Our main business is to develop and install software and hardware components for security and time management. Our solutions include access control, time and attendance management, and physical security management. Our physical security products include fire alarm systems, intrusion detection devices, and CCTV systems for mid-sized and large organizations.

What challenge were you trying to address with Rite NRG?

We started working on a project two and a half years ago to develop a new cloud-based platform for access control, time management, and attendance. Given that we were located in South Germany, it was nearly impossible for us to find the right talent and profiles to start this project.

We started looking for candidates in other European countries without success. Then, I got in contact with Rite NRG, and they were able to provide us with experts who helped us develop the first version of our platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, we provided Rite NRG with a presentation of our vision and our goals. Then, we discussed with them the profiles we had in mind to get support in finding those profiles. Based on this presentation and our discussion, we defined what we actually needed. Since then, Rite NRG has helped us out.

Rite NRG has worked with us to help us develop a cloud-based platform based on Oracle Cloud, which is our main software architecture. We're also using microservices and micro-frontends based on TypeScript as the programming language, as well as Angular for frontend development.

The project described above was our first project. For the last five months of that project, Rite NRG also took over the technical leadership, giving us the architecture solution for this project. Although that project is now complete, we'll continue working with them.

We started working together around June 2023, and we’re still working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to Rite NRG, we've been able to go from an R&D process to delivering new products on a completely new technology stack unknown to the rest of our R&D team. Now, we're launching our first product, so we'll see its impact in the future.

As for the quality of their work, Rite NRG has exceeded our expectations, especially with the kind of cooperation we've established. They've done much more than I would expect from an external development partner because they've also provided feedback about our team and possible ways to increase performance depending on the basis of the project. Their regular feedback has really helped me steer this project in the right direction and push this technology change.

How did Rite NRG perform from a project management standpoint?

Rite NRG has been very transparent with everything they've done. We've worked on an agile model, collaborating on making pre-estimations. Still, as complexity arises compromising our first assumptions, they're very transparent about it, which is nice. For example, if it looks like we won't be on time or over budget, they escalate the issue with us before it happens.

What did you find most impressive about them?

All the developers and resources from Rite NRG have come into the project with a very professional skill set and mindset. They've even helped us train our internal staff while working on the project. Their team hadn't simply come into the project and do some coding; they've truly supported us through our technology transformation.

For example, Rite NRG has proactively told us how to use their resources more effectively, which is impressive. Their contract is based on an hourly payment, not a fixed price, so they could simply work with us as we like and collect the money. However, they've provided us with ideas on how to improve things like project setup, reporting, or product architecture to get more out of their team.

Moreover, the way Rite NRG has shared their knowledge with our internal team has been amazing. Normally, it would be much easier for an outsourcing company to keep the knowledge to themselves to ensure that the client needs to stick with them. The fact that Rite NG doesn't do that makes them a really good corporation.

There's nothing they could improve on; I'm very happy with them.

Share your product vision and your commercial vision with them and see if they can come up with a good technical proposal on how to transform this vision into a technical project. Then, set a first milestone and go for it so that you can see how they perform.

They understood the blockchain technology and its applications. Throughout the project, they offered some serious insights and came up with fresh solutions. Their problem-solving skills made the project run super smoothly.

They are open to sharing feedback both ways, etc. Every time they respond quickly to any request via email. They are asking and sharing feedback, insights, etc. That is absolutely tremendous. They started with and existing business and technical requirements that had to be revised. Their first step was to work with our Product team on aligning and updating requirements. At the same time they started technical verification and created product roadmap. Next was a walking skeleton phase where we had time to verify different technical concepts. Three months into the project, due to external factors, we had to change priorities and pause the project. We successfully changed Rite NRG team composition and assigned them to help us in other areas. Technology stack: NodeJS, Angular, Go.

The first project, when paused, had revised business requirements, roadmap that was ready to execute and a walking skeleton implementation. Those artefacts will be crucial when we decide to resume the project. After reassigning Rite NRG to another project, we managed to speed up development and we are now close to reaching its pilot release.

That's definitely their strong point. They manage the project on the strategic and operational levels. On the strategic level we had a bi-weekly call with their manager. We were discussing project and team status as well as upcoming milestones. On the operational level we used Slack and emails. Rite NRG team was part of our R&D Slack organization which was especially useful to discuss dependencies between domains, technical constraints but also confirm business requirements. Main communication tools included Slack, Google Meet and emails.

We were very satisfied with the resource that Rite NRG found and hired for us. He contributed largely to the team, helping to reduce our database costs by 25% over the course of the engagement. He also became the cornerstone of our backend team as the most highly skilled member. He always had a positive approach, and he worked to find solutions to every situation.

We used Jira to manage the project, and we communicated frequently. Rite NRG helped minimize the cultural differences between us and the resource, working closely with us to optimize the relationship.
