We needed support to build a new, modern website and create a new company logo. The new website was meant to be a 'brochure' for prospective clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Riot and Rebel handled the design and development of the website, including the front page, services, sectors, and about us page. All the designs were their original ideas, and I just let them do their work. The team also redesigned the company logo with a carpe blanche to come up with the design with very little guidelines to follow.

The website was miles more professional. We also saw increased traffic and received great feedback from everyone who has seen it. The site was professional, easy to navigate, clear, and modern.

Our previous website had been live for a long time and, while it served its purpose, it was difficult to manage and keep up to date. With no one in the team trained to maintain it properly, refreshing content, updating information, and evolving our branding became a challenge. We needed a website that was easier for our young people, families, and communities to navigate and use. 

Riot and Rebel were recommended to us, and after exploring their social media and reviewing some of their previous work, we felt confident they were the right fit. Their style, creativity, and understanding of purpose-led organisations stood out, and we knew they could deliver a website that truly represented us.

I appointed Riot & Rebel to design and build my website this year. I have used their services for clients previously and always been impressed. My own web presence was below standard and didn't reflect my level of knowledge, my service offering or my track record. 

We started from the ground up with a brand refresh and several introductory meetings to understand what I wanted the site to do, how I wanted it to look and what competitors were doing. Louise and Alex were extremely helpful throughout this process and we soon settled on a look, feel and functionality.

The build process was collaborative and I felt involved throughout. They were responsive and made sure that my website worked for me. They also took the lead on design and took my feedback on board at all times - stuff like that is vital for someone like me. I'm a sole trader so I don't want to outsource anything. What people see reflects on me directly, so I had to be involved.

I wrote the copy to fit the structure we discussed and it was integrated seamlessly. They offered suggestions where appropriate and helped to ensure my main sales points were front and centre through design - that's page layouts, animations etc. 

The build process was quick, the only hold ups were when I didn't supply information on time! The launch process was also seamless and hassle free. They are taking care of the maintenance and upkeep for me, and they also sorted the transfer of my domain from the previous site, again without needing me to do much. For a busy sole trader, taking it all off my hands like that was and is very important.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

My website is now performing as it should do and highlights exactly why people should hire me. It shows off my past track record and main sales points very nicely. 

The overall outcome is that I now have the single best website of any freelancer in my field. It also has functionality that will allow me to expand my reach nationally and (if I get it right) expand my business easily.

The project management throughout was excellent. We did a mix of in-person meetings, virtual meetings and instant messaging that was prompt and active without feeling pushy. We managed to get questions answered and solve problems quickly which is vital. 

At the same time, it didn't put a huge burden on me. I wrote the site (as it's my area of expertise), but I never felt like I was being asked to do lots of busy work. They took it all off my hands and I had confidence from the start that the project was being managed effectively. 

Everything was on time and done to the standard promised.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I like that they are a close knit team. Web agencies are often sprawling organisations that don't offer value for money and don't stick to deadlines. There's also always a point with most web agencies where they go dark and you can't get anything from them. Getting a website update can be like squeezing blood from a stone - it seems to be how the sector operates as standard and it's unbelievably annoying.

With Riot & Rebel that was not the case. Whether it's a consequence of them being a compact team or it's just how they operate, the level of communication they offered was both impressive and unique to my experience. I'd say it's enough to recommend them on its own, particularly if you've ever found a web agency to be irritating and hard to get hold of. 

Another point is that Alex can do design as well as coding. If you have exposure to the industry, you will know how rare this is.

No, I was completely satisfied from start to finish. They should probably charge more if anything.

Completely usable and easy to update ourselves

Growth and expansion built in from the start. We wanted to be able to add new services, sectors, video types, case studies, as well as create custom landing pages, and more. Essentially everything should be editable for us.

Short term:

Increasing the number of pages on our website considerably. 

Easy of updating and building content ourselves.

The project was managed well from R&R side. 

Virtual meetings were infrequent once the project started, but email communication was frequent, detailed and thorough.

Our responses and needs were willingly met, but the team's expertise and opinions challenged them when necessary.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

In the prospecting stage, I found Louise's detail, structure and management very impressive. We had a series of calls over months while we were deciding who, what and when, and Louise would always show up informed and had recapped notes from previous meetings. It felt like she knew the project better than we did.  

In the project, it was Alex's design eye, attention to detail and ultimately the solutions he found to challenges we had.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Riot and Rebel could have done differently?

The only area for improvement would be to have an open diaglouge at the beginning of the project about timings and both parties actions. We ended up holding up the project due a huge amount of content that needed to be created, and if we'd spoken about that in more detail at the start, it could've meant launching the site sooner.
