I'm a supervisor of marketing operations for StarTech.com, a technology parts manufacturer.

What challenge were you trying to address with Res.im?

We reached out to Res.im to leverage their customer research skills to get feedback from our users regarding our website's user experience, so their design team could then come up with improvements.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Res.im helped us define our new user experience, conducting workshops, research, and customer interviews in the process. They've helped reposition content and dropdown menus and provided wireframes for us to take to a developer to implement onto our site.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contacts are Jonathan (President, Res.im), Brian (User Experience Researcher & Strategist, Res.im), Diana (Designer, Res.im), and Chantel (Project Manger, Res.im).

How did you come to work with Res.im?

Res.IM was referred to us by a former executive colleague of mine.

We've invested about $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in 2015 and the relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've received tons of positive feedback from our audience from the changes Res.im helped us implement. They modernized the look and feel of our website and significantly improved its user experience overall.

How did Res.im perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management skills are strong; they've managed to be responsive to our needs, even though they're not 100% dedicated to our account. They're attentive, follow up reguarly, and respond fairly quickly when we need to reach them. We've mostly organized project milestones within Excel spreadsheets, and been able to meet with them in person somewhat often.

What did you find most impressive about them?

In addition to their UI/UX design capabilities, Res.im is uniquely strong in the space of primary user research. They're a data-driven design firm, so all of their suggestions are backed by thorough research. They're also extremely professional and polite to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. However, I'd like to see their company grow and take advantage of larger opportunities.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Meet each member of their team and get a sense of their specific roles. Other than that, I definitely recommend working with them; they prioritize the interests of the client and go above and beyond what's expected of them.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the co-founder of a new, free job app for students looking for part-time or full-time work. The app filters jobs based on location, and users can swipe left or right to choose to apply for open jobs or remove them from their list. The mobile version links to a website where employers can post jobs and screen candidates.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Res.im?

We needed a team to develop the app for us. Since our background is in marketing and advertising, we were looking for a UX, design, and coding specialist who could make our vision come to life.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built the prototype for our app and walked us through focus group testing before we went live. When we met with them, they gave us feedback and suggestions for the UX. We listened to their comments and let them run the development. To save time and eliminate issues after the launch, they recommended working out all the issues before we went live. The focus group was very good, and the simplicity of the app made the whole process very easy.

What is the team composition?

Jonathan (President, Res.im) was our main point of contact for the project. He managed the team on his side.

How did you come to work with Res.im?

A contact of ours collaborated with a designer who recommended them. This was the first time we’d built an app, so having a team who could teach us about the whole process and build the prototype was very helpful. We met with them, liked what we saw of their work, and decided to hire them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $15,000–$20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in the fall of 2016. We finished working on the prototype around September 2017 and went live in November 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

User testing went really well, and we’ve won several contests. Most of our users feel the app is extremely easy to use. Our whole brand aims to make recruiting easy and something users could do from their couch. Even though we live in a digital world, there weren’t digital solutions for young applicants looking for work. The app fills that gap.

How did Res.im perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t use any project management tools, but they sent breakdowns of the schedule and timelines for projected delivery dates. They were often ahead of schedule and would send us things all the time. We spoke on the phone regularly, and we could review and make changes to anything that didn’t feel right the first time. There was never any pushback, but they were always willing to explain why certain solutions were better than others.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They really listened to what we wanted, and they brought our vision to life. We were in constant communication, and they were always available to answer our questions. The partnership was awesome; they were very supportive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I really enjoyed working with them, and I can’t think of any areas they need to improve.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have an idea of what you want to accomplish and be open to their suggestions. You’re paying them for their expertise, and they may recommend adjustments that will make your product better.
