We hired Redops to re-build Sleep Aid Fan from scratch on both iOS and Android. The previous versions of the apps, which had been built by other developers, were coded in such a way that left unresolvable bugs and needed to be entirely re-done. We also wanted to implement a new design with the rebuilds, too.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I've worked with Tigran and his team on many prior projects, so when we decided to transition this app to a more capable development team, working with them again was the obvious choice.

We provided a list of requirements for the app to replicate its existing functionality and to add a few new improvements and features, as well as the new design. We also provided access to the existing apps. With those materials, their team built the entire app again and delivered highly functional, nearly complete test builds. After a few rounds of testing and feedback, we were ready to launch the first re-built app and then moved on to follow the same process with the next one.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We primarily work with a project manager and owner of the company. We hired our own favorite designer separately, and all collaborate very well together.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Since re-building the apps, we've seen a decrease in support requests as well as higher ratings in the app stores. The higher ratings encourage more downloads, resulting in higher revenue for the app.

We typically communicate over Slack, which is my personal preference. They typically estimate a timeline and work for a few weeks, during which they will reach out when they have any questions but otherwise we don't expect much communication until we're ready for testing. Once we're ready for testing, they are quick to make changes based on our feedback and provide new test builds.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We love Redops, they always do great work with fair pricing and people who are enjoyable to work with. We will be happy to continue hiring them for every new project and update!

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No, they are very responsive and easy to work with, if there is any issue at all they always make it right

We wanted to create an app to allow out industry partners create rough order of magnitude budgets for their projects. We also wanted to enable our clients and industry partners to have access to various technical information through the mobile devices.

We interviewed 5 mobile app developers and we were impressed with Redtops depth of knowledge, willingness to work with our team and help us walk through the entire app development process.

We had two of their team members to work with our team to create a flow chart of the entire program, they helped our team finalize the flow for the entire program and also came up with three different user interfaces. Sample screen designs were submitted to us for review, after approval, we were requested to submit sample date to their team and within 45 days we had the first version delivered to us.

With the exception of a few minor cosmetic changes that our team requested, the program has been flawless.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have received amazing feedback from our clients and from our industry partners. The app has already helped us get two projects within three weeks of release of the app to our clients and out industry partners.

The project manager was very organized, communicated very effectively and in a timely manner. He provided weekly status for the project and provided what they were going to completed within the next 1-2 weeks of each call.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their depth of knowledge, flexibility, and speed of their work is impressive. In addition, since they had assessed the project requirements adequately, there were very minor change orders and less than 5% cost increase to the initial quoted project total.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Frankly, I cannot think of any improvements. We are already planning on engaging them to develop other apps for us.

It's difficult to say the impact because we've been on the AppStore for just a couple of days, but they meet all of our requirements, and everything's on time.

They reply to my questions fast and fix our problems immediately. In terms of communication, we typically use phone calls and Asana for project management.

What were your goals for this project?

My goal was to create a user-friendly and visually appealing way to use video profiles to connect people who share a worldview. Because this was a brand new idea and the first version of the App, I had no tangible outcomes in mind.

How did you select this vendor?

I quickly realized I didn't have access to funds required to hire a US-based firm. Knowing nothing about tech in general or how to find a quality developer, I thought that was the end of it. A friend who had previously worked with MagicDevs referred me to them.

My original plan was to develop an MVP. However, MagicDevs was able to develop the entire app including several features I was planning for the next version for a reasonable price.

I know nothing about tech or development. I went to MagicDevs with a list of features and a structure of how I wanted the app to look and work. From my basic visual concept, they came back with a beautiful design.

Features include video-based profiles, search/match, and chat. In addition to design and development (both iOS and Android), they walked me through basic steps like testing the app, joining apple developer, and other concepts that are foreign to me as tech is not my background.

What was the team composition?

We were assigned a project manager who was very communicative throughout the process. I was told there were 5 people working on the team: Designer, iOs developer, Android developer, PHP/MySQL/back-end developer, and QA-PM, though I only connected with the project manager and the owner.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

This is a new company and a new app. I don't have any metrics of success as we have not yet launched.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was very communicative over email. They used Teamwork as their project management software and gave me access to follow status and answer questions. There were absolutely no issues resulting from language barriers or my lack of tech knowledge.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were very responsive to feedback. I'm pretty particular about how I want things to look and feel, and they worked with me on multiple rounds of revisions. MagicDevs seems committed to the final product. I really appreciated their willingness to walk me through the steps to get the App live. Many of those were not directly related to development.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The only area for improvement that stood out to me was their QA process. There were a few times they sent me "final versions" that had bugs.

They totally rewrote one of our main iOS apps from scratch, and they wrote a completely new iOS app for us. I suggested some new functionality, and they delivered on all my requests. They're currently working on an Android app.

We asked them to rewrite that existing iOS app to resolve some reliability issues we had with it. Since launching their rewrite, we've had no bugs or problems at all. Their work is well received by the internal team, and we're very pleased with them.

They use Teamwork as their project management software, and I can review and comment on their work at any time. Their process is very well organized.

There are no skills issues, and they're reasonably priced. It's rare to find an expert company with such attractive pricing.

They should expand their team to better keep up with all the projects we'd like them to do.

I would certainly recommend them. There is no reason not to use them, though we'd naturally like to keep them to ourselves.

Even with the most intricate design and elaborate functionality, the product launch is what matters. MagicDevs LTD tested the product well, and we share feedback as needed. As our product matures, we may not be able to test every function or iteration, so their commitment to quality assurance is critical.

What outcomes or results can you share that demonstrate progress and/or success?

The app is now live on the App Store with no bugs. It’s performing well and functioning exactly the way we wanted it to. That is about as good as you can expect.

Our interaction was extremely effective. Everyone worked extremely well together. I have a lot of experience in mobile development, so between that and their expertise and professionalism, everything went smoothly. We never ran into any delays or major setbacks.

We were exploring a new opportunity to develop an app that provided a user friendly diet calculator for people following the Fasting Mimicking Method system. There is not anything similar available and the target market would be all those who have purchased the book produced currently in Italy, but soon to be published in the UK. We needed a reliable and fast-working service provision to develop this app and were recommended MagicDevs Ltd.

The scope of the work involved developing the app from scratch all the way through to going live on Google Play and App Store. The scope included strategy, design, development, integration, and support. All aspects of the scope of work were managed by MagicDevs Ltd and the project lasted two months.

The project is complete, and the website is user-friendly and looks professional. The apps are live on the App Store and Google Play. Traffic to the website increased by more than 100%, and the SEO programs are still attracting attention. So, we expect continued increases in website visits and traffic. Everyone has noticed our expanding client base and overall sales growth.

They suggested useful solutions and helpful ways to approach certain problems.

MagicDevs is easy to work with. They followed all the timelines and were always accessible to answer any of my questions. We communicated by email and phone call.

We are a supplier of web-based service management solutions. Our typical customers are companies which employ field engineers for the installation, repair, and maintenance of anything from railway tracks to air-conditioning units and telephone poles.

What challenge were you trying to address with MagicDevs?

We were in need of iOS development skillsets. We have our own development team, and had built an Android application, but needed more advanced iOS knowledge in order to get the project over the line.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

MagicDevs was given our working Android app and was asked to help with the migration to iOS. I don’t have visibility into the development team itself. All our interactions are with their president, Tigran Aslanyan.

Our software manages the workers of a large utility and transportation service. Those workers are in charge of fixing underground tracks every evening. Up to 100 crews of 10-15 people each get their work assignments through an iPad, and all the health-and-safety documentation needed by them is included in the app. They’re told what section of the track to go to across the city. We lose coverage underground, but the app can switch to offline mode, continue to manage the crews overnight, and collect specific information including photographs, signatures, attendance records, procedure plans and more technical items like shared notices. Each crew used to have almost two suitcases-worth of work to bring on each shift, but they’re now paperless.

We’ve had a number of other engagements with MagicDevs, mostly for iOS integration of our solutions at different levels. They’ve written a number of web services, and we’ve had logic discussions on how the data transfer can be handled on the mobile side.

How did you come to work with MagicDevs?

I believe we came across them a few years ago on a dev site like Freelancer. MagicDevs had a decent portfolio, and we had an initial conversation with Tigran, who understood our concepts quickly. We typically use freelancing websites when we’re overloaded, and had worked with teams from Asia, who promised everything, but didn’t have a portfolio to back it up. MagicDevs was able to provide reasonable estimates and demonstrate similar types of work to ours. In a sense, they had more credibility than the others, so I decided to give them a small project and try them out.

How much have you invested with MagicDevs?

I don’t have an exact figure, but I’m guessing that the cost of their work has been between $50,000 and $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our first correspondence with MagicDevs was in October 2014. We have constant ongoing projects with them.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The bigger customers we’re dealing with have tremendous amounts of scope creep, which is not an issue related to MagicDevs. In general terms, they’ve hit deadlines within 5-10%, and with 90% of the work passing quality testing on the first attempt. I never heard complaints from our project managers about the performance of a developer. We measure our own developers against those of MagicDevs, in terms of quality, fail rates and QA.

We front the relationship with our customers, so they don’t actually know where the software is being built. They’re heavily dependent on applications, and around seven or eight customers have been using the work done by MagicDevs. In terms of live apps crashing, our only issue was related to an expired Apple distribution license that would not allow us to roll out updates; it was our own fault.

How did MagicDevs perform from a project management standpoint?

I am responsible for setting up the relationship with MagicDevs. Our own project managers come to me with financial and big-picture matters. Our two-to-three project managers and developers have all had a good working relationship with MagicDevs.

We have a reasonably good process of drawing up scope documents. MagicDevs has normally met our time and budget estimates. The scope creep is due to customers, but we generally try to avoid it. We generally lean towards giving MagicDevs work, rather than our own team.

MagicDevs does have a couple of tools in place, and they have given us logins, but we use workflow management software which we’ve built in-house. Our primary communication channel is Skype, which is used for meetings.

What did you find most impressive about MagicDevs?

There is solid delivery at competitive pricing on their end. From time to time, when we were under pressure, Tigran jumped in to help us.

Are there any areas MagicDevs could improve?

We are working project-to-project, but we should elaborate more strategic roadmaps with MagicDevs. Currently, we work by defining specifications and, based on need, making an update down the line. A bit more of a strategic collaboration method and R&D based on customer needs would be an improvement.

It would also be nice to sit down with their team in the same room from time to time. We’ve worked through this, but there’s definitely a drop in efficiency of 10-20%.
