What challenge were you trying to address with Red Hawk Technologies?

We needed Red Hawk Technologies to construct a web-based customer portal from the ground up.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially had a discovery meeting with Red Hawk Technologies about our goals, the portal’s functionality, and how we’d leverage existing technologies. Once they understood the assignment, we went into the design phase. We worked with their design team and looked into wireframes, proofs of concept, and marketing to ensure the brand and functionality were aligned. We used Figma during this process. After we approved the design, we started the development process. 

Part of the development was the backend server side. They created a customer identity management system to assign roles and access to our customers. The team leveraged Azure products to host and maintain the app and used Azure AD to create the customer identity features. 

At present, Red Hawk Technologies is working on the project’s second phase. In terms of features, the portal allows customers access to meaningful information by leveraging Microsoft Power BI. Customers can log in and access various reports through security protocols. Instead of having to log into the Microsoft product, we white-label it and embed it into the portal.

The engagement started in August 2024, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our customer feedback and engagement are up. Specifically, our customer engagement has increased by over 70%. We’ve gained the ability to roll out new solutions quickly without needing additional developers, which has been great for cost savings and time. We’re around 80% more productive. 

How did Red Hawk Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They communicate well, and the project is being done on time. We’ve gone over budget, but we’ve worked on being more forward in communicating how many hours will be spent on my requests. To communicate, we use Microsoft Teams and Google Meetings.

They could be better at forecasting the hours that will be allocated to tasks.

Red Hawk Technologies has worked on developing our mobile apps. They’re both available on Android and iOS devices, and the team continues to work on them for further improvements. They have an agile development process where we have weekly check-ins. They’ve also done design work for us.

I work directly with their CEO, while my team works with 5–6 people including the CEO. One of his partners leads the development, along with 3–4 developers.

We had a bad experience with another developer, so we did a second search for a good developer. Our team started locally and discovered Red Hawk Technologies through a business connection.

The internal app developed for our team’s efficiency has eliminated a lot of time waste — we’ve made our internal team members immensely more efficient. Our frontline members have reduced the time they spend on administrative tasks by 50%. Meanwhile, the second app, which is meant for our customers, has helped reposition our business in terms of what we offer from a customer experience perspective.

Red Hawk Technologies’ project management is excellent. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re small enough that their leadership team is involved in the day-to-day business relationships and oversight of project management. Red Hawk Technologies is extremely responsive to our needs, and they work fast in terms of development. 

The most impressive thing is that they’re good at keeping their commitments. The team is timely and always has ideas — they always do their homework when we come together for our weekly meetings. Overall, they’re one of the best teams when it comes to keeping their commitment to the mobile app development space.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. Our team has had a bad experience with a different vendor before, but we’re currently truly happy with everything that Red Hawk Technologies has done so far.

Know your goals and have a specific understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish. Communicate that effectively to them and follow their lead.

Red Hawk Technologies developed a database to manage our client intake. When it came time to install the database on our computers, Red Hawk Technologies’ programmer took control over them and ensured everything was adequately integrated. Now that the initial project is complete, we’ll soon begin working on database enhancements with Red Hawk Technologies.

I’m extremely satisfied with Red Hawk Technologies because they’re efficient and nice to work with. However, we’re not measuring any metrics.

I was the director of learning and development at a food and beverage company.

What business challenge or opportunity were you trying to address?

We were in the midst of a sales development campaign, and one of our goals was to create a better customer-facing opportunity. We had a hard copy type of proposal for a customer that had that same packaging as a previous customer’s proposal. It had calculators and tables to help the customer figure out a menu.We had just a great in-depth manual system that we had figured out, but we wanted to streamline it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped create an online program where users could select any of our 3,000 products by product number, description, or any number of other filters. There was also information about the products’ nutritional value and other attributes.

Before Red Hawk started doing any building or development, we had multiple lengthy meetings together where they came in and got to know the foodservice business. It’s a complex industry, and they spent time learning its intricacies. They tried to get a good depth of knowledge as far as our challenges and what we were up against.

After selecting their items, they could open a calculator to measure the cost of their plate and then fit it into their menu. There were six total steps our sales people would walk the prospective client through.

You could also calculate the margins they could make from selling those plates. It was very detailed. There weren’t any other products available from anyone that we could have used off-the-shelf.

We worked with quite a few people, probably up to around 30.

Our IT department was already working with Red Hawk as a consultant and third-party provider for multiple other projects. Chris (Project Manager) was our assigned contact within Red Hawk

We spent around $220,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from March 2014–November 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It’s a bit of a challenge trying to measure the tools we create, but we were specifically focused on trying to reduce the amount of time it took for our salespeople to prepare for calls. After delivering their product, Red Hawk cut down our prep time from three hours to 30 minutes.

They were extremely involved in the rollout as well, jumping on conference calls and video calls and even doing in-person meetings.

How did Red Hawk Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We had continuous conversations and meetings where they would give updates on the steps that they took. This allowed us to ensure that they were on target always while moving through a big build.

They provided a program that gave us access to what they were doing, allowing us to see where things were. They also sent documents back and forth. We had in-person communication, as our offices were only 30 minutes away from each other.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed with how they took the time to learn our business and understand it before going into development. Their thoroughness and eagerness to understand our scenario completely stood out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’re such an unexplored area of the industry that it’s hard to say, but I think, maybe there could have been something that we could look into quicker, rather than having only in-depth diagrams. This is just a case of a salesperson wanting something faster than is possible.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

For one, I would go for it. And second, allow them to come into your product while also being hands-on yourself. This will make your product come out much better.

I’m the IT director of a company based in Ohio. We provide care to individuals with developmental disabilities across the state. I’m responsible for all of the technology needs of the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Red Hawk Technologies?

We needed help with account lifecycle management. We have 7–8  disconnected software systems. Our employees’ accounts had to be manually created inside each system, security permissions assigned, and then accounts had to be manually deleted upon termination. We hired Red Hawk to create a process that would automate that entire lifecycle.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Red Hawk is helping us create a system to automate our account management lifecycle. The solution will create our employees’ accounts across all our software platforms when activated into our HR system. Then, the moment they’re deactivated, the solution will terminate the accounts.

At first, Red Hawk assigned a resource to us who spent a lot of time getting to know us and understanding our process, vision, and how we wanted the solution to look. We talked about our everyday circumstances and the exceptions and outlier cases for them to ensure that the code could handle those situations. This was so we wouldn’t have a long-term maintenance project on our hands or a product that only handles 98% of our workload. 

Once we got through the visioning and whiteboard process, we discussed scenarios and solutions. Over the past three years, Red Hawk has worked through six of our major systems, integrating the solution for each one, and we still have more to address.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with Matt (Partner & CEO) since day one. We also have a project manager, and I’ve worked with three different developers who have cross-training and cross-functionality. This way, if one developer is out, we still have two teammates we can lean on to support the process. 

How did you come to work with Red Hawk Technologies?

They were referred to us through a technology association. I reached out to this association to begin an RFP process, they gave us 4–5 references, and we went to each of them to figure out who would be the best fit. 

Although Red Hawk was a little more expensive than other companies, they fit us best when it came down to it. They understood our needs the most and could work with us right away; we didn’t have to wait for a resource to be available. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2019, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Red Hawk’s work has helped reduce helpdesk tickets. Before this project, supervisors had to create a service request for access when they had a new employee. As we start bringing more systems into the mix, there’s less that has to be done manually, and access requests are becoming fewer and fewer. 

How did Red Hawk Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

I wish more companies used Red Hawk’s method for project management — it’s wonderful. Communication happens through email and Google Meet. We have a weekly virtual meeting, and then they send an email with the notes attached. I don’t know what they use internally to manage sprints because there’s nothing that I have to manage or maintain, which is super simple as a customer. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with Red Hawk’s developers and how much they care. They really are an extension of our IT department — they’re part of my IT family.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s nothing at all they need to improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Just go for it! Red Hawk handles projects the way they should be; they ask questions, learn and understand the process, ask for expectations, and make sure goals are met. They don’t drag their feet or do things halfway —  if you want a project done, Red Hawk will get it done.

 I’m the owner of a credit card processing company that works for government entities, including recorder’s offices, police departments, courts, utility organizations, and tax departments.

What challenge were you trying to address with Red Hawk Technologies?

We didn’t handle online payments before working with Red Hawk, so they designed an online payment portal for us and built it from the ground up.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Taking my idea in laymen’s terms, they turned it into a technically coded product. This development was the first part of the project. Secondly, they developed a reporting system that combines our existing face-to-face data with our new online payment information for easy dissemination to my staff. We even went further and developed a more simplified version of the portal for our merchants to view.

All the solutions are web-based, and we also gave them some Android hardware that they are currently looking into. We’re waiting to implement them because of some details involved with the payment system.

I don’t remember how I initially found them, but they’re somewhat local to us, as they’re in Kentucky and we’re in Ohio.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The online platform now makes up 40% of our business, and that’s not even excluding the portal that goes out to our customers. This has given us a new income source and a whole new product to market.

How did Red Hawk Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve had some of our conversations over webinars and some face-to-face, and they’ve accommodated us based on our dates. I’ve even had them come into meetings and do presentations on my behalf when the information was more technical than I was prepared for.  

They are always on time to their estimates, and we’ve always come in under budget. I give them a call when we need something, usually when we’re starting a new project. When they have an issue, they can put it in a ticket and we can click on it to see their concerns. We have an ongoing, day-to-day collaboration.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re able to understand what I’m asking for and then generate a project based off of that description. What’s more, they speak to us in laymen’s terms; even though they’re software developers, we haven’t had an issue communicating with them even though I’m not a software developer.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I was just talking to one of my partners today about how wonderful they are. There’s nothing they could make better. We’re lucky to have partnered up with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would definitely recommend working with Red Orchid. Look around and see what’s out there, but I’m confident that you’ll come back to Red Hawk at the end of the day. They’re easy to get a hold of and communicate clearly.

What challenge were you trying to address with Red Hawk Technologies?

We worked with Red Hawk Technologies to develop an iOS and Android app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team walked us through the differences in building an app and website. They also helped us determine the appropriate e-commerce functions and notifications on the platform. Then, they built the app using React Native. In addition, the team set us up with Firebase. We’re currently figuring out how Red Hawk Technologies can support our app’s next version, and we’re also figuring out how to expand our engagement with them.

What is the team composition?

We’re working with Ron (Owner) and their project manager, lead designer, and developer. We also with their back-office person.

How did you come to work with Red Hawk Technologies?

We received referrals after we reached out to our networks, and their team stood out as we were doing our search. We were located in Cincinnati and their team was in northern Kentucky, so they were literally right across the river. Overall, it was helpful that we found someone local, but it wasn’t really a requirement.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested roughly $150,000–$200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership started in May 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

With their work, we can push messages to approximately 20,000 users. We’re really impressed with their understanding of our business needs. They craft solutions based on our needs and priorities and where we want to put our app in the future roadmaps of our business. Furthermore, when it comes to UI, they understand how a member will interact with an app or website, and they make great suggestions on that.

How did Red Hawk Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been helpful throughout the entire process, and they’re doing extremely well from a project management perspective. Their dedicated project manager also does a great job of keeping everybody on task. Being upfront with expectations as we go into meetings is probably one of their strengths. Additionally, they’re flexible even if we need to change our directions often. We communicate using phone calls, email, and Google Hangouts.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’ve been really a great partner to us, telling us their best practices. Above all, they’re good at asking the right questions, getting to the heart of what we need.

Set a clear expectation upfront about what’s really important. Remember they’re only as good as the information that you give them, so the more you share about your business, roadmap, and pain points, the better they’re going to be.
