We are a payment service provider working with retailers. I am a product developer for the company, as part of our two-person team.

What challenge were you trying to address with RD DEV Solutions?

We needed to build the frontend and backend of one of our payment services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built interfaces to other web services we were using, as well as a basic administration service for our team. They used AngularJS on the frontend and Node.js on the backend.

What is the team dynamic? 

They’re a small company, so the developer was the same person doing the coordination with our side.

How did you come to work with RD DEV Solutions?

We found them through Upwork and made the choice based on their geographical location and the test work they provided. We tested a few different providers.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of their work was between $10,000 and $12,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in August 2016 and finished the major job at the end of the year. We spent a few more months making fixes, which were completed in February 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The product itself is key to our company. The actual development work was only one part of the effort; there was also planning, architecture and product management involved, which we handled ourselves. They did a great job developing the solution, but it’s hard to share metrics.

How did RD DEV Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Our developer was also the project manager and provided good communication. When we put extra priority on a task, he made an extra effort to meet our deadlines. We used Skype for communication and logged the work using Google Spreadsheets, through a dedicated document.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have good English skills relative to other developers from the region. They have solid technical knowledge, and were easy to deal with — they’re open to changes and discussions on how to solve issues.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really. It was a small project, run by ourselves, and using our own tools and approach.

We needed someone to manage our frontend development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The platform is Java-based, but the frontend is JavaScript and SCSS and TypeScript. RD DEV works mainly on the frontend, but they also help us with certain backend tasks as well, which we do. We also take care of UI/UX, AWS integration, and the API.

What is the team dynamic?

I’m the project manager, and I speak directly to their frontend developer and office manager. They have a small team, but one of them is dedicated solely to us.

How did you come to work with RD DEV Solutions?

We found them on Upwork. We did a trial round and liked their work, so we hired them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $10,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in July and the project is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re still in the dev stage, so it’s too early for in-depth feedback. Some clients have beta tested it, and they really like it, though. The developer on our team said RD DEV has done a great job so far.

How did RD DEV Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re flexible and willing to function within our workflow and project management tools. We use Jira for task management and Telegram for communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

RD DEV quickly produces high-quality work and provides insightful feedback and collaboration, which we really appreciate. They maintain constant communication, are easy to talk to, and let us bounce ideas off them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be great if they offered backend support.

We had UI development needs for some modules on a particular project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped with frontend development on Angular 2 for an e-commerce platform. The platform is a global product for resellers.

What is the team dynamic?

I worked with Igor [Full Stack Developer, RD Dev]. There were 5 developers including QA. Some of them worked for us full-time employ. How did you come to work with RD Dev? I found them on Upwork. They had Angular 2 knowledge, which is rare. Usually, it’s Angular.js, which is what we were moving away from. They had multiple experts, rather than just one.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in December 2016 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were able to onboard them really quickly to the project and they integrated easily with the core team. Because they stuck to the deadline, we were able to deliver on our promises to our client, which we initially overestimated with the core team that we have. RD Dev allowed us to be on time. They have an expert capacity.

How did RD Dev perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well and I was happy with the communication. We communicate mostly through Slack, Skype, Microsoft Teams, and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a well-structured team. We get a well-functioning team rather than just a group of individuals.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They may be able to improve on the development process side in how they manage the development process itself.
