I’m the head of marketing for Space Capital, a venture capital firm focused on space technology.

What challenge were you trying to address with Quimby Digital?

We didn’t want to bring in-house a social media team, so we hired Quimby Digital.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Quimby Digital basically acts as our social media team, just not in-house. They manage our social media for two different brands, handling content, design, scheduling, and all the community aspects of social media that our in-house team can’t handle. Their team runs our social media on multiple platforms, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky.

Furthermore, Quimby Digital is responsible for creating our social media assets, including images, GIFs, and short videos. They remix our YouTube channel videos, which usually range between 30 seconds to a minute. They also create copy and respond to comments and messages on our social media. Initially, we provided them with a brief, but we no longer have to do that.

On a one-off basis, they do design work for us. For example, they’ve designed our newsletter templates for Space Capital and Space Talent.

What is the team composition?

We work with various people from their team, including Anna and 2–3 people who design the assets and create copy. Other people also step in when needed, including another account coordinator and Ashley.

How did you come to work with Quimby Digital?

I found them through a regular Google search. I was also looking at Fiverr and other platforms. After talking to about five different agencies, I landed on Quimby Digital. They gave us a great deal and were more responsive. We could work with them one-on-one without feeling like we were part of a large conglomerate.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $60,000 in the beginning. Now, we spend around $100,000 per year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Quimby Digital has established a strong social presence for Space Capital and Space Talent. They’ve helped us grow our engagement and translate technical content into digestible strategic storytelling. They’ve also driven awareness. We’ve seen a 50% growth year over year for our LinkedIn account for Space Talent. For Space Capital, we’ve seen about a 15% growth.

Moreover, they’ve been able to manage two different brands and write about very technical products. They’ve been able to get up to speed on all of those items quickly. They’ve also written unique copy for different portfolio companies and Space Capital investments. They’ve created a process with our team that allows us to talk about news items and portfolio companies without us having to tell them. They’re quite independent with us giving feedback.

Their copy is also great, and the design they use for many of our assets perfectly fits within our brand scheme without us having to do much work.

How did Quimby Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

In terms of project management, they’re quite excellent. They always meet our monthly schedule. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t have content that would be able to go out regularly. They try to be as early as possible. They follow a three-week priority schedule, where they look to fill out the month to make sure our schedules are on time in terms of creating copy and design. They always send it to our team for review and allow enough time for feedback. 

We typically communicate via email or Slack. They have a Slack channel that we’re all part of. I can also talk to them one-on-one. They’re usually responsive; I can always send them a message anytime, and they’ll respond a little later, which is perfectly fine.

We generally use Agorapulse, where they put all our social media posts for both brands across all platforms. We’re able to see past, present, and future posts. We usually have a Google document that gives them priorities based on topics, themes, and companies that they can focus on, which is directly updated quarterly. Secondly, they send out a weekly Google document that has high-priority think pieces they’d like to talk about based on the news sources they provide to our team to review and approve or reject.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're most impressed with their project management and ability to pivot.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Quimby Digital is an excellent brand agency, which is why I've recommended them to some of our portfolio clients. Their team is great at handling everything, even though we only use them for social media. They have different packages for every client and are willing to meet you where you are to find the best product for the best price. They’re also used to working with small to larger companies, so they can give a more custom package, which is helpful for startups and small companies.
