I am an electronic music DJ who plays club and local one-off shows.

I hired Queppelin to create a total of five animation loops which can be used as concert visuals during my live sets.

What were your goals for this project?

My goal was to have visual content created which I can use to improve the total production I could offer in a set as a DJ.

I found Queppelin through Upwork when they responded to my job posting seeking 2D and 3D animators, and selected them based on the pricing they offered, feedback they received from previous clients, and their profile on Upwork, as well as their prompt communication.

The project began when Nick responded to my job inquiry describing his team, linking to some animation they've done in the past, and offering a promotion. I proceeded to introduce myself and the work I do as an audio and video DJ, and discuss what I'm looking for in the animation loops.

I had several themes in mind relating to my DJ'ing brand, but allowed for flexibility in manifesting that vision from the animation team. Nick then asked to set up a Skype meeting to further discuss, in which I provided more detail of what I was looking for, as well as details regarding file formats and software I use as a video DJ.

The initial project we decided on was the following (message taken from Upwork):

"So for the first loop, we agreed that your team will focus on medical imagery with an occult/dance spin, so your animators can choose from designing a loop of between 5 - 30 seconds with their choice of imagery of skulls, skeletons, bones, blood vessels, neurons to accompany music similar to this effect".

I then provided some examples of VDJ loops to serve as references. Nick's team then began working on the project and completed it within five days, at which point Nick sent me the result for my feedback and approval.

Being satisfied with the work Nick's team did on the first project, I then laid out four options for additional projects I'd be interested in receiving from them, and provided a Google Drive link with some reference images and videos I compiled for them. Nick's team at Queppelin completed the second and third project promptly.

They then completed a fourth project and provided an updated version of the third project incorporating feedback and revisions I requested. I received the fifth and final animation on September 16th, after which we ended our Upwork contract because of lack of additional funds for more projects on my part.

I provided a positive review for Nick and his team through Upwork and let him know I would be interested in working together again in the future.

I liasoned directly with Nick, who i believe is the founder and president of Queppelin. He added one team member to our chat in Upwork, though our communications predominantly continued back and forth between Nick and I. I also met another team member during one of few Skype calls we had.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Nick's team produced a total of five animation loops for me in the span of about a month. I was particularly satisfied with their work because the loops contained a generous range of content which I am able to chop up and create even more content and loops out of, and the projects were done at an unbeatable price.

Additionally, Nick remained prompt in communication and follow-up throughout the project and we continue to liason regularly.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I found the workflow to be effective and was very satisfied with the speed of work and promptness of communication of Nick and his team at Queppelin.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was most impressed by the competence and speed of their work for the price they offered.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Although I was and continue to be happy with the animations I received, particularly for the price I paid, some of the effects amd transitions used looked basic. Nick was open to feedback around this and made edits as requested, however I did not feel the need to ask for more edits because I knew I can chop up the best footage to use on stage, and leave the less quality footage out.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

It has been a month that the product is implemented in my company and the learning & results have been great. Users did retake the demos, omit any unforeseen mistakes, and also diminish the realtime risk of handling minute hardware.

Pulkit and team were great. They were communicative and used standard tools & reports to manage the project.

Our solution was beta launched in June and saw a steady footfall. The efficiency of the system raised. The final launch saw another increase in the customer base and a reduction in our sales cycle.

Our clients who are the consulting arm of a global IT giant wanted to set up a global teams. The teams needed to be trained across various technologies with hands on experience. The challenge was to do this with synchronization across geographies, time zones and within stipulated time period. With the help of Queppelin's VR solutions, our delivery & content team created a customized offering for the client and deliver it as per the expectations.

We were able to provide the VR based training and achieve training across various technologies for our client teams. The desired result was well achieved.

Communication was great with the teams. Queppelin team used standard tools for effective project management including the use of Jira, and Basecamp.

The team work and timely communication. They were willing to go the extra mile for us.

Not sure but it would have been great if the last minute change requests could have been absorbed in the same cost.

I’m the founder and CEO of Tinggal, an online platform for budget hotels.

What challenge were you trying to address with Queppelin?

We needed help to develop and launch our web platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Queppelin helped us scope, build, and enhance our web platform. It’s a shared inventory platform for budget hotels in Indonesia that supports multiple languages and currencies. As a hotel site, it features a lot of high-resolution images, but the internet available in Indonesia isn’t that strong. One of the challenges was how to share high-resolution photos in a network with generally lower bandwidth. 

The team also helped us build the entire recommendation engine that looks at past transactions, user behaviors, and the sequence of purchase. Along with that, Queppelin built all the backend services, the entire CRM platform, and site optimization. They developed the end-to-end platform and ensured that it is mobile-friendly.

There were 3–4 people I was regularly in touch with. The team behind them had 7–8 people on a full-time basis.

Someone who had previously worked with Queppelin referred us to them.

We worked together from January–September 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We gave them a roadmap and timeline that Queppelin ultimately met. Post-launch, we measured their work in uptime, site speed, and load balancing. If there were any enhancements, those had different KPIs.

How did Queppelin perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was good. I’d give them 4.5 out of 5.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Queppelin had a very strong business sense. When we were recommending some enhancements, they actively gave us a customer perspective and encouraged us to look at the idea from a different angle, test it out, and see if it gets validated.

Since we didn’t have a CTO at that time, Queppelin was my go-to for technical guidance in a few interactions. They gave extremely neutral business advice that helped us structure the platform to be a lot more scalable from day one.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Queppelin could improve their communication. There wasn’t a lack of response, but I had a lot of Indonesians in my team, and due to accent issues, sometimes there were communication gaps.

What challenge were you trying to address with Queppelin?

We were in a pre-launch phase and were looking for a tech partner who could guide us, conceptualize the tech architecture and handle all our development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We wanted to develop our whole technology background, including our Java and PHP backend, which was to be used by employees and field agents. We also built a frontend customer website for desktop and mobile devices. Thirdly, we developed native mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. We had the option of creating cross-platform apps, but chose native development, since that could give us more control over future updates. Queppelin was in charge of specifications listing, technical architecture, wireframing, design, and development.

The product is still in the support phase, and we’ve continued to add new elements to it such as coupons for customers or new payment gateways.

What is the team dynamic?

My job is to handle all tech development and pass on our requirements to Queppelin’s team. They took care of the implementation process. They assigned a team of 7–8 people for our project including a project manager and developers.

How did you come to work with Queppelin?

There are many options in India, especially in the National Capital Region, and assessment and selection can be a tedious task from the client’s end. Since our backend was built predominantly in Java and PHP, we wanted a partner with a strong product development expertise, not just any app agency. Queppelin showed us some of their past work, including their technical expertise and methodology, which was a definite plus for them.

As a product company, our requirements change all the time, and we implement new features every 7 days. We needed to have confidence that our development team could implement those changes, and do it at a good pace. Pricing was another issue, since it was a large contract, originally for the development of the initial product, as well as for support.

The total has been above $100,000 so far, including the web backend, mobile apps and the customer-facing website.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Queppelin before the company launched, around November 2014. The relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The work so far has been great, and I have no complaints. As the director of engineering, I review all their work on a regular basis. I’m happy with the quality of code received.

Customers have given us positive feedback on our website and overall technology.

How did Queppelin perform from a project management standpoint?

This has evolved over time, as we have a long relationship with Queppelin. The project management and development methodologies were criteria that we looked at before hiring them, and they have performed well.

A couple of their members have worked out of our office, and we’ve also had 5–6 of our members work from theirs. Since we are close by, we’ve communicated over the phone on an almost daily basis.

I’ve worked with their project manager on a daily basis and with the developers on a bi-weekly basis. On a monthly basis, I’ve had meetings with Queppelin’s founders to provide feedback on the methodology changes we require.

Their product development experience is exceptional. Queppelin has been able to understand what we were trying to develop and made themselves an extension of our team.

We searched online, looked at clutch reviews, and contacted some of our sources in the industry. When we received satisfactory backing for Queppelin as a trustable company to work with we moved on with the partnership. Out deciding factors involved - Expert team, working experience in the field, portfolio and ofcourse the costings among others. They matched closely in all of them but one.

Our project involved the development of the entire 2d & 3d design, development of the game in unreal engine, animations inside the games, in app advertisements, payments, dashboarding and more. Someone who could take all of the project with little dependency on us.

The project was measured by each finalized 3d artwork produced by the team. It was a great working experience as Queppelin adhered to the timeline and provided us with quality work. The game was launched (Queppelin was there), the enthusiasm on discord groups as well as in app are tremendous.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We used the agile project management style so as to have leverage over the direction of the game art development. The characters, theme and assets must match the theme. We internally used skype for live communication and mantis for ticket management.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive quality is the great professionalism and management skills with which Queppelin worked. We received unique and catchy game characters, the environment was impressive and matched the game theme, and the game assets were highly functional. The development was great, some bugs readily resolved. The team supported heavily on the project management and communication.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The cost initially looked high, but we went ahead to gamble if the game didn’t go ahead as required. The output is far ahead of what we had expected.

This proved to be a great solution for us as it spared us from constantly having to explain every prospective buyer about the devices. We also observed that consumers were eager to scan the code and engage with the AR experience themselves. As a result, sales of the devices that had an AR Experience increased past the baseline amount at our store.

We wanted to organize our Founder’s day on the Metaverse. This was an internal event to be attended solely by our employees working in different geographical locations. Thereby, we aimed to explore the Metaverse for its possibilities of events like gatherings, product launches, press conferences, etc. So that we can conduct customer-oriented events as well in the future.

We researched online and checked out a few listing portals to select a few vendors. Then, we saw Queppelin’s work on the Tanishq project, we thought to use Queppelin Metaverse for our event as well. Going by the Tanishq event, we were convinced that they can handle our project and execute it as we want.

We approached Queppeling with our intention and it was them who conceptualized and executed the whole project. The project required the development of a customized Metaverse 3D environment where users can attend in their digital 3D avatars. It also required the creation of a stage to address the gathering and a seating area where employees can sit and watch the event.

We also ran a presentation on our growth journey as well as live video streaming. The video streams were to be displayed on a screen hovering on the stage. On the screen, live videos of our founders addressing the gathering, as well as live performances, were streamed. We also wanted that employees can attend the event even if they don't have VR headsets. Plus, we wanted them to make it a Web-based experience so anyone with the credentials can access it from anywhere.

Queppelin employed a team of 10-15 people working dedicatedly on our project. They also said that they can hire more for the project demanded. There was a project manager, 3D modelers, developers, animators, and an experience creator.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our employees really enjoyed the event. It was a quite unique experience for them. The event went on quite smoothly. Now, we are assured of the Metaverse as a potential platform it comes to reaching out to the users. We will keep on exploring it in the coming months.

It was a goal-based project involving a one-time settlement. They have to create a Metaverse and deliver it in 15 days. What we really found great about Queppelin is that they assigned a dedicated SPOC for us so that we can have fast and clear communication. They also kept us informed about each and every step of the project ad kept on taking our reviews so that the project is aligned with our goals. That is what really made this project a successful one.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Queppelin demonstrated great professionalism and project management skills. However, the most important aspect was their experience in developing a Metaverse experience. Since the Metaverse is a fairly new industry, it is really hard to find a reliable tech partner with adequate experience. Queppelin’s experience and a team of experts really helps us get what we wanted out of the project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Initially, we were reluctant due to the cost involved as Queppelin is not among the most inexpensive ones. However, once we went through the Metaverse event they created, we can see why it was worth the investment. We were really satisfied with the end product and that is what matters.
