What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

We were tasked with building a plug and play APIs in a very tight window. We had to service millions of calls with a very high throughput. We brought Moove It on during the planning phase of the project and they worked with us through execution and delivery.

They received the same scope of work that we were sent from the client. We needed to come up with the strategy and they executed.

For the initial phase of this project, they were responsible for delivering one possible solution based on our requirements. Their deliverables included potential stacks, languages, database solutions, build solutions. They identified the tech stack required to execute our vision and then they were able to deliver a timeline that would satisfy our customer needs.

Not only did they design the architecture for the solution, they helped write the code and build each component along the way.

The biggest team we worked with had 5 engineers. They were able to upscale and downscale as necessary.

Our management team was looking for an engineering team that could execute this, and I was brought on after they were hired. Management believes in a meritocracy. I think they set them up against our previous service provider on a project and Moove It blew it out of the water.

The project lasted from November 2018–September 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our goal was an architecture that could support 2 million calls per day with a throughput for 160 per second, but they delivered a system that supported a throughput of 1,000 per second. This was a crucial project for us—before working with Moove It, we had the potential to lose the customer, but Moove It helped us preserve that contract. Now we’re working on a new phase of the project, making it scalable for more customers.

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

They always delivered on time. Their management was top notch. I really connected with the team members I interacted with, and developed a personal and professional relationship with them. I can go to them for opinions outside the scope of their work.

They were tasked with constant reports and worked with us even though they were in a different time zone. That often meant working late nights or early mornings to ensure on-time delivery. Despite being an overseas team, their English was phenomenal.

We communicated with them using Jira Atlassian Suite, Slack, and Smartsheets. We had a project manager on our team as well that drove timelines. They gave Moove It tasks which were disseminated from the top level.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to execute without constant check-ins really sets them apart. They became so integrated within our organization, that they felt like part of our team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would be remiss to find something that they don’t do well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Let them do their work. At one point, our project manager was trying to do daily meetings, and the bureaucracy got in their way. Just trust them to get the job done for you.

Therapydia in a US-Based chain of Physical Therapy clinics devoted to retaining our patients for their lifetimes. We use ReferralJET to operated the clinics at scale, providing marketing automation, customer relationship management and business intelligence. I am the CEO of Therapydia.

The Project was effectively managed with two Therapydia employees spending a portion of their time interacting weekly with project managers in Uruguay.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were able to replace team members as needed with quality programmers. Efficient use of time. Good English language skills and convenient time zone. Flexibility in dealing with Covid impact on cash flow.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Could use a better third-party collaboration tools (we used Pivotal and the points system is not very useful at the CEO level)

I’m the marketing director of a company that offers a mobile application that allows users to find and navigate oil field locations across the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with December Labs?

We acquired the company in early 2019 and wanted to redesign the app from scratch.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

December Labs evaluated the initial version of our app. Their team then completely redesigned the platform.

We provided input on features and feedback from users. We discussed the flow and logic, so what we wanted to happen when users perform certain actions. 

Their team then designed mockups and made adjustments based on our feedback. After creating the mockups, they started the development.

We tested the app internally and then their team created a beta version that we tested with users. We then released the platform and got more feedback from live users.

They continue to add features and conduct research for us. We tell them what we want to do, and then their team figures out how to do it.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked directly with four people from December Labs including a project manager.

How did you come to work with December Labs?

We met at a startup incubator where we both had offices. They had a lot of clients in Houston, so their team came highly recommended.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent over $100,000 on their services so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in March 2019. We launched the new app in February 2020 but we’re still working with December Labs. Basically, they’re our outsourced developers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Their response time’s quick, addressing bugs within 24–48 hours. There’ve been a couple of bugs here and there, but those were mostly due to user errors.

Their team frequently pushes out updates that have greater impacts on users. We broke our sales record in March, which was a team effort. Now, the app has all five-star reviews. All of our new users love the platform.

How did December Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Their team communicates well and meets deadlines. Although, no one’s perfect and we’ve had delays. If the delays become significant, they don’t charge us for the extra time. Their team’s great about working through weekends.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their commitment to their work is their most impressive quality. For example, the project manager’s wife was in labor and he was still on the line with us addressing an issue.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not at this time. It would always be nice for their rates to be lower but that’s an unrealistic expectation.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Work with them through the process. They have expert designers who can give you recommendations. If their team doesn’t have specific expertise, they’ll find someone who does.

I’m the CEO of BucksApp, which is a fintech company in the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

We needed a software company to completely develop the BucksApp mobile application. We wanted to hire a team of developers, coders, and a project manager to lead the development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Moove It dedicated frontend and backend teams as well as a project manager to this project. They coded and integrated the platform with our partners. Their team also worked on the mobile version’s frontend.

They created the platform's screens and UX. A couple of their team members also researched our competition and best practices. Now, their team’s working on a new model to launch

What is the team composition?

The size of the team varies based on our needs. In the beginning, we had a team of around 6–10 people to get the app started. When we launched, we lowered the efforts to 2–4 people to reduce costs. We increased the number of resources to 6–10 to work on our new model.

How did you come to work with Moove It?

We looked at various companies and landed on Moove It. They offered not only the best quality but also the best communication.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent anywhere between $10,000–$20,000 a month on their services depending on the size of the team and the hours worked on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the project around August 2019, and we’re still working together.

We’re satisfied with Moove It. Their team is experienced and produces excellent work.

Their communication’s always good too. They also have a convenient way of working. Overall, we’re satisfied with their services.

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

We worked with a project manager who assigned tasks, led calls, and provided us with weekly updates. We had daily phone calls to track the development’s progress. There was almost constant communication.  

Instead of calling to go back and forth, we tracked their progress remotely.mThey upload every person’s tasks to a project board that everyone can access, so there was great visibility. We were able to see each person’s tasks and their completion. It was effective.

In the beginning, we missed a few deadlines, which happens with development projects. Their team’s knowledgeable and motivated.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m able to interact with everyone on their team, which I appreciate. I have a close relationship with their CEO and CTO. Their leadership team’s willing to contribute, which you can’t find in many other companies.

At the beginning of the project, I took a trip to Uruguay and realized that this was a long-term relationship. From the top to the bottom of the company, they’re always there for us. Their entire team is willing to take our call or schedule a meeting.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their team could work on their schedules. They may set deadlines that aren’t realistic. We readjusted, so it wasn't a big deal. But we would like to have more precise deadlines because missed deadlines could impact our users. Instead of agreeing to deadlines, they could push back to set a realistic schedule. Everything else is just excellent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you want a company that communicates openly, work with Moove IT. You’re choosing a great team. If you want a team that will excel, Moove It’s the way to go.

I was the lead of front-end design and was responsible for two product lines. One was a satellite specific solution and the other line was an IoT specific solution.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

We transitioned from another team to the Moove It team as we needed a partner to support our IoT specific solution such as building up the feature set. At the time, we had trouble with our provider in terms of the micromanagement that was necessary. We were lacking product oversight as well as the ability to give strict direction. The team delivered to the letter but didn't think about how the deliverables interacted with the product as a whole, which caused disruption. We couldn’t deliver on features the way the business wanted.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Moove It was instrumental in building out the whole frontend interface—a dashboard. Their team helped us create a platform to present the data that’s feed into the backend, which was developed separately. Predominately, they used an Angular framework for the design.

Essentially, their team built a web view into the data that all of the sensors synched with the system provide. It's an authentication portal that then had a dashboard layer plus additional map details that users could access to drill down to the actual location and pull data off of those individual IoT devices.

Moove It evaluated and tore apart our codebase, which was a task no one else had done. As new features were coming up, their team provided additional feedback based on how a product would disrupt the platform.

What is the team composition?

Originally, we worked with four teammates. Then, we scaled the engagement to include six people.

How did you come to work with Moove It?

When we transitioned to Moove It, the decision to hire their team was out of my realm. Compared to the other vendor, their team took more ownership of the product.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent more than $400,000 with Moove It.

What is the status of this engagement?

I worked with Moove It from January 2019 until the end of July.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

At the beginning of the year, we were basically behind on every single feature. The intent was to have the product launch-ready in March of 2019. After two years of working with our previous provider, we still weren’t ready. Within 7 months, Moove It had turned the product around, redesigned the platform twice and had it almost production-ready. 

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

Moove It was able to communicate constantly through Slack or Zoom. We had a strong project management scrum team. They were always in full attendance at scheduled meetings and were supportive. We had a design review with the UX team that Moove It was always available for. Their lead was able to answer questions, follow up, and available so that we could dig deeper into the project.

When we scaled up, their team become more involved from an actual development perspective. It was as if they were an extension of our team. The relationship wasn't just that we told them what to do and they did it. Rather, their team questioned our perspectives. For example, they would say: “I hear what you’re asking, but it doesn’t fit the way the product’s current architecture. We have these recommendations as an alternative.” Moove It was attuned to what was happening on the development side of the product.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Working with Moove It wasn't like dealing with any other consulting company. Their team held themselves to the same level of quality as our full-time employees. They took the product to be their own not just because they were being paid but because they were pushing themselves. Their team didn’t just take orders. They looked at ways that we could do things differently.

We had a mixed team including senior and junior resources. Their team facilitated helping to bring those junior resources in. They worked with our senior onsite folks to come up with code standards. Even though Angular is a structured language, there are still areas of opportunity where you can make sure that your business has its own engineering practices. Their team helped us develop and validate the practices. They helped us establish consistency across teams.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything that came up. We did have some code quality issues because we weren’t clear on how we wanted to test it.

I’m the CTO at a publicly traded company in the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

We’d acquired a company and wanted a consulting company to help us take over the operations of their software platform. In particular, we needed help with the loyalty app, which is built on a Heroku and Ruby on Rails stack. We didn’t have Heroku or Ruby expertise in-house.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Moove It provided their expertise and helped us take over operations. They also did additional development to implement new features.

Subsequently, we had another project for a large sandwich chain. Moove It had done so well with the integration work that we chose them as our development partner on this project. The project just launched, and we’ve been pleased with the results so far. Moove It helped build a mobile wallet, database, and API system.

They’ve built everything in AWS using common Amazon stacks like Aurora Relational Database Service (RDS), Elastic Container Service (ECS), and Elastic Load Balancer (ELB). They did quite a bit of automation in the pipeline as well.

What is the team composition?

I believe we’ve worked with at least six people. Typically, it’s a core team of about four members, and then others join when we need additional expertise in specific areas.

How did you come to work with Moove It?

We’ve found them to be very technically advanced and highly skilled. They were the most competent consulting organization that we interviewed. In the process of working with them, we still think that’s the case.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in November 2018, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were able to successfully deliver this project on time and budget for the client. It is a very high-volume transaction system; we see around 4,000 transactions a minute. We have additional work coming up that we intend to continue to use Moove It for.

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management on their end is fantastic. They’re easy to work with, and communication is excellent. We have very tight coordination, and they’re like an in-house team. We don’t view them as an external company, but rather a bunch of people that are working on the same team to deliver the product to the client.

We worked on an agile schedule. During the busiest period of development, we had standups every morning at 8:30. We started off the day communicating about projects. We had shared Jira systems and collaborated to create tickets, which we then worked on together. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their database, software development, and AWS skills are fantastic. They were a perfect match for the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Early on in the project, there was some turnover as people came on and off of the project. It’s hard to say whether that is a pro or a con, since you want to find the right people to fill those roles. It would be nice if we found the right people earlier without some of the misses, but again, it is great that we eventually found the right people. It is hard to say whether that is a negative.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

We find them to be competitively priced. The reason to go with Moove It is that they are good, not because they are cheap.

Currently, I own a real estate brokerage and development company, but they are helping me with an idea for a startup that would be an entirely new company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

They helped me design an MVP of my idea so that I could get it in front of venture capitalists and get seed money to build the startup.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The put together the basic prototype of the program, so they did everything from frontend development, to designing functionalities, all from my basic idea. I sat down with them and they said they could design it, but they also gave me a lot of tips on the expansion of the features. They really helped me flesh out the idea with what they thought people would be interested in as well.

Once I’ve started to receive funding from investors, I’d like to work with them on the full-scale development as well, and we’ve talked about how we would go about that. The product is a scheduling app in a very basic sense, so the plan is to make it work across desktop, iOS, and Android.

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact there was Rafael (Team Leader, Moove It), but whenever we had our meetings it was always the two of us plus Martin (Software Engineer, Moove It) and Guzman (Designer, Moove It). They had a team of developers operating in the background, but I didn’t interact directly with them.

How did you come to work with Moove It?

They were referred to me by somebody I knew through college who does this kind of work on the marketing side. He knew both parties and thought that we would be a good fit, so I called them and visited, and everything seemed to work out well.

I’ve invested in the $10,000 to $15,000 range so far.

I started working with them in May 2019 and we wrapped up the project in August.

They took my basic idea and really expanded on it, made it better, and then made it happen. They were able to accomplish everything very quickly, and I’m very pleased with what we’ve accomplished so far.

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

They were able to keep me really focused on specific parts of the app, which was very helpful for me because I have a lot of different ideas but little direction for how to get started on them.

We established a really good balance of input from them and deference to me that allowed us to get feedback all the time without getting off track.

They were very concise, and very down to earth when it came to establishing goals and sticking to them. Without that, it would have been a much longer and more expensive project, for sure.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The way they were able to take an idea all the way to an actual product was really impressive. In my mind, it seemed to be such a daunting prospect, and they tackled the challenge with ease.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing comes to my mind on what they could have done better.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would just suggest that you sit back and listen. Let them do their job. If you try to be too managerial and insist that they design exactly what you’re telling them to, it’s not going to work out as well or be as enjoyable as if you are willing to listen and trust them to do what’s best for the final product.

I'm the lead platform developer at Liongard, a tech startup based in Houston, Texas. We provide a product that helps manage service providers, allowing companies that manage IT for other businesses to automate some of the things they do manually.

What challenge were you trying to address with December Labs?

We engaged December Labs to provide additional development support as we build custom software solutions in order to achieve our goals in a more timely manner. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

December Labs provides development bandwidth support for our team, working on our SaaS platform to make improvements to its interface. They work on the backend and UI design, using technologies like Node.js, PostgreSQL, and React. They've significantly optimized our database, adding indexes on to foreign key columns and making some major navigation changes to the platform. 

What is the team composition? 

Our main point of contact is Marcelo (Co-founder and VP of Business Development, December Labs). We also work with a couple developers and designers on their team as well. 

How did you come to work with December Labs?

They share a coworking office space with us in downtown Houston, so we had crossed paths a few times and learned about what kinds of services they offered. Once we had a need for them, we reached out. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested between $75,000–$80,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working with them since January 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Measuring development throughput is famously hard, but we use tools like Jira that we attach story point and tickets to that they've significantly expanded. We've tripled our output from 20–25 to about 60-70 story points per week. We're very impressed by the number of ticket closures and the complexity of the work they're able to complete regularly. 

How did December Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They're fantastic to work with. It's difficult to find developers capable of communicating clearly and taking the time to listen to and  understand the reasons we do things a certain way. Everyone I've worked with on their team has gone over and beyond to understand our goals and been very thorough in their approach. We mostly use tools like Jira, Slack, and Bitbucket, which have all been hugely helpful in the process. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Everyone on their team has a lot of talent and knowledge in what they do–there are no weak links on their team. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really at this stage. We had a small hiccup in the beginning that turned out to be a blessing. We requested they build a Windows installer, but we didn't scope the project well and their resource was not an expert in that framework. They ended up not charging us for most of the work and we learned a lot from that experience, so it's been smooth sailing ever since. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communicate with their team regularly and clearly. We've had a lot of success using tools like Slack and Jira to accomplish that.

December Labs generally delivers work on time. They’re a very reliable team. Overall, our relationship has been great.

The December Labs team has been very responsive. As a startup, we sometimes have new insights and have to reprioritize. They’ve been accommodating and reliable 100% of the time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a good breadth of experience and can build an array of digital products. December Labs communicates well. I’m very happy to continue working with them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing specific comes to mind, but it would be nice to start negotiations on a long term contract.

I’m the founder of StarterHome, a company in the recovery industry. We use technology to solve problems associated with substance abuse disorders.

What challenge were you trying to address with Moove It?

I needed a provider to create an MVP that would validate whether or not a suspected problem existed. Then, I wanted them to design a platform to solve that problem.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They supported the creation of three MVPs for a mobile application on iOS and Android platforms.

They helped with ideation and design, creating wireframes to transform our idea into a mobile solution. Moove It also implemented user experience testing and helped me validate the product in the market. 

Their development work encompassed the creation of app functionalities such as GPS, search, chat, ratings and bookings features, and account login and registration.

What is the team composition?

Rafael (Team Leader, Moove It) has been phenomenal. I also worked with Mauricio (Native Mobile Developer, Moove It) and Jasmine (Senior Mobile Developer, Moove It). 

Conrado (CEO, Moove It) has a way of pulling things together. He has a lot of experience with building platforms, and he’s great at prioritizing tasks.

How did you come to work with Moove It?

We cold-called them, and they were willing to listen to my idea. I got to know the CEO and felt comfortable with the team. I could tell they viewed it as an important project rather than a small task. As a first-time entrepreneur, I wasn’t their ideal customer because they prefer clients who have their finances in place. However, they still wanted to work with me, and that made their services more attractive.

We’ve invested $70,000 with the team.

We started working together in October 2018, and the work is ongoing.

The way they drove this project forward was remarkable. They deliver high quality, efficient work without wasting any time. 

How did Moove It perform from a project management standpoint?

We were always on the same page, and everything was completed in a timely manner. They’re a responsive, professional group that lets me offer feedback around the clock. We collaborate via Slack, and the developers are always eager to communicate. Whenever we get bogged down in time-consuming details, Moove It helps us shift gears to stay on task. 

They’ve taken ownership of any issues (e.g. internal team changes, issues, or delayed tasks). They recognize the problem, discuss it with me, and make changes accordingly. Working with them is a pleasant process, even when we encounter challenges.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They know their limitations and what they’re capable of. I trusted their abilities because they didn’t claim to be an expert in everything. Whenever they weren’t sure how to do something, they’d research it and then pull other specialists for the task. 

Even though I was unfamiliar with a lot of the technical details, Moove It was very patient with me. In particular, Rafael excels at speaking with laymen about technical subjects. He understands my needs, addresses them, and then brings my ideas to life. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The biggest challenge was the distance between us, as I like to meet people in-person and some of the coders were from Uruguay. Since the remote work was unknown to me, it made me a little uncomfortable. However, I can’t blame them for that. If I had a choice to work with coders in the states, I’d have chosen that.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Potential clients should keep their internal executive leadership in the loop. In particular, the leaders should maintain an open line of communication with the coders. These upper-level employees will manage the project’s progress more efficiently than someone with less technical experience.
