For what projects/services did your company hire QSD BiH, and what were your goals?

We need a mobile app developing (native Android), and we need a skilled set of Engineers, due to the complexity of the project. We selected QSD as their engineers were experienced and clearly specialists in mobile development.

How did you select QSD BiH and what were the deciding factors?

We selected QSD purely down to projects they had previously completed, but also, how they came across in terms of their technical expertise.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

We gave a set of mock UX designs to QSD, and their developers took that and developed against our published API. The mobile app was written in Android / Java, and the project steps have included a number of milestones, as we develop the functionality over time.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I worked with 2 members of QSD staff, one Senior who managed the business side of things, and the Android Engineer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I was happy with the outcome of the project, the quality of the code is good, and the mobile app looks professional and works well.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.

I found QSD to be quite flexible in terms of how they would work with us. We are often very busy, and at times were not able to come straight back with changes or fixes on our API's. But they were happy to work at the pace we were able to. If there was any point, they were not able to continue due to waiting for a server side change, they would work on another project.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The skill levels of the Engineers. They have specialised in mobile development, and they know their strengths, so they stick in this area.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not really, we are a fairly difficult customer being a startup, and quite demanding in terms of timescales. But they are experienced and understood the development process. The team is also able to adapt at a short notice.

Our company provides a platform for realtime communication which exposed APIs and provided SDKs and Frameworks to achieve the realtime goals. I worked as the Product Manager and Engineering Manager for the SDK Team that not only researched and planned the projects but additionally executed their implementation.

For what projects/services did your company hire QSD BiH, and what were your goals?

QSD BiH was already in use by the company when I joined. During my time there, I used them to help implement SDKs and Frameworks for various programming languages and areas. This included implementation of new SDKs as well as ongoing feature additions and maintenance. Additionally they assisted with customer issues and resolutions as it pertained to SDKs and Frameworks.

How did you select QSD BiH and what were the deciding factors?

QSD BiH was previously selected prior to my joining the company. I believe they were selected through some sales account relationships.

Specifically for SDKs they assisted with the Java, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, PHP, C/C++ and JavaScript SDKs. Additionally they helped us implement and maintain the React and Redux frameworks for PubNub.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I worked with 4 different individuals from QSD BiH. A project manager, a Java/Kotlin engineer, a JavaScript engineer and a Python, Ruby, PHP engineer. There were maybe 1 additional individual that would come and go as project needs required that I had very little to no interaction with.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

By utilizing the help from QSD BiH, we were able to deliver multiple SDKs and Frameworks with sound quality simultaneously. Their deliverables were always very well tested and documented per our request.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.

I would have regular scheduled conversations with the project manager at QSD BiH via video conference (Google Meet) as well as regular Slack communications with him as well. We were always in sync with the timelines and deliverables and if they were still on track. The only time we got unexpected timeline shifts was due to an influx of customer support requests that took priority over the project implementation.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I found that working with QSD BiH was very easy including the engineers that they have on staff. Many times it felt very natural as if they were a part of the company. We were impressed by the breadth of experience and attention to detail they have while working on customer issues.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

My only suggestion was to have a means of communication with their engineers directly sooner (at the time of my joining I only had contact with 1 engineer).

I’m the manager of a web and mobile development company.

What challenge were you trying to address with QSD BiH?

We started to develop mobile apps using freelancers, but it became complicated to manage because we needed to address bug fixes. We needed a partner company to help with mobile app development long term.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provide Android development for us. When they first started, they took over two apps for us, and they also created two new apps from scratch for us. Now, they’re the only company we go to for these sorts of needs.

Usually, when we have them developing from scratch for us, we give them the guidelines and there’s a project manager who organizes the work among the team. Then, they get back to me with a timeline and development schedule.

What is the team composition?

We typically work with one developer from their team, but they add other resources as we need them. We also have a project manager.

How did you come to work with QSD BiH?

We found them on a freelancer platform.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent at least $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in February 2015, and our work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Based on our crash reports, we can see that all of the bug fixes they’ve done have been completed on time. They’re really proactive and we have a 99% crash-free rate.

How did QSD BiH perform from a project management standpoint?

Originally everything was scheduled through a project manager. Recently, we’ve started directly interfacing with the developer, which is good because it’s one step less for us. We use Google Drive to keep track of their work and every month we review the tasks that have been completed by them. We communicate if we need further clarity on anything.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They really analyze the situation before starting to work on each app. We haven’t had any issues yet. If something isn’t clear on their end, they always ask for clarity.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, nothing comes to mind.

I have worked with a handful of developers from their team. Three of which are backend and front end developers. Two who handle quality control and one who leads the team. Granted, each person I’ve worked with at QSD wears all the hats so things get done quite efficiently. I am sure there are more to the team from what I have listed, but these are the ones that stand out to me.

The team is devoted to their work, and it shows in the quality that is produced. They also feel like family and it is very easy to communicate with them.
