I am the CTO of a network marketing solutions firm. We help our clients manage their connections online and offline. I am our lead consultant regarding the technical aspects of our web portal.

Our goal was to make a web-based system that would allow network marketing professionals to chat with and set tasks for their downline members.

I heard about qodors from a friend who was partnering with them. I looked through their website and then decided to reach out.

We began the project through an online meeting with their project manager and technical team leader. Soon after this, we finalized our requirements, and qodors started to define the features that would make up the frontend and backend of the platform. They used Laravel and React.js for development and AWS for cloud hosting.

The team from qodors included a project manager, a designer, a developer, and a QA specialist.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

After deploying the system, I was able to signup 100 members within the first week. I am continuing to add more businesses to our portfolio through marketing this platform.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

qodors assigned us a dedicated project manager who answered our day-to-day questions and gave us detailed reports. I was also regularly in touch with their developer and designer to check progress. The communication process was very smooth.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed with their rapid development strategy and responsiveness to queries. They were also very willing to adapt to changes.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not that I can identify, I am delighted with their work. They’ve helped me to achieve my goal of having a successful business management platform.

I am the founder of a mobile food delivery application.

We hired qodors for developing Android and iOS applications that would allow users to view and order food through their smartphone.

What were your goals for this project?

Our primary goal was to increase our customer base through a mobile application that would be easy to update.

How did you select this vendor?

My team conducted an online search for app developers in our area, and we compiled a list of five based on the case studies on their websites. We contacted each firm and narrowed our list to two after receiving their initial pitches. We selected qodors based on the quality of their final proposal, their willingness to provide input on our requirements, and their ability to support the app following its launch.

Describe the project in detail.

We held several initial meetings to discuss our requirements and objectives. Within the first two weeks, we received mockups and three initial designs for the iOS and Android apps. After a few iterations and discussions with our marketing team, we finalized the design and provided feedback.

What was the team composition?

I communicated only with our project manager, but the team assigned to our project also consisted of two frontend and two backend developers, a designer, and a QA tester.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

They completed our application within three months, and we saw over 1,000 downloads and high star ratings in both app stores. The app’s design makes our services much more accessible, and we have received more orders from the application since its launch than from over-the-phone orders. We continue to hear positive feedback from users regarding the app’s usability and visual presentation.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The development team and our project manager communicated well through Slack and offered thorough updates. I was impressed by their timeliness and organization.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their technical knowledge was essential to a successful project. They taught us about the development process and were patient with us as we gained our footing. We have worked with other agencies, but this was a particularly collaborative and positive experience. I will certainly engage with this company again for any mobile app needs that we have in the future.

No, we were very satisfied with their work every step of the way. We received quality work and a beautiful product.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the president and CEO of a couple of different organizations, one of which is 7's Electronic Cigarettes. We manufacture, market and sell electronic cigarette devices and consumables. We also have Vapeix, a related technology R&D organization that develops and researches smart vapor technologies, including Internet of Things devices. We’re developing hardware, mobile apps and web platforms that connect together allowing subscriptions and auto-shipping of products. Vapeix is the primary project we’ve worked with qodors on.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with qodors?

Across our companies, we have many projects that require development since everything is tech-driven. We wanted to find some app developers. I have a 20-year background in IT and knew what it took to manage these projects, but we didn’t have the uniquely skilled labor so we reached out to qodors.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have worked with qodors across a few different projects including website development, mobile app development, design, and marketing. The main work is coding, including web and app development, some firmware and some circuitry — everything related to smart consumer products.

Ultimately, we worked on a Bluetooth vaporizer that tracks usage, automates inventory detection of consumables, and triggers automatic ordering and fulfillment. We tapped into the just in time delivery concept. Consumers have their product before they run out because the system is tracking it for them. There are also features like safety mechanisms, security and authentication, and customization in terms of power levels and LED colors.

What is the team dynamic?

We have a very large team, around 26 people in total. qodors was able to handle an enterprise-level application and project.

How did you come to work with qodors?

We found qodors online and honed in on them based on the skill sets they offered.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $200,000 or more.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started this particular project with qodors in December 2014. We may have had other work on a smaller scale before that. Everything is wrapped up for now.

qodors is now developing some smaller projects for my partner’s company.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have some apps live on the Google Play market. qodors has been very helpful in getting us to this point. Our goal, as an investment capital firm, was to get it beyond the prototype and create a tangible product that we could demonstrate to other prospects. This was ultimately what we were able to achieve. We hit that goal and are in the process of negotiating with new partners, scaling this even further. All the goals we had were met.

I don’t have tangible metrics, but, to put it into perspective, the same type of work we did with qodors would have easily cost us 3–4 times more with another company. We’ve had a lot of feedback from Fortune 100 companies, which were blown away by the fact that we achieved what we were able to achieve with the overall investment we made. The fact that we’ve been able to do this as efficiently as we have is an indicator of our success. There was little to zero waste in time, and qodors was mindful of this.

When I requested that things be done a certain way, they conformed to my requests, and there were many good comments on the code. It was clean, and they got rid of anything that was unnecessary. The output was structured and lightweight. qodors was able to do this to my liking, and I’m very picky when it comes to making code nice and neat. It’s one of the reasons we’ve enjoyed working with them — qodors definitely achieves what they say they’ll get done, and always deliver more than we expect.

We’ve had a lot of experience with many teams, and the one from qodors has been one of the best we’ve worked with, in terms of going through the process and figuring out what it was we wanted to do, and communicating with them, and really validating their skill sets across the team, helping us achieve what we wanted to accomplish. Everything worked out to our satisfaction. We gave them a shot, and I’m glad we did.

How did qodors perform from a project management standpoint?

The development was done mainly from scratch. We came to the table with direction and mockups. qodors provided everything from the code up. It was an ever-changing project; we had new ideas and ways to improve, so we kept adapting.

We started out small, testing the waters when we first engaged qodors a couple of years ago, but it became clear that they could easily take on more. We started out with mock-ups and discussions on how we could build the product, determining which systems would be best for the direction we were heading in, in order to keep it modular and scalable. qodors contributed a lot of advice and consultation to help us out. We started developing as many pieces as we could, mapping everything out and building single sign-ons, social cloud platforms, mobile apps, and APIs that connected everything together. We created a full package, a complete ecosystem.

We’ve used Podio and JIRA for issue tracking and management. We communicated multiple times a day, and because of this, we kept things moving along.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their principal knows how to pinpoint good talent, and has the most impressive list of coding experience between languages. With every project, especially larger and more advanced ones which rely on multiple technologies, you have to understand not just the basics, but also what the limitations are, in order to work around them and plan on it. One of the things qodors has going for it is the experienced individuals in the organization who can see some of the best ways of putting something together well in advance. This translates to our absence of any productivity loss. We never had to work backward at any point in time, after making a mistake.
