After an intensive first period of diagnostic, the advisor of Pyonnier proposed us several solutions. The most beneficial element for our company is the application of these solutions by the employees and in hand with Pyonnier. We received weekly update of situation and remediation progress, with on time reporting.They overachieved the responds in our needs.

I’m a department director of a national distributor and retailer of propane.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pyonnier Développement Inc.?

We required Pyonnier’s help to assess, evaluate, and ultimately build a business strategy around becoming a distributor and retailer of hydrogen across Canada.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pyonnier used their experience and ability to provide us with strategic guidance over a six-month period. Our ultimate goal was to confirm some of the assumptions we had made regarding the supply and demand for hydrogen in the market. Their scope included market research, as well as working with our marketing team to assist us with marketing materials that could help us educate our staff and some of our clients.

Additionally, Pyonnier gave us information on some of the trends occurring in Europe and provided us with awareness of some of the opportunities we should be considering in Canada regarding the early adoption of hydrogen use. Their team also educated us on how to properly educate our own staff with regard to hydrogen and the requirements for distributing it.

Moreover, Pyonnier provided us with guidance on the regulatory side of the hydrogen industry, as well as some insight into opportunities within the province of Quebec. Their recommendations included working closely with the Quebec government’s hydrogen strategy and some incentive programs that are currently available. Throughout the engagement, they also had a number of calls with our operations and sales teams to lead and facilitate internal workshops for us.

We spent between $50,000–$100,000 CAD (approximately $36,000–$73,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August 2022–February 2023.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

At the start of the contract period, we set 6–8 milestones, and Pyonnier ultimately completed them all. Thanks to them, we completed 100% of the training workshops that we requested them to participate in. However, we haven’t implemented our strategy yet, so we have no metrics to report on.

How did Pyonnier Développement Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Pyonnier was really good at managing the workflow. We met with them every two weeks, and they followed up every call with summary notes and any presentations they had provided on those calls. As for collaboration tools, we used phone, email, and Microsoft (MS) Teams. Additionally, we met a few times in person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Pyonnier’s research and communication skills were their biggest strengths.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing they could have improved on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you’re looking for good market research and help with internal communications and education around the hydrogen industry, work with Pyonnier. They’re very knowledgeable and will add value to your project.

Gazifère is a natural gas distribution company located in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. I’m the director of new initiatives within the company, so I took care of renewable gas and hydrogen projects.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pyonnier Développment Inc.?

We were trying to get a better understanding of the hydrogen market, so we hired Pyonnier to help us out.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pyonnier helped us know more about the hydrogen market by conducting a research process. They started the project with very little information, but they developed a good framework. The deliverables included monthly reports and an extensive final report.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two people from Pyonnier: the president and the VP of development.

I don’t recall how we found them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from July 2021–September 2022. Phase one of the project is completed, but we plan to use them again for the next phases.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Pyonnier provided us with excellent reporting, helping us understand the hydrogen market better.

How did Pyonnier Développment Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Pyonnier performed extremely well, and our relationship was very good throughout the project. They delivered their work on time and provided us with monthly updates on their work. Additionally, they constantly asked for feedback and provided us with very good feedback, as well. We communicated via Google Meet and had a few in-person meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Pyonnier offered well-structured communication, and they stuck to their plan. Still, their team always looked for ways to adapt their plan to our requests, demonstrating that they were open-minded and focused on their task.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any constructive feedback about Pyonnier’s work. They’re still a small business, so I only hope they grow their business and add more resources.

Pyonnier prepared a study report via PowerPoint, which we presented to the federal and provincial governments to get funding. We gave them a dossier to help them structure the project.

I knew Jerome as a professional. He had a good background in R&D and the energy sector.

Pyonnier delivered the project via PowerPoint in French and English. The purpose was to request funding from the government, and we attained that goal. The promoters have decided to move forward with the project. Overall, Pyonnier’s work resulted in a study that helped us generate investment.

They performed well and stayed within our budget. We typically communicated through Google Meet and phone calls.

Their expertise in R&D and the energy sector was impressive.

No, there weren’t any.

Consider Pyonnier if you have a technology project in the R&D stage or are in the energy sector. They’re one of the best players in the industry.
