I’m the senior business operations manager at a research and development company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Prototype?

We hired them to design a research and development community portal for different stakeholders within Abu Dhabi.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Prototype helped us develop the UI/UX design of the portal, including the wireframes. They created the designs using Figma. Initially, we worked together on several workshops to help them understand how we wanted the portal to look. From there, they suggested what the layout should look like and helped come up with different pages and sections within the platform. They also made some proposals as to what type of content or information should be placed.

We were mainly in touch with their project manager.

How did you come to work with Prototype?

We found them through an online search.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together on this project from March–August 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They met all milestones and submitted deliverables within the agreed timeframe. As for the quality of their outputs, we were satisfied with them — the final design looked really nice.

How did Prototype perform from a project management standpoint?

They were able to deliver everything on time. They were also very responsive. Communication was done mainly through email and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with their team’s design and development skills.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their initial data-gathering efforts and workshops could’ve been executed in a more structured manner.

Clearly define what you want to achieve.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am a Director in a government organization. I am the business owner of the government portal.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Prototype?

Our website was neglected and out-dated. We developed a strategy to update the technology platform, create a new portal team and develop a new publishing methodology all with the intent of improving user feedback, and attracting new partners. Prototype was hired to help us develop a web strategy and road map, design a modern portal and support on the build in our new cloud environment.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Vendors were given an outline of our strategy and goals. We intentionally did NOT give them a specific work statement. Prototype new how to ask questions and get to a true understanding of our goals. They demonstrated a solid tech strategy and was slightly under the nearest competitor.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

Develop a web portal strategy (front end, back end, SEO/analytics, content mgmt methodology). Define key customer journeys and sitemap. Develop a home page design and key pages. Develop wireframes and detailed designs. Build the website on the chosen CMS/DXP.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Because we had such a good discovery phase, building the wireframes was very smooth.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We kept the team small and focused. Communication and workflow is very good.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Prototype's discovery process is very good and sets the stage for a good flow in the project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

On the creative side, the designs were a very specific style. Maybe because in discovery we pointed in that direction. I still would have liked to see more diverse design options, by Prototype taking us outside the design ideas we pre-chose.
